To quote from the ReplayGain specification "Psychoacoustically coded audio, such as MP3, does not exist as a sequence of samples until it is decoded. Psychoacoustic coding of a heavily limited file can lead to sample values larger than digital full scale upon decoding. The coded files must be decoded using a fully compliant decoder that allows peak overflows (i.e. has headroom) and may result in peak amplitude values greater than 1.0." [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Replay Gain: how can Peak > 1? And how to create headroom for Gain>0
Hi - two questions: 1) I have used Foorbar2000 to calculate Replay Gains/Peaks and some REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_PEAK values are > 1.000. I am just wondering how this is possible? I also use EZ CD Audio Converter which doesn't produce any Peaks > 1.00. 2) I listen to a lot of classical music and a lot of tracks have REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN > 0.0, but if the Peak is close to 1.00 then these Gains have no effect. Is there a way to create say 6-12dB headroom so the +ve gain works? I would have thought that since CDs are 16bit, and the DACs on my SB3s are 24 bit this should be pretty easy without any loss of quality? This is not the file I am looking for. I would like the file whose name ends with "arm-linux.tgz". Oh, there's no modifier for specific tarballs. But you can use "src", then modify the resulting URL to include the architecture: http://www.mysqueezebox.com/update/?version=8.0&revision=1&geturl=1&os=src -> http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/8.0/lms/5eb63f9b5cd9e3b55f17c5e7946cd84951b95f4f/logitechmediaserver-8.0.0-1598791476.tgz -> http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/8.0/lms/5eb63f9b5cd9e3b55f17c5e7946cd84951b95f4f/logitechmediaserver-8.0.0-1598791476-arm-linux.tgz Just insert "-arm-linux" before the .tgz. -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
When I click on 'Logitech Media Server' in Settings I get the message: "Preferences Error: Could not load Logitech Media Server preference pane.". Have you tried re-installing LMS? The PrefPane should be 64-bit compatible. -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Sure - but can you find one that did not go through the formal Google certification process and is using open software? > Alexa would be a great alternative also. Similar situation - however, the "Skill" mechanism for Amazon Alexa is more flexible than that offered by Google and there is integration readily available to allow you to control your LMS by voice from Alexa and also use an Amazon Echo like a Squeezebox player. For example Look for MediaServer skill from PhilChillBill - or his Lite version that uses the built-in media player control functions in Alexa. Chromecast means access to protected audio & video streams. Googles controls that authorisation on behalf of the owners of the media and will not give license a 3rd party speaker capability to somebody they cannot litigate for breach. LMS etc is all opensource and community - nobody to litigate. > Alexa would be a great alternative also. https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?111443-Announce-LMS-lite-certified-Smart-Home-skill-for-Alexa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112864 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
I've been running LMS 7.7.5 on a MacMini for over three years and have just upgraded to MacOS Catalina. After granting Full Disk Access to Perl everything seems to be running OK with the exception of the preferences pane. When I click on 'Logitech Media Server' in Settings I get the message: "Preferences Error: Could not load Logitech Media Server preference pane.". If I use the "About this Mac" System Report then the preferences pane shows up as a 32/64 bit executable so presumably it's not the withdrawn 32 bit support that's the problem. (I've also granted Full Disk Access to /usr/bin/bashbug.) Any ideas ? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Squeezebox as chromecast audio
I think that the device certification model used by Google makes it very hard for an open software Chromecast player to exist so it is not really possible (at present at least) to make a Squeezebox device look like a Chromecast device. However, another route would be to use voice input to Google Home to control LMS. There are some documented ways to achieve that. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Squeezebox as chromecast audio
Hello, I have been trying Google home mini for the past weeks and found the voice assistant pretty neat to launch music: it would recognise a radio station name and would search and launch the radio station for example. I am running LMS with several squeezebox radios at home and would love to integrate those with google home. I see there is a plug-in the populates and Google home sound device as a squeezebox player, but I do not see any that would populate a squeezebox as a Google home player, which would be great. Is there any initiative for so? That would be great as I would love to keep my old squeezebox radios.
