To my ears and in my system, both Roon and Audirvana sound signicantly
better that way. Never tried it with LMS, but I prefer its interface to
those two, so want to see if it can be made to sound as good as they do.
If it can, I probably would switch most of my listening back to it.

I've upgraded my system to Windows 10, 2004 update and all outstanding
fixes via Windows update. I also uninstalled LMS, and then reinstalled
LMS 7.9.3 from mysqueezebox and am still getting errors. While the basic
local music playing function works, so much else doesn't.

In an attempt to resolve this I'm going to reinstall the latest Windows

Apart from the Prefs folder is there anything else I should back up?

Just for fun, I installed C-3po in LMS 7.9.2 on my Synology DS-218+ NAS

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] NETGEAR ReadyNAS LMS install problems

2020-09-03 Thread peterbent55

I've been trying to install LMS on my Netgear ReadyNAS R214 by following
the on-line instructions but without success. I've downloaded the
package for ReadyNAS which is a .bin file, but when trying to install it
to the NAS I receive the message that only a Debian (.deb) file can be
uploaded to the NAS. Where do I go from here? I've tried other .deb LMS
packages but none seem to install on the NAS.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How does Advanced Search handle multiple genre tags?

2020-09-03 Thread RobbH

After setting database.sql logging to Info, this is what I see.

I think these lines launchi the "text search" query:

Code:

Slim::Schema::Debug::query_start (22) SELECT COUNT( * ) FROM (SELECT me.id
FROM tracks me LEFT JOIN genre_track genreTracks ON genreTracks.track = me.id
WHERE ( ( genre IN ( SELECT me.id FROM genres me WHERE ( ( me.namesearch LIKE ?
OR me.namesearch LIKE ? ) ) ) AND me.audio = ? ) ) GROUP BY me.id) count_subq:
'%ROCK%', '%JAZZ%', '1'
  Slim::Schema::Debug::query_start (22) SELECT me.id, me.urlmd5, me.url,
me.content_type, me.title, me.titlesort, me.titlesearch, me.album,
me.primary_artist, me.tracknum, me.timestamp, me.added_time, me.updated_time,

me.audio = ? ) ) GROUP BY me.id ORDER BY me.disc, me.titlesort COLLATE en_US
LIMIT 50: '%ROCK%', '%JAZZ%', '1'

while these appear to start the "not in text search" query:

Code:

Slim::Schema::Debug::query_start (22) SELECT COUNT( * ) FROM (SELECT me.id
FROM tracks me LEFT JOIN genre_track genreTracks ON genreTracks.track = me.id
WHERE ( ( genre NOT IN ( SELECT me.id FROM genres me WHERE ( ( me.namesearch
LIKE ? OR me.namesearch LIKE ? ) ) ) AND me.audio = ? ) ) GROUP BY me.id)
count_subq: '%ROCK%', '%JAZZ%', '1'
  Slim::Schema::Debug::query_start (22) SELECT me.id, me.urlmd5, me.url,
me.content_type, me.title, me.titlesort, me.titlesearch, me.album,
me.primary_artist, me.tracknum, me.timestamp, me.added_time, me.updated_time,

me.year, me.secs, me.cover, me.cover_cached, me.vbr_scale, me.bitrate,

me.musicbrainz_id, me.lossless, me.lyrics, me.replay_gain, me.replay_peak,

genreTracks ON genreTracks.track = me.id WHERE ( ( genre NOT IN ( SELECT me.id
FROM genres me WHERE ( ( me.namesearch LIKE ? OR me.namesearch LIKE ? ) ) ) AND
me.audio = ? ) ) GROUP BY me.id ORDER BY me.disc, me.titlesort COLLATE en_US
LIMIT 50: '%ROCK%', '%JAZZ%', '1'

Does that shed any light on the situation? I said two years ago that I
intended to learn something about sql, but now I can demonstrate that it
hasn't happened.

As you certainly know, there is MUCH more in the log that I can provide,
if it would help.

For standards compliance and compatibility I'd be inclined to keep to
either -18 or -23LUFS. If you do decide to set your own target, tailored
to one particular playback device and scenario, this 10-year-old thread

Well, FWIW I exported all the replay gains and worked out what
percentage of my FLAC music collection (v roughly equally split between
rock, pop, classical, opera) would not have the full track RG applied by
LMS due to clipping:

14.9% (as it is)
4.52% - with 3dB more headroom
0.33% - with 6dB more headroom
0.18% - with 7dB more headroom

So basically another 6dB headroom would capture pretty much everything,
and I would have thought that is within the SB3's 24bit DAC and noise
floor of a decent system.

Would be great if LMS had a pre-gain feature of some sort to help with
this. But I guess I can either use 'loudgain'
(https://github.com/Moonbase59/loudgain) as suggested by MainSqueeze, or
just subtract 6.00 from all the existing RGs which presumably amounts to
the same thing and my CPU will thank me!

In that case you should uncheck the "Music" checkbox to tell LMS not to

what I've read a lot of people put the cache, database and music on a
separate drive from the system microSD card.

Main system - Rock Solid with LMS 7.9.3 Official on WHS 2011 - 2 Duets
and Squeeseslave
Cabin system - Rock solid with LMS 7.9.3 Official on Win10 Pro - 1 RPi 3
Model B/Hifiberry DAC+ Pro/PiCorePlayer and Squeezeslave
Squeezebox Boom - "At Large" player around both home and cabin
Headphones and car - Android phone/Bluetooth w/full library on MicroSD
card - PowerAmp music player app (similar to Material Skin)

Thank you, Michael. I will try that and report back.

LMS 8 nightly; 3 Squeezelite players connected by powerline ethernet; 5
wireless players connected via Airplay Bridge; 1 SqueezeAmp player
no high-end or esoteric audio gear
1 Squeezebox Radio (upgraded UE Smart Radio) now mostly retired

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Where are the Scan Results stored

2020-09-03 Thread gusi

Does anyone know where the results of a library scan are stored? Is it
in the cache folder?

I just switched to the piCorePlayer platform. In the docco I read that
the piCorePlayer OS is all in RAM and only written to the SD disk with
the back up command.

That would mean that we'd need to backup after every scan if we want to
save the result over a reboot?

As none of my music is tagged and I only navigate by folder it is a bit
academic but still nice to know.

didn't really find anything useful. I would expect if the clipping
prevention was turned on and the peak was 1.0 then the Album gain would
be reduced to 0.0. In practical terms it doesn't really matter if
clipping prevention in Foobar works or not as LMS takes care of clipping
prevention. A lot of albums where I see positive Album gains are live
recordings where the audience reaction in between tracks can be louder
than the music.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Which LMS works on ARM® Cortex-A53 quad-core CPU

2020-09-03 Thread Michael Herger

I just bought a QNAP TS-128A which has a ARMŽ Cortex-A53 quad-core CPU.
Which Logitech Media Server works on this?

The arm package should work. The CPU seems to be of the same
architecture as the Raspberry Pi's.

True. Luckily, I don't have any classical music that's mastered like
that. The Schoenberg "track" that I referred to in my earlier post, for
example, has an RG peak -- if that's the word -- of 0.039185, which
without RG is very unlikely to clip. (I quite like the idea of asking
'Iggy Pop to remaster'
Schoenberg and Webern, though. Anton, Anton, I can tell / Your pretty
face is going to hell...)

I don't use Foobar myself, so I really don't know, I'm afraid. That
might be a question for 'hydrogenaudio'
(https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?board=28.0), where I think much of the
discussion around Foobar takes place.

You could enable logging for database.sql to see what SQL request is
being generated.
