Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Old Music Centres

2021-03-14 Thread NE5

Update. The lead from the tablet into the AIWA Ronnie showed me works
fine.

I have a loan of the Sony speakers, and have set it up independently of
the pi or squeezebox. I am keeping my eye out for the original speakers,
my ears arent what they were but this is the only way to judge the sound
as I remember it.

I'm a bit reluctant to plug my KEF speakers straight into the AIWA in
case it damages them, this would also be the case if I repkace my
amplifier with the AIWA in the pi squeezebox setup which was the whole
idea.

So I'm going to read and absorb the option yiure all gave me for now, as
I'm not sure what to do next.

One thing is that putting the tablet straight into the AIWA in the spare
room as I've done for the moment, is I cant remote thevtablet controls
unless I get an extension lead and it worked.

I have most of my music collection on a flash drive in my tablet. Does
this mean I can plug that from my tablet into the AIWA and play it like
a flash drive ?? Astounding technology which I would consider doing
in the spare room without a doubt.

Yes Paul, see my previous post for setup which works perfectly although
I never touch the LMS or setup in case I mess it up :D I use my desktop
and have LMS installed on it, I can also use my phone or tablet to
control the SB, although I don't do it often. Because usually I have my
desktop on all day and just leave it, most of the time.

yes that is right, as in currently and proposed. The only thing to add
is my pi is in the spare room with my modem and desktop, connected via
this
https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/networking/powerline/bt-broadband-extender-flex-600-powerline-adapter-kit-twin-pack-10142651-pdt.html
to my squeezebox, amp and speakers in the other room.

Ideally, it would be a straight swap amp for music centre. I will cross
the problem of where to place it etc later, if it works and if I like it
better.

But I am open to alternative ideas such as utilising the pi directly
nearer the squeezebox or straight into the music centre if it sounds
better or is less complicated.

If for some reason I still prefer my current set up, I will buy a small
set of speakers and put the music centre somewhere else, I have kept a
box of LP's for nostalgia etc, classic ones. I will definitely not be
letting this music centre go again.

So I also need to think about using my current KEFQ300 speakers with the
music centre if I put into permanently into the system, they will be too
powerful but I think unless I drive them too much they will be fine
(unlikely in the house).

But as you say Ronnie, first things first, I need to get them and make
sure it all works properly. However it can be done which is all I wanted
to know, its on the way, I wish I had taken it back years ago.

I'm not sure about this mate, I just want to replace my amp with the
music centre, I would box the amp up and not use it anymore.

I wouldn't need a second squeezebox, but I've no problem at all with
buying new cables or a controlling device if thats what it needs

Sorry to everybody but I'm also reading up about DAC etc as you are all
explaining this, it's an area I've not been down before.

Ronnie this is interesting, you know my setup, as I've just outlined
above, if you aren't sure.

Do you mean I can move the pi into the front room, and connect it
directly to the squeezebox and use a tablet as a controller? I would buy
a tablet or device to leave this permanent connection, with the leads
you mention??

This is a lot of info to get my head around, thanks to everybody I'll
try and focus on a bit at a time.

Do you mean here lads, I can move my pi (or buy another) nearer to the
AIWA and connect it straight into the AIWA (without the squeezebox,) ?

Or from the pi and flash drive, into the squeezebox, then into the music
centre instead of the amplifier.

This is my current setup, only with the pi in the same room as my
desktop, connected to the squeezebox in the next room by a plugged in BT
device.

The pi is connected to my desktop and modem so I can view LMS etc, I
need the modem on but not the desktop.

In conjunction with the new thread I started as i now have the machine
which is on the way, as Ronnie says from looking at the manual, here is
also photographs of the back.

I also need to consider new speakers too, if I get some, as I understand
this music centre is a bit sensitive, it's nowhere near as powerful as
my KEF speakers can deal with, but I ran JBL L100s with it for years and
never needed to turn the volume up so they were fine.

Thanks to everybody for the info. I didn't win the music centre, to be
honest, because there was no guarantee it was working I put a ceiling on
it and missed out by the massive sum of £1

But, now I know it will connect and can be made operational, I will keep

Other points are, this music centre is old analogue, so I suppose what
I'm asking is will a SB work because of being digital, even with the
raspberry pi ?

And of course, it says in the advert that it is untested so they can't
guarantee it works, but I think I would take a punt on that providing it
doesn't cost too much, and it might unsettle my thoughts on my main hifi
system, Rotel amp, Kef speakers !

Hi Mate, thanks for the reply. Its the old 2 pin type speaker and phono
connection, where 1 pin was bigger than the other, before they used the
banana plug phono types.

I don't know what to do about speakers, but I would cross that bridge

the music is on my PC which is in the spare bedroom, my router is also
next to the computer, but my hifi and speakers are in the living room. I
live in a flat, so the rooms are next to each other, there is no stairs.

I bought a BT Broadband Extender Flex 600 kit to hard wire the PC and
squeezebox and it was better than wifi. I have reset the 2 plugs of this
kit, and they both seem to be working perfectly as normal.

I tried to connect the PC and SB wirelessly but it went through the
connection procedure and failed to connect, exactly the same as using
the hard wire.
