Update. The lead from the tablet into the AIWA Ronnie showed me works fine.
I have a loan of the Sony speakers, and have set it up independently of the pi or squeezebox. I am keeping my eye out for the original speakers, my ears arent what they were but this is the only way to judge the sound as I remember it. I'm a bit reluctant to plug my KEF speakers straight into the AIWA in case it damages them, this would also be the case if I repkace my amplifier with the AIWA in the pi squeezebox setup which was the whole idea. So I'm going to read and absorb the option yiure all gave me for now, as I'm not sure what to do next.
