Thank you Michael for your assistance, once again. Music is an
important part of my world, Music IP and LMS have been a very
meaningful part of my life. Thanks for all you do.

Uninstalling Lazy Search had no effect. The good news is that I
uninstalled a number of other older plugins all at once and my behavior
with scans seems to have resolved. I will monitor it in the coming
days.

Still remaining is the issue when I select "restart" while uninstalling
plugins the server only shuts down, it does not restart (obviously not a
big deal and of no concern for me).

iPeng?? Well... seriously yes! (should I be embarrassed :-). "iPad
therefore iPeng" (sometimes iPhone around a bit too) I use my IOS
devices as controllers more than 95% of the time. If you could suggest
an alternative for IOS 13 I would gladly compare?

A separate issue: Is there a workaround to use spotty without a premium
membership? The podcast content I get from them does not require
premium membership. It would be nice to listen via LMS to those
podcasts I can only get with spotty, but it's not a big deal.

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.2 problems since install yesterday

2020-03-16 Thread rivrwing

A number of issues have resolved since installing 7.9.3 on top of
7.9.2. One thing that has not resolved is that each time the server
starts it still initiates a scan that hangs at "1. discovering files and
directories". These occurrences make no scan log entry. Aborting the
scan and then initiating a scan myself works normally and a scan log
entry is created. I can live with this if I must. Any suggestions to
address this are welcome. The scan log shows nothing, but the server
log following 7.9.3 install is attached.

Thanks!

Thank You Michael,

Sorry I was not fully clear on two points:

- Yes I installed 7.9.2 on top of 7.7.5.
- Yes the noted plugins were actively installed by me.

I was previously unaware of a version 7.9.3. I have now located
version 7.9.3-1582867832 on the nightly page and I will install it and
let you know how it goes.

Thanks again!

It's clear now that media rescans are also initiating on their own at
seemingly random times, not only when the server starts. The ones I
have witnessed also seem to hang until i select "abort".

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.2 problems since install yesterday

2020-03-15 Thread rivrwing

Hello and thanks to Michael and everyone for keeping things alive here.
I just made a leap from LMS 7.7.5 to 7.9.2. I did not wish to change a
stable configuration but while recently catching up on the forums here I
saw many concerns of mine would be addressed by the latest stable build.
Unfortunately my initial excitement has been followed by a number of
issues. Below are some details with logs attached, I am grateful for
any help and recommendations. I may not have the depth of understanding
that may be required, but I follow directions well, thanks in advance:

- Windows 10 Pro on Dell Latitude Laptop. I have manual windows updates
configured and have made no recent changes.
- Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.2 - 1578996832
- Music IP integration is the best!
- IPeng is running on all my devices, but I use the html interface
whenever at my desk.
- No recent software updates or additions have been made to the system.
A fully functioning environment changed upon the install of LMS 7.9.2 24
hours ago.

After installing 7.9.2 over 7.7.5:

- I am experiencing random server shut downs without a clear pattern.
Sometimes it is minutes apart, sometimes hours apart.

- Less frequently, in fact only twice, the server freezes while showing
it is running and a force close of LMS is required to restart the server
(system reboot may have resolved this).

- One time the server restarted itself after a random shut down.

- A scan for new and changed music initiates when server starts without
any prompting. This has been consistent since 7.9.2 install without
exception (see next point).

- No progress is indicated in the above unprompted scan and the view is
hung in "1. discovering files and directories" with no progress
visible.

- I added new music to my Music IP library to see what effect it might
have on scan behavoir. Despite LMS scans appearing hung and my aborting
them, at some point it showed in LMS.

- Selecting the prompt to "restart" server when changing plugin settings
does not restart, it only stops the server. Manual start is then
required.

- I've noticed one time that all of "my apps" disappeared but then
reappeared with a later restart for unknown reason.

- TuneIn radio works even if server is not running. This seems odd, but
using TuneIn is a recent activity for me so perhaps this is normal.

- The following "new" plugins were installed:  CD Player: DSD Player;
Group Players; Music and Artist Information; Music Information Screen;
Radio Paradise.

- Regards the above Music and Artist Info plugin, after seeing some
unwanted scanning and downloading behavior i deselected all "importer
settings".

- Following the problems I also installed the prevent system standby
plugin, configured to prohibit standby.

- I installed and subsequently uninstalled other plugins of interest
that were not essential and uninstalled a number of older unused ones in
trying to clean up things a bit.

- This morning I installed 7.9.2 over the top of itself. The server
seemed to start up much more quickly after this, but I've observed no
change in random shut downs or scanning on start (which are my 2 biggest
issues as a user).

I've considered an uninstall while keeping my old preferences, or
possibly a full uninstall then reinstall, but perhaps smarter minds than
me will see something obvious and simple to address in the logs
attached. Also perhaps my issues will be useful in developing LMS 8.0.

Full scanner log is attached, it seems strangely brief and shows only a
small window of time yesterday despite two complete "clear and rescan
everything" and numerous unprompted scans for "new and changed" since
installing 7.9.2.

Server log is attached in two parts. First "beginning with old 7.7.5
and change to 7.9.2" which includes the period of changeover to 7.9.2 in
the late morning 03 14 2020. Second is "server log most recent" which
continues where the first log ends and goes up to right now on 03 15
2020.

I hope I've done all I should before posting this.

Thanks again everyone.

Thank you for your time helping me on this issue Michael. This is my
final observation for this morning. After identifying a new port access
issue in LMS I disabled some other conflicting software and I have
apparently completed a successful LMS scan with the settings you
suggested in your last comment. I of now also have MIP mix
functionality in the LMS interface. Assuming that this configuration
continues to function as it just did there is only one final remaining
issue that I am unsure how to address.

Both Mip and LMS are pointed to the same music folder. Mip shows a
library of 78,042 songs total (only 72, 084 with "ready" status). LMS
shows a library of 77,897 songs total. I am unsure how to reconcile
these differences and compare libraries. If I could determine the
missing tracks perhaps I would find clues to this final issue. Any
insight appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

Tried your suggestion and the scan "terminated unexpectedly" once again,
however my new music does now appear in my library. I don't know a way
to compare the MIP library database contents to what LMS has now scanned
in as my music library (what was missed/skipped/omitted when the scan
terminated? Also, now none of my MIP mixable tracks show as such in
LMS. In other words there is no longer any way to create mixes with MIP
in LMS as the feature/function does not appear. Latest log:

Really? Very interesting. I can no longer remember the reasons why I
settled on the preferences I selected. If the functionality at the
interfaces I access my music from (LMS, MIP, IPENG) are unchanged this
sounds like a great option... Thank you.

My audio files live on my NAS. These files are analyzed by MIP with
tags archived into the file' meta data by MIP. MIP creates its library
database from the folder containing these audio files on my NAS. LMS is
configured with media library and media library folder fields blank and
the MIP plugin enabled. MIP is configured for LMS to import music data
from MIP. I think that covers it. This has been my configuration for
possibly 10 years on 2-3 machines with good full function (despite
troubleshooting required along the way as is the case right now).

My scan errors began when I last added new music files to my NAS and MIP
library. When LMS scan enabled in order to "rescan for new music" it
failed. It continued to fail until I changed the MIP configuration from
importing music data to importing only mixable status. I stopped
receiving scan termination notices and it appeared the scan may have
completed successfully but none of the new music files showed up in my
LMS Library. It is as if it will not recognize the newly built MIP
library database? I did back out all of the new music files and rebuilt
the MIP library without them, attempted LMS scans, then reinserted the
new files and reentered them into the MIP library with no change in the
LMS scan early terminations when configured to scan music data, and/or
no appearance of the new music files when configured to scan mixable
stats only. I hope that's clear.

New ideas welcome! Otherwise I will uninstall MIP when I find time then
reinstall and see how LMS scan behaves. If that's a fail then perhaps
remove and reinstall LMS?

Thanks again for any and all help!

The only difference in behavior is that I no longer get a scan
terminated message, so it appears to have completed successfully, but it
does not include any new music added. Maybe time to uninstall and
reinstall MIP, then LMS if no change. Other suggestions appreciated.

]No, the big difference is that MIP would not be used to manage metadata

other than the mixable status. In your current setup LMS reads all the
track information from MIP and does import it into the library. This
theoretically would allow you to have your music collection without
defining a music folder. Therefore the scan is much quicker - and less
prone to crashes due to some outdated, hardly used code...

Thank you again!

I will explore that later when I am returned home. I have always selected
the option to scan all music data (slower). I believed I needed to do so
to access all data/art/metadata within LMS or the Ipeng controller
interface that I use. Would I lose access to any of that
data/art/metadata etc by scanning only mixable status?

LMS initiated another failed scan earlier, without my prompting. I saved
the log file that I will share here because it looks different than all

If only there were a MIP substitute! I will try that solution when I
have a moment. Thanks for the assist.

Question though: Will this exclude all tracks I have selected as "not
enabled" in MIP from my LMS library? No issue of course if they are
excluded form MIP mixes, but if they are dropped from the library that's
problematic for me. there are numerous 24bit files I excluded form mip
mixing in this manner during earlier times when MIP was not able to
successfully scan these files (the final version of MIP seems to handle
them fine). Tricky to go back into all the subfolders and dig them out.
The manner in which my NAS is configured would require I singly move,
scan and reinsert them all. No fun, not realistic.

Thanks again

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Scan terminated unexpectedly assit please, log file attached

2018-03-28 Thread rivrwing

Thank you for your help again. I am unsure I am getting the details you
wish but I have selected what seem like all the relevant logs and set
them to debug. I have run 4 attempted scans which show the same audio
file as the final entry:

[18-03-28 20:54:56.6631] Slim::Plugin::MusicMagic::Importer::processSong
(449) Exporting song: K:\Music\- - Dues - 04 - People.flac.

This file name seems corrupted. I cannot identify anything with the
both key words "people" & "dues" anywhere in my library and all tracks
containing either words has been in my library a long time. In fact the
first thing I tried when the scans began failing was removing new music
added form both my NAS and MusicIP library. The scans failed with only
files that had previously been successfully scanned into the library.

Perhaps you will see another indicator of what the issue amy be. Again
thank you! The latest log (note blank lines are where numerous other
tracks were edited out by me for brevity of file size):

Thanks for the suggestion Paul. The scan settings are now set to warn,
but I am unsure how to increase the logging level as you suggest?

An interesting observation. When a media scan is initiated, instead of
initiating the process at "step 1", "step 3" of the process shows
briefly (importing from music ip) with a clock saying it has been
running for over 400,000 hours? Odd. I've had no issues with scanning
all along so unsure this is signifigant. In any case that "step 1"
appears only briefly then "step 1" appears (directory scan) and his is
where the d=scan fails. So form scan initiating to "termionated
unexpectedly" less than one minute elapses, with that brief appearance
of step 3 before step 1. Mylatest log:

"Media scan terminated unexpectedly" error for days now. Not sure what
the log is pointing to.

I use Music IP as my library. The configuration has been unchanged for
years and has been functioning better than ever for the past 18 months
on a new windows 10 machine.

Assistance appreciated! Thank you !

After doing some troubleshooting I believe the ultimate problem is that
LMS is not connecting to the music ip port (localserver:10002).
Firewall configurations seem ok. Not sure where to go with this. Any
advice welcome...

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS not finding music files. Help!

2017-02-02 Thread rivrwing

thank for the comments all...

I'm not running either lms or mip as a service, and I do run mip before
starting lms. I've used the arrangement before and the only new
variable here is my new windows 10 machine. I'll state again that it
worked just fine for one day the stopped. As you can see from the above
log file I do get a full scan of the mip library successfully, but it
just does not see the file in the location its supposed to be found.

I have a new WD PR4100 NAS sitting in a box waiting to be set up and I
wonder if I load LMS and MIP on that could things work better? I've not
loaded nor ran software on a NAS before.

Still need to experiment with pointing lms to different libraries and
see how that works.

To answer the question about using mip library with lms its about
adjusting the mip settings in the settings interface under the "plugins"
tab and then pointing lms to no other library in lms basic/general
settings.

That device is mapped with a fixed drive letter and "everybody" has
"full permission" so I think I've got that covered. I am suspicious it's
something about seeing that drive, but other applications interact with
it just fine.

I think your right to look at mip and evaluate it specifically. Ill
soon try both what you suggest as well as creating other mip libraries
in various locations and see how that behaves too.

Thanks.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS not finding music files. Help!

2017-02-01 Thread rivrwing

Hitting big frustration, time suck and sadness not being able to play my
music library and I'm hoping someone can assist me please!

I installed LMS on my new windows 10 machine using Music ip library as
source of music data. I tried very hard to match all settings the same
as old windows 7 machine. Worked great and much joy for one day then
LMS stopped playing music! Scanner scans musicip library but does not
find the files the musicip library points to on my NAS, reporting them
as "file missing". "Media scan details" report shows the correct number
of music files scanned corresponding to musicip library, it just doesn't
find them. Files are on NAS with assigned drive letter K and permission
settings same as old machine. Squeezebox exe files all configured with
same permissions as old machine as well. I performed one full uninstall
of LMS and reinstalled with same problem/behavior afterwards. I've
cleared cache and library numerous times and rescanned with no luck.
Below are some portions of scan log.I'm believing I covered all my
bases, maybe I missed something and someone can help me focus in? I'm
not a tech pro, I've learned allot from trying to keep LMS and Musicip
running over the years but there's plenty I could be missing here. I
would be incredibly grateful for any assist!!
