I got it sorted our and it's working now. The zettaly is a good device
but shortcomings are the Android 4.4 os and also the speakers are okay
without standing out.

I have the Zettaly and a Moto G XT1039 and I have installed both SB
player and Squeeze Ctrl on both devices. Neither of which work as of
late. But: I have a Surface 2 with the Soundicity app installed. That
works perfectly.

Well Squeeze Ctrl does work without the player. It is just a remote
then. It must have sth to do with the step from DSM 5.2 to 6.0 on my
NAS. But why does Soundicity keep working then?

This is not the issue. You will still have to connect to a server. As I
said I can't for some reason and this is the point of my last post.

I can confirm that it does.

I've just bought a Zettaly and use the above player and Orange Squeeze
as the controller - works very well.

Thanks but SB player needs a server as well and this server is not being
detected by the Zettaly or Squeeze Ctrl respectively.

You want to make the Zettaly device act as a Squeezebox?
If you've installed SqueezCtrl, you may as well by the matching player,
can't guarantee it works with the Zettaly device though.

O2 juggler together with Squeezeplay OS is a good and very cheap

Hi,
I you need a Display, get the zettaly, if not I suggest a NuPro100 with
raspi /picore Player. It's a little more expensive but will Sound a lot
better. The NuPro100 has a USB dac built in, so you don't need a
hifiberry. I don't see, that a chromecast is a good solution in the case
you buy new Equipment. I'd rather go with proven solutions.

Google cast is probably the cheapest you can get, but AFAIK it will not
operate unless it has access to the internet.
All others mentioned above are local network devices.

+1 on the Radio. Here's another option:

Runs Android so just install Squeeze Player app. Search the forum and
you should find some other information about it.

I really would go with the squeezebox radio. I bought a used one a week
ago for 100€ and i couldn't be more happy with it.
I also searched for an alternative but having a display and controls on
the device is not easily achivable with 3rd party hardware.
Also this thing sounds amazing so if you can get one in good condition
go for it!

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Alternatives for Squeezebox Radio

2016-03-12 Thread streifenleopard

Hi,
I'd like to have a streaming device in my kitchen most preferably with
good speakers built in, mainly to listen to music from my NAS/LMS 7.9.
I assume that some years ago i would have got the Squeezebox Radio for
this purpose, which should have interacted flawlessly with LMS (Am I
right?)
However, things are not so easy nowadays. I do not really want to spend
Eur 125 for a used Squeezebox Radio.
Are their any alternatives?
I already have a RPI connected to my amp in my living room. But i don't
want to enter a process of building a device incl. amp and speakers. For
the kitchen I'd prefer sth out of the box.
