Just by way of comparison: 1300 albums: 23k tracks (mostly flacs)
residing on a local SSD -- macOS. Clear & Rescan takes about 2min 30
secs, including searching for Artist pictures. The computer is a 2010
Mac Mini.

It's a completely "stock" install of LMS, meaning I haven't tweaked the
memory parameter yet ;)

Please let us know about the results after upping the memory to the max.
What level is it now? "High" or "normal"?

A lot of the delay is I/O, so local libraries on SSD or at least HDD
well and truly beats networked libraries. If it bothers you move the
archive; put some storage on your LMS box and provide it a local copy of
your media.

-Only download pictures for main artists, but not all contributors
(composers, conductors etc.-
I just tried enabling the -Find artwork online during library scan-
option and it increased the scan time by 3-4 times. This is needless,
since all my files have artwork. The artist pictures shown in iPeng
must be downloaded without this enabled, since they appear in my Artist
and Album Artist menu in iPeng.

Well, you trade scan time performance against run time performance.
The scan will be faster but then the plugin will download the images
when you need them.

Plus: if you store the images in a folder for future use, the plugin
would use them without checking online.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How to reduce scanning time

2017-03-01 Thread dasmueller

I am never bothered by scans. In the Control Panel go to Advanced
Settings. When the screen opens up click on the Advanced Button. Then
Re-scan Music Library and set it to do the type of scan you want when
you know you will not be listening. I run a look for new and changed
media files scan daily at 2 AM while sleeping. No problem. If you add
new music you want to listen to right away a look for new and changed
media files scan only takes a few minutes.

I am using 7.9.0. w 37k files.

Even w earlier versions of LMS the look for new and changed is quick.

Try 7.9.1 it is a bit faster .

what kind of scan ? you have three types .

"Scan for new and changed"

"Rescan everything"

"only rescan playlists"

Plan ahead , add music as you go but start the scan whenever you not
listening , while your busy with something else

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How to reduce scanning time

2017-03-01 Thread immortalaxay

Hi,

I am having ~26,000 songs on my NAS. I have mounted this on my Ubuntu PC
on which LMS server 7.8.1 is running. Whenever LMS rescan everything, it
takes 45-60 min to scan all this songs.
How can I speed up the scanning? I just want to listen my saved
playlists. So, It will be okay for me if there is no meta information or
as minimum as possible for songs.

Discovering files/directories: /nas/Audiosongs (26106 of 26106)
Complete 00:01:06
Scanning new music files: /nas/Audiosongs (26105 of 26105) Complete
00:40:14
Discovering playlists: /nas/playlist (16 of 16) Complete 00:00:01
Scanning new playlists: /nas/playlist (14 of 14) Complete 00:00:25
Pre-caching Artwork (1799 of 1799) Complete 00:06:20
The server has finished scanning your media library.
Total Time: 00:48:06 (Wednesday, March 1, 2017 / 2:24 PM)
