Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Old computers and LMS

2021-01-03 Thread gordonb3

Seems good to me. Guess the issue must be with the libraries being built
on a system that appears buggy to say the least as it created libraries
for two different architectures.

It's not too big an issue to build them yourself though. To start, you
need Debian build-essentials of course. Get the source files by cloning
https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver-vendor and make sure to read the
README in the slimserver-vendor/CPAN folder. It should suffice to run
the buildme.sh script which will build a shipload of stuff, some of
which likely to be redundant on a live system, but that shouldn't hurt
too much on a pentium class processor.

1) Getting rid of everything in CPAN/arch
Code:

The CPAN buildme.sh script creates both i386-linux-thread-multi-64int
and i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi-64int for my custom perl 5.28 and as
well as the os installed 5.14 perl.

I've been running LMS with both folders forever. I'm happy to clean up
the image, however, it's likely better to just rebuild the CPAN modules
on the old computer.

I can help you with that if you like.

According to ralphy, he compiled the libs for 5.28.1, which is exactly
the version of perl I use on my system.

It still is what the error states. Maybe you have multiple versions of
these loadable libraries in various paths and it finds the other one
first.

The archive Ralphy provided imho is invalid. We'll need him to clean it
up, as it provides two copies of the files in two different folders.

I'd start by getting rid of everything in CPAN/arch as none of it is
good for your platform, OS, and Perl version. Then copy the files you
got from Ralphy into that subdir and run Squeezeboxserver normally.

Additional note: the x86 system I use as a crossdev platform for arm32
reports as `i686-linux-thread-multi`. Can't verify as it runs Perl 5.30,
but I would expect similar errors as you are seeing with libraries
compiled for either `i386-linux-thread-multi-64int` or
`i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi-64int`

Here are the 'perl modules'
and you might need 'these openssl library files'

You can stickoops...extract the perl modules tar file in
CPAN/arch/5.28 off the toplevel of where lms is installed.

Mine is in /opt/logitechmediaserver so the full path is
/opt/logitechmediaserver/CPAN/arch/5.28
I'm not sure where the release packages install lms, I only run lms from
git.

If SSLeay.so fails to load then you'll need to extract the openssl-perl
tar file in /usr/local/lib using sudo tar -xf openssl-perl-5.28.tar.gz
but try starting lms without extract it first.

I would have thought that copy-pasting a command would be simpler than
editing a file... Guess I was wrong.

There's no harm in running the main script directly from command line
BTW. Even if the script doesn't fail the only thing that might happen is
that it creates a new prefs file in a different location (as directed by
either the defaults or overridden in Custom.pm) and/or starts a scan to
create new cache files.

Either way, as Michael stated, you will need to build the mentioned
(arch dependent) modules yourself, either through CPAN or whatever
package manager your system provides.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Old computers and LMS

2020-12-30 Thread Roland0

I'd advise against running squeezeserver directly from the command line
(unless you pass it all the parameters and run it as the same user the
startup script does).
A simpler method to write all it's output to a file is to edit
squeezeboxserver_safe (usually found in /usr/sbin) and change 'line 41'
from

Code:

"$@" > /dev/null 2>&1 &

to

Code:

"$@" >> /tmp/lmsout.log 2>&1 &

I mean, run it as a console app: `/usr/bin/perl slimserver.pl`. This
will cause it to dump a load of information to the screen, including
stuff that will never show up in the LMS log file.

Would you explain this a little more please ?

Do you mean change from user to root (sudo su) stop and then start LMS ?

I have already done that, without any change in the return of a status
request, or the server log message.

Thanks

Just run it from console (as root). It will tell you every thing that's

Thanks

I still can't get the Shuttle to power on.

I went to the Mac mini which has the Raspberry OS installed on the live
usb stick.

LMS installed on the stick is v 8.1.1 amd.64.deb

I edited the file as suggested, stopped and started LMS

A status request tells LMS is running

The server log say, safe started, died, restarting.

bpa, I think I'll leave for now, if you don't mind, Thanks for your
interest (and Michael's) but it's all becoming a bit of a tiresome
exercise.

I thought it might be a good thing to recycle an old Win 7 computer, but
it looks like I'll be sticking with rpi

Have a good evening :)

IIRC you're running a service that doesn't work - you have to add to the
file with the other command line option.

The file shoudl be /etc/default/logitechmediaserver

And you edit it and add the "--d_startup" option into the SLIMOPTIONS
variable

The OS can be run as a live usb stick (with persistance).

I popped in into a late 2012 Mac mini

Installed the LMS 8.1.1 amd.64.deb

and get the same results

Code:

  squeezeboxserver_safe started.

  Logitech Media Server died. Restarting.

We don't have 5.28 binaries for 32 bit. Did you get any error with 64
bit?

up

This was the log message that I did not includ in the first post, sorry.

Code:

2020-12-20 13:22:56 squeezeboxserver_safe started.
2020-12-20 13:23:01 Logitech Media Server died. Restarting.

I presume the input command would be (after stopping obvs ) ?

Code:

sudo nano /etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver start --d_startup

If no log could there be a permissions issue access LOG and Cache.

Otherwise, try running LMS with the --d_startup command line option to

There is a new version and I tought to give it a try.

Is there any way to make this a viable install ?

Thanks
