Thank you for your insight, Michael. I can now see that the time problem
is key. Should have noticed before that the 'time screen' on my SQB
radio is totally incorrect. This, I assume, is why I am getting the
'Connect time out' messages - i.e. due to a mismatch between when I make
the request in (false) picoreplayer time as compared to the response in
real time.
I have rebooted pcp and restarted lms as you have suggested, but have
not solved the time problem.
It may be of interest to relate that if I run my SQB radio from a laptop
with lms 8.1.1 downloaded, there is no similar timing problem. However,
the laptop is closed a large part of the day and is not a solution I am
happy with.
So, what next? All help most gratefully received.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins not updating

2021-06-22 Thread fmanchu

I have been successfully running picoreplayer/rpi/LMS with a SQB radio
for months - until a few days ago when I noticed that I had no third
party plugins and therefore no Spotty or BBC Sounds.
I have reinstalled picoreplayer and LMS on the rpi but with no
improvement in the error messages.
The following extract from the log file shows a heap of problems which
unfortunately I have no idea how to fix. Any help gratefully received,
thank you.

No major bug, but there have been a number of fixes for various things
since then. And updating is very simple. A couple of mouse clicks and
then LMS will restart automatically with the new version. All your
settings survive.

notice you're on 8.1.1 from January. in rPi webGUI: LMS tab, select
"select branch" and STABLE. Then click on UPDATE LMS. This will take
you to a new page and likely it will say "No Update Found".But below
that, click on the "Manual Update Button". It will then download and
install the latest 8.1.x LMS. You should then end up with:

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins not updating

Here is one, specifically the nice summary from @kidstypike (post #19)
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?114408-Setting-Up-LMS-On-A-Raspberry-Pi-4B
This will get you from install of pCP as a LMS server, through mounting
a drive.

Here's a lng thread with some useful info in it
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?113058-Raspberry-Pi-basics

But, as Paul said, start with the "official" instructions, but realize
that pCP functions, syntax, semantics evolve faster than the
documentation, so it is easy for the documentation to be essentially
correct, but slightly different than you will actually experience.
That's why I like post #19 of the first thread. It's simple, current,
and works.

The other thing to take caution in, especially if you setup Samba, is to
make sure your labels/names are exactly correct (including upper/lower
case). I remember my first time setting up Samba entering the server and
share names, then going to windows to create a network location,
creating the path using those names and it not
working...repeatedly...until I finally found a lower case letter than
needed to be upper.

You will not regret moving your LMS to a rpi. A little inexpensive box
that can remain on always, draws very little power, and is quite nimble.
The UI is simple and highly functional, and if you aren't using it
already I (and others) recommend using the material skin plugin, it s a
great LMS UI

You could start with the "official" ones ... which would usually be
enough.
If you find that they do not help enough then pointing out where they
are not clear enough would help to get them improved.

I use a Pi to run LMS with an attached hard drive. The PCp player
includes Samba which will allow window 10 system to connect to the pi.
I also use my windows system to add music and also use the hard drive
attached to the pi as a on-site backup.

I am not a Linux expert and I was able to set it up and use it.

You will need a pi, case, and power supply. If you are concerned about
electric use and heat, you might want a pi 3B. If you want a faster USB
hub and want the latest get a 4. Read through the Pi core player
documentation, it is not difficult but you do need atttention to syntax
details.

I had put off the transition to the pi, but wish I did it sooner as I am
very happy with the little box that take up little space, makes no
sound, and uses a lot less electricity than running a larger computer.

Good luck.

An alternative to a Pi based solution could be a CORE32 from
Polyvection. It is probably dearer than a Pi based solution but the aim
is to be easier to setup but may have limitations to achieve that .

First units have not been delivered (shipping promised about now - 3rd
week of June) so you'll have to wait for real user opinions.

The minimum that you need is a Raspberry Pi (probably a 4 or a 3) and a
power supply.

See

It just looked too hard.

give picoreplayer.org a try - it's linux optimized to run Squeezelite
and/or LMS on a Pi.

The NAS is a bit power hungry to have on all the time, so would be
looking at having my files on a USB HDD plugged into the Pi.
Can that HDD be accessed via a windows PC on the same network ? ( to add
new music )

Yes, this can be set up.

Any clues on what I would need ?

I'd recommend a Pi4 with 2GB of RAM, and a good case. I'm using the
popular Flirc case, as it's cooking the CPU well.

I am feeling that you are right.
I started to look at the Raspberry Pi but got quickly confused by the
overwhelming varieties/accessories/daughterboards/ etc etc.

It just looked too hard.

I will go down that rabbit hole again and see what I find.

The NAS is a bit power hungry to have on all the time, so would be
looking at having my files on a USB HDD plugged into the Pi.
Can that HDD be accessed via a windows PC on the same network ? ( to add
new music )

Any clues on what I would need ?
Just a basic stand alone unit that can run LMS ( mostly mp3 & FLAC
files, some at high rez )
I run gigabit LAN to ASUS modem/router.
Touch is LAN , 2 booms and 2 classics are wifi.

I think your LMS has reached the end of its usefulness, I'm sorry to
say. The ReadyNAS' Perl is pretty ancient (5.10, I think), and I
strongly suggest you get a Raspberry Pi to run LMS on. You can still use
the NAS to store the music files. You'd be surprised how much better
this will run.

>From you other thread (about alarm settings), I think you mention you're
using a ReadyNas to run LMS and that you're unable to install beyond
7.9.0. I think this may be the issue on the Plugin difficulty. There
have been a number of threads about ReadyNas support for LMS it might be
worth looking at. I'm not a ReadyNas user: I run LMS on a Raspberry Pi
with files on a QNAS. I dare say someone with more hands-on experience
will be along with more specific advice.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Plugins not updating

2021-06-14 Thread leinster-lad

Hi Guys,

I have noticed that I do not have any "third party plugins" listed on my
LMS /server settings / plugins page.

Found this in my server log and was wondering what it means and how to
fix it ?

(if i enter the URL into a normal web browser, I can get the page to
load no worries)

cheers in advance
