Might be the missing mysqueezebox.com account be an issue for the long
start time, or any other ideas as to what might cause a timeout during
start of LMS?

No, it's a 3rd party plugin to listen to Spotify. No need to disable it.

As I said: Spotty had an issue which could lead to this behaviour. Make
sure you're running the latest (if you're using it at all).

Yes, now I can access it. No idea what it had. I deinstalled and
installed the latest nightly build.

One thing though remained, it need very, very long time to start.
Server port 9000 shows running but I can not access it. After some long
time it starts and run as it should.

Apple deactivated the Server functionality from macOS starting with
mojave. Prior there was a package "Server" available from the AppStore
for the appropriate (and long time ago there was a different Mac OS X
Server build), now for mojave there is no more Server. Some of the stuff
like Timemachine, Shares were build into the base OS, but all others are
missing.

Wow, I left the computer for hours and now
# grep httpport ~/Library/Application\ Support/Squeezebox/server.prefs

And before those hours that would not have given you anything?

httpport: 9000

Ok, the port is 9000.

and the server is running.

Can you access it?

However if I stop it, it won't start (probable by tomorrow)... seems to
be running in a timeout of something.
Anything else what I could check?

Are you using Spotty? If so, are you running the leatest and greatest?

Which is the best recommended macos to uptrade to before mojave that is
also server capable - Sierra, High Sierra?

Anyone should do - I'd recommend the latest possible. (except I'm not
sure what you consider "server capable").

Yes, I tried both on the local computer (it is a Mac Mini), both don't
work.

What would

grep httpport ~/Library/Application\ Support/Squeezebox/server.prefs

tell you? You'll need to run this from the account under which LMS is
running.

Same. I tried to stop on the cmd line and remove from autostart. As soon
as I start it then in GUI it shows it is starting which takes forever
and doesn't start.

Try to run LMS manually:

/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/slimserver.pl

Would that tell you anything?

Actually I wanted to upgrade from El Capitan 10.11 to latest mojave
10.14 because LMS don't want to start any longer on 10.11.
I am using
v7.9.2, 1551709029, Mon Mar 4 15:44:17 CET 2019) perl 5.018002

and it either takes too long to start or don't start at all.
Was looking in the logs and there is nothing in there.

Any hints if I can check anything else prior upgrading?
I also must not upgrade to mojave but Sierra or High Sierra if that is
more appropriate and better for LMS?

Thanks very much for any hints.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Request: Rename "check_update.pl" to "lms_check_update.pl"

2018-09-29 Thread MrC

A rather generic dialog popped up today on my macOS Mojave system - it
said check_update.pl wanted to control my computer. Not knowing what
that was, I did a google search for "check_update.pl" and found nothing
useful.

If possible, please rename the Perl script to at least suggest to which
program / application the script belongs. General "setup" and
"check_update" and "doit" type of names are in today's hostile
malware-plagued environment not a good idea.
