Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS not starting: "control characters are not allowed" (LMS v8.1.2, 1617513319)
Hi Sorry for the delay in response been away. Did try a delete of cache and preferences from the GUI. It did allow me to start the LMS and play from it but it would not let me set up material skin for some reason. Anyway as discussed the default was to reroot and start again. That's what I will do. Incidentally I have been running the LMS from an attached USB drive. When you expand the partition to 2000KB does that effect the operation of the attached LMS? Is there an order of when the expansion should take place ie after the attached drive is set up or before? Thanks for the contributions. What I am trying to do now is figure out how to get my LMS back up and running. From what you all have said there seems to be a thought the the issue is not enough memory when I tried to update. So I will make the resize to 2000MB. I was then thinking of deleting Cache and Preferences via the GUI to see if that helped because some of the files were empty and have been deleted. If that doesn't work I would then try another LMS update. If all else fails I will have to go back to square one and re root PcP. However using the new "Create Backup" feature in pCP for a 16GB card takes for ever, and burning the resulting .iso file to a new 16GB card takes even longer, and failed, slightly different size card? YAML::XS is used to load some configuration files: preference files (end with '.prefs') or skin configuration files (named 'skinconfig.yml'). And when loading a plugin cache file. And perhaps some others. So it feels as if one of these might have become corrupted - they are supposed to be text files, and should not contain any control characters. You would see an error message in the LMS log if it relates to a the preference or skin file, but I think that the plugin cache file loader does not log an error. I wonder if that "kills" LMS - I see that reading prefs and skin files is protected with a perl 'eval' statement, but reading the plugin cache file is not. You might see an "info" message immediately prior to LMS's attempt to load the plugin cache file, set 'server.plugins' log level to 'info' to see that. The plugin cache file is named 'plugin-data.yaml'. I don't remember what it does... but it's not much use if it can't be read. mrw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38299 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114307 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
