Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 7.9.2 released

2020-08-24 Thread mherger

I released Logitech Media Server v7.9.3 to address many minor (and not
so...) issues which cropped up since the release of 7.9.2 earlier this
year. No new features.

At the same time I decided to pull v7.7.x as the "official" release. As
no official support can be expected anyway, there's no reason to have
that old thing still around.

More details are available here:
http://htmlpreview.github.io/?https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Logitech/slimserver/7.9.3/Changelog7.html

I've created a 7.9.4 branch, which might see the random bug fix and
nightly builds. Don't expect much activity there.

Enjoy the music!

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 7.9.2 released

2020-02-27 Thread Michael Herger

Just curious: is there any reason for keeping LMS 7.7.6 as the official
download on mysqueezebox.com?
Why not replace it with 7.9.2?

When Logitech announced the end of Squeezebox it was decided that no
more development would be done beyond 7.7, plus important fixes. 7.8+
was defined as the community supported releases. Therefore
mysqueezebox.com still only provides what is officially supported.

I think it's never a good idea to install an older version over a new

You should be fine just downgrading. Both ways (7.x -> 8, 8 -> 7.x) will

I am interested in trying LMS8, but I may be too much of a wimp to deal
with the issues that arise from using software under heavy development,
so I might decide to revert to 7.9.2, or more likely 7.9.3.

However the player interface doesn't come up, and just hangs at the
"Loading Logitech Media Server" spinner at the URL
http://servername:9000/settings/server/wizard.html. I think this is
because of the following JS error:

What browser are you using?

You could try to fire up http://servername:9000?skipWizard=1 to skip the
wizard and get in to the web UI directly.

I've just installed this on a Raspberry PI (latest debian buster), and
I'm having some problems with it. The management interface of the

However the player interface doesn't come up, and just hangs at the

because of the following JS error:

My mistake (that’s why I deleted this message, sorry you had seen it)
I was looking in the Darwin directory and not the Darwin 64

Right, that's what I assumed: there seems to be an issue with macOS in a
VM where the architecture wouldn't be reported correctly. This would
result in the symptoms you were seeing (wrong binaries chosen). But
testing the wrong ones obviously leads to the same problem :-).

I don't think there's any NAS available where the vendor would still
support LMS. Synology announced a few weeks ago that they will stop
providing it for their systems.

Therefore you're better off seeing what the community does support. And

Looking at it another way it is possible to limit DSTM to a mix BASED on
a limited number of Genres.
A while ago Michael made it possible to create a Random Seed mix.
I’m using an iPhone so a bit difficult For me to search but if you try a
Forum search for “Random Seed” you should find the thread which explains
how to use.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 7.9.2 released

2020-01-17 Thread darrenburg

I am not sure if this is the right thread.

I have a Squeezebox (LMS) server running on an old QNAP, which I have
not really updated for a number of years. The LMS is from 2010. I don't
use it for anything other than a NAS drive and LMS, but was reluctant to
update the firmware, as I did not want to break the LMS. Lately, some
of the radio stations are not playing, and I would like to retire the
NAS unit (as it has just a single drive). I am very happy to see that
this software is still being maintained, though.

Is there a list somewhere of "modern" supported hardware with model
numbers/OS versions? I saw the neargear NAS's in the list of supported
hardware, but I also read that the latest units don't work anymore, so I
am a bit confused. I could always go the Rasberry PI approach, but this
does add cost and an extra device that I need to maintain. I need to buy
a new NAS anyway.

PS I would be happy to make a donation!

I already have that, with MultiLibrary and CustomBrowse (Erland's). I've
got a Multichannel library and a Stereo library. But LastMix keeps
choosing Multichannel material even if the Multichannel library is set
to be included only for the living room Squeezebox (which is connected
to a multichannel amp via spdif). So I'm at my desk, using Squeezelite
and LastMix keeps picking multichannel tracks just the same.

I'm sorry, no. Your best bet probably is to create a library view
excluding those files you don't want to see. And another one with only
those albums. You can do this using the Advanced Search, then saving a
search as a library view.

Then select the one without those files as your active view. And use The
Extended Browse Modes plugin to create a menu item to browse those
special albums.

7.9.2 had gone stable.
Two questions on the above.

1) Is it possible to exclude a genre from Don't Stop the Music? I have
5.1 music on my server and use ffmpeg to convert it to 2.0 for players
not supporting DTS/AC3. The script always works when called directly but
when going from 2.0 to 5.1 music... sometimes it just outputs static.
Furthermore, I have all the corresponding albums in 2.0, so there's no
real point in using 5.1 stuff, unless I specifically select it. All the
5.1 content has genre "5.1" if that could help (and it comes all from
the same directory).

2) I have an album in opus, files are *.opus. Scanner is not picking
them up. Is there something specific I need to do? I'll activate debug
for the scanner and report back for this, but maybe I'm overlooking
something.

Thanks for keeping the flame lit. It's immensely appreciated.

Only ever having had a Touch this feature has not come to my notice. I'm
really impressed that Michael and others are still improving LMS in so
many ways.

Presets are the physical buttons (1-6) on a Boom or Radio, you can
assign a Favourite/Track/Album/ect. to one of these buttons. You can
also do this on a Touch, but it's a bit convoluted.

Endorse!

I am grateful that in the Release Notes for 7.9.2... Michael calls out
contributions from a number of other people. Several years ago over 95%
of the commits shown were from Michael alone. Glad to see more people
with the skills to contribute doing so.

I know it's a labor of love for many and I greately appreciate it.

Best regards!

Michael, what currency do you prefer? I'd had so much use from LMS and
my Duet since Logitech discontinued it I really want to donate. But I
don't want to put currency conversion costs on you.
