Yes, of course, one can always install without being allowed to sudo. Installation using the GUI just requires knowledge of an admin user's name and password, while being allowed to sudo requires you actually be an admin user. That does mean that in Terminal one can su into an admin account and then use sudo, but I don't know if that would work in this case. I mentioned the matter as it was one possible reason why the procedure did not work for the poster. I know that most people just have one account which is an admin account. But I was taught long ago that it is safer to have an admin and a non-admin account and run as non-admin for everyday use. danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105996 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Here's what I get. VanessalessiMac:server JV$ perl -v This is perl 5, version 18, subversion 2 (v5.18.2) built for darwin-thread-multi-2level (with 2 registered patches, see perl -V for more detail) Copyright 1987-2013, Larry Wall Perl may be copied only under the terms of either the Artistic License or the GNU General Public License, which may be found in the Perl 5 source kit. Complete documentation for Perl, including FAQ lists, should be found on this system using "man perl" or "perldoc perl". If you have access to the Internet, point your browser at http://www.perl.org/, the Perl Home Page. Just installed version 7.9 and it's running! YAY! Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server won't run on Mac
VanessalessiMac:server JV$ cd /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/ VanessalessiMac:server JV$ ./slimserver.pl The following modules failed to load: EV JSON::XS YAML::XS *** NOTE: If you're running some unsupported Linux/Unix platform, please use the buildme.sh script located here: https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver-vendor/tree/public/7.8/CPAN Ok, that's good information. Are you trying to run LMS 7.8.0? If so, then please get the latest 7.8.1 nightly instead (or 7.9 right away). Something's fishy with your installation. What would "perl -v" give you anyway? -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server won't run on Mac
I ran the commands, it asks for the password (so I assume its doing what it should), and I enter it. Then goes back to the prompt. Try running LMS and it says starting, then stops again. I can't locate the server.log file no matter how I search or navigate to the folder. Here is what I get when I run the commands from another thread I found. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server won't run on Mac
But I think I mentioned elsewhere that the instructions say to run this command as the user who installed LMS. And that user may not have sudo privileges. Still, jvbucks, we need to know in what way the commands aren't working. danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105996 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server won't run on Mac
Did you enter it on one line? Unfortunately it got broken in to two lines when displayed. Corrected it. If that doesn't work (which I pretty much doubt), you should give us more information about your system. Upload your server.log, follow the steps outlined in some of those other threads to run LMS manually and see why it fails. And report back all error messages you encounter. Things usually don't fail silently.
