Re: [Sugar-devel] Fwd: Regarding issues with soundcard in XO

Wow nice. This worked. I was using a Q7B26 firmware and now I have upgraded
to Q7B37 and the sound is back on :). Thanks a lot. Your help is greatly
appreciated.

Perhaps your XO-4 has damage to the audio codec chip. Or perhaps the
 firmware version is old.

Please find the firmware version installed, and capture dmesg to a
file, and attach the file to mail:

 echo $(/proc/device-tree/openprom/model)
 dmesg | gzip dmesg.txt.gz

If the firmware version is earlier than Q7B37, upgrade to Q7B37 and
 test again.

Good to hear.

Now that you know you were using pre-release beta firmware and
software, you might investigate the released software from OLPC and
OLPC AU.

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Release_notes/13.2.0 is the latest release
from OLPC.

Gonzalo gave a pointer for what OLPC AU are using.

Take care to make backup because reinstalling operating system erases
all data.

The kernel is now upgraded to 3.5.7_xo4-20140604.0345.olpc.a8976c9. But it
changes nothing, still can't find the soundcard or anything. I ran the
alsa-info script and am attaching the output, maybe this can help?

Thanks a lot for helping. Really appreciate your responses.

Thanks. You are using an early test kernel from 2013-05-13.

You have probably hit a known problem with the kernel audio driver.
Several problems were fixed after that date.

Please upgrade the kernel. Start the Terminal activity and type this:

 sudo yum install -y kernel

Then shutdown and reboot. Check with uname -r that the kernel version
has changed. Then try to reproduce the problem. Let me know how it goes.
