[freenet-support] Not using enough avail bandwith - how to increase?
Windows XP Pro SP1 Sygate PF - set remote port local port to 8481 / act as client server / allow ICMP traffic 1 Mb/s down - 128 kbps up Node Version0.5 Protocol VersionSTABLE-1.51 Build Number5100 CVS Revision1.90.2.50.2.128 using 2-3 kB/s up down (measured w/ utilkit ul/dl meter) Had it installed a few months ago (switched cable providers, took ALOT longer than it should have), was eating up plenty of bandwidth (250-800kb/s). Now I can't get it to use enough. 3 days to put 128M in the datastore (10G alotted(240 days to [EMAIL PROTECTED] rate?!?!)) I've tried several times to change the banwidth limits in settings, not sure if I'm using valid numbers, it keeps changing all three back to zero... I would like to use approx 50% of my bandwidth for freenet. I figure that is: D/L: 1024/8=128*1000=128,000/2=64,000 U/L: 128/8=16*1000=16,000/2=8,000 Total: 8,000+64,000=72,000 Anything else I can change? ___ Support mailing list Support@freenetproject.org http://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.freenet.support Unsubscribe at http://dodo.freenetproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support Or mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

If it is just a result of people being in a happy christmas mood, ofcourse those money should be saved for the summertime (or when ever), but if it is a result of the project making/getting a bit more money than it takes to pay toad maby they should be put to use? Maby starting a bounty system for those things that toad can't fix easily would make things run more smoothly (i can't help wonder if the win-installer issues would have been fixed faster if toad, besides saying that it should be fixed asap also had promised xx$ to the first person to fix it?). I don't have the authority to do that. Ofcourse such a bounty system should be more organised (who pays the money, who is the judge of when a problem is solved etc.) But i think it might have it's strength in windows and mac specific problems that toad can't fix, and maby also in other problems that i as a non coder don't really understand. Or, if the money is there, a second (part time) coder would be possible? I'm just throwing it out there. I have no insight into the echonomy of the project besides what can be read off the web page. That might be possible. However the only way to be really sure is to try. And trying is quite hazardous. Anyway Ian is the person to talk to about this. I believe KenMan was interested. Snapshots mirrors: When someone in the irc channel asks for a .ref file or similar and they can't connect to freenet.org (for various reasons - censor or hosting problems), i would like to have one (or more) unofficial mirrors to point them to. Since i'm trying to remain semi anonymous i will not send them to http://my-ip.dk/snapshots-mirror/. So if someone would mirror these files and put a list of mirrors out (on the wiki or in the channel topic or where ever), i think that would be a great help for some (comming) freenet users. Well if it's a censorship problem, don't you think they'd get blocked too? :) But it might be worthwhile anyway. Project progress: With toad (and friends?) working mainly on the simulations and few new builds comming out it is hard for the average user, who dosn't folow the conversations in the irc channel to see if anything is happening or we have all gone home and left the project for dead. I think it might be good for morale, feeling of comunity etc. if toad (or someone else?) once in a while posted a little info of what is going on, to one of the mail lists. Agreed. I should post more status reports. :) I know it is hard to translate the numbers and graphs of the simulations to somthing that we all (coders and non-coders alike) will understand, and i'm not asking for a 10 page scientific paper, but just a confirmation that somthing is happening. (Yes, i know that toad is hired as a coder, not a journalist, but i really think it would be good for keeping people around.) It's not unreasonable to expect me to keep the lists informed of current work and progress. Re: [freenet-support] Couldn't retrieve key
Some more detail would be nice. There are several different Couldn't retrieve key messages... Either Data Not Found, or Route Not Found, usually. You can get extra detail by going to Advanced mode on the main web interface page ( http://127.0.0.1:/ ). Also make sure you can accept connections on the FNP port (if you are directly connected and not firewalled, you can; if you have a firewall, NAT or router you may need to open or forward the port, which is listed as listenPort in the freenet.ini file). And show us the top of the Open Connections page. And can you get any of the main freesites linked from the web interface page above? The Freedom Engine, for example? Leave the node running for a day or two solid, it takes a while to learn its way around the network. On Sat, Jan 01, 2005 at 03:10:07AM +, Sean Chin wrote: I keep getting this error message. Re: [freenet-support] Error Connecting
Hi. You have installed Freenet, and you go to http://127.0.0.1:/ (Web Interface), and the bookmark links don't work? Several obvious things: - Click Advanced mode - Click on Open Connections, and send us the top few lines - how many open connections, inbound, outbound and total, how many transfers, and so on. - You need to forward the listenPort on the router. This is the FNP port, not the FCP port (8481) or the web interface HTTP port (). The FNP port varies on each node to make it harder to block Freenet. However if you go to the Environment page and look for the Transports box, and the Current IPv4 port, the port number is there. Forward that, so you can receive connections; this will make it a lot easier for freenet to integrate into the network - Assuming it has some connections, let it run for a couple of days uninterrupted, and it should learn its way around the network and be able to find content. It will take some time for it to be a fully integrated node with optimal performance. You may want to try prodding it with Frost ( http://jtcfrost.sf.net/ ), a messaging (like usenet) and filesharing app that runs over Freenet.
