[pfSense Support] DNS corrupt? How to fix

2009-10-05 Thread Jeremy Bennett
So there is one website which I know to be up and working that I am
trying to access. When I am behind my pfsense/Alix 2c3, it does not
work (will not load in a browser, will not ping, however every other
site on the internet works--this holds true for any computer on the
network). When I plug the modem directly into computer, the site in
question loads right up. A week or so ago I was changing DNS servers
in my PF webgui... could I have corrupted a DNS cache somewhere? I
tried resetting to factory defaults and restoring my config, but that
did not work.

Any ideas?

Is there a way to flush everything stored on the device but the config?

Thanks for the help, looking forward to the book... Any chance there
will be a kindle version?

open a shell and take a peek in /var/named and see if there's anything
obvious; be careful to delete only files and not directories otherwise
things will break.

sorry to be vague, I'm not using pfsense as a resolver on any boxes

you'll probably get better tech info on a freeBSD site

personally I'd rather take my chance with a second-hand Cisco off ebay
(which is what I did at home) - a 24 x 10/100 port switch with a couple
of gigabit uplinks for home file server was barely GB£60.

you can then measure traffic usage, have a guest vlan etc which gives
you high geek ratings :-)

There are some very reasonable managed HP ProCurve switches, including
fanless ones http://www.procurve.com/news/fanless1800.htm

While I have used Netgear, I much prefer ProCurve. Even low end
ProCurve.

[pfSense Support] pfSense and SpamD

2009-10-05 Thread Fabian Abplanalp

Hi

I'm trying to setup pfSense with SpamD (Greylisting and tarpit). In the
first setup with the real Mailserver behind the NAT it works
perfectly, but if I setup the forwarding to a server with a public IP
no mails are forwarded. Are there any limitations?

Thanks,
Fabian

Yeah, I don't think that will work. It's designed to forward to mail
exchangers behind the firewall.

What should I do ?

The disk is different on the destination than it was where you
installed it. Put in the correct disk name there, then edit /etc/fstab
after it's done booting. Look above the boot logs to see what the
correct disk is, maybe something like :

ufs:ad2s1a
