file transfer question
hi all I have encountered some problems while using Pidgin+Openfire?? There are two users A and B. Login A with Pidgin, and B with Spark. After set in Account Management: (1)Basic settings Protocol: xmmp User_name: my_user_name Domain: my_domain (2)Advance settings Link Security:need to encrypt; Link Port:5222; Link Server:my_domain; File Transfer Porxy:proxy.my_domain; BOSH URL: empty; (3) Proxy settings Proxy Type:No Proxy(default); User B(with Spark) could send file to A(with Pidgin), but when A send file to B, B could get the message receive request, when i click the accept button, i got error:File has an error during transmission?? When i login B with Psi+ w64, B can also get the message receice request , click accetp button, chose dir to save, finally got the error: ??unable to connect peer for data transfer. Ensure that your Data Transfer settings are proper. If you are behind a NAT router or firewall then you'llneed to open the proper TCP port or specify a Data Transfer proxy in your account settings." I change Proxy Type in "(3) PROXY settings" from "No Proxy" to ??Use global proxy settings??, or change File Transfer Porxy in "(2)Advance settings" from "proxy.my_domain" to ??proxy.eu.jabber.org??. It did not work. Do you have any suggestions, look forwark you reply, best wishes. pidgin user.___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? Re: File Transfer Issue
Hi Nadeem, Unfortunately XMPP file transfers are a little complicated and there's no short answer. There's several different ways to send a file over XMPP and it depends on the clients, and what versions of the transfer methods involved as to what method gets picked. Since you're on Windows you won't be able to use the 'fastest' method in Pidgin of "Jingle XMPP File Transfer" which has a direct connection between clients, and you're probably either using the file transfer proxy (as per Advanced tab settings in Pidgin) or failing that, falling back to the 'slowest' method, in-band file transfer which breaks the file up in pieces and sends it in XMPP messages. Try changing the file transfer proxy settings in the Advanced settings tab of the account settings to those of your XMPP server, or use an alternative method such as uploading the file to a website (eg send.firefox.com ) or a shared network folder Cheers, Eion On 19 September 2017 at 00:19, <i...@eplusstudio.co.in> wrote: > Hi, > > > > We are using Openfire on Windows Server 2008 as central server along with > Pidgin (Ver. 2.12) on Windows 10, Although my file transfer are working but > the speed doesn’t goes above 650 KBps, > > Our internal network speed at all nodes are 1 Gbps but still pidgin is not > able to utilize whole speed while file transfer. > > > > I am trying to find every possible tweak but not able to match the network > speed. > > > > Regards, > > Nadeem Shaikh > > Eplus Studio > > ___ > Support@pidgin.im mailing list > Want to unsubscribe? Re: Antivirus Scan after file-transfer
Hi, I work on antivirus and other IT security issues. AFAIK, if your antivirus has been correctly installed and set up, it will scan any new file that is being written on the HDD. Thus, any file transfer would be silently scanned, no matter if the file came from an HTTP/FTP access or IM file transfer. I would suggest you to scan the suspicious file using www.virustotal.comanyway, just in case of. Still, the most important is to have an antivirus up to date, with full-patched softwares. HTH. File transfer failures
I am using Pidgin (2.7.11) on windows in two locations - at work on Windows XP and at home on Windows 7, using a Windows Live account. In both places I am unable to receive files transferred to me from people using MSN. In both places the file transfer starts, I accept it and tell Pidgin to save, but either nothing happens or it appears to work until 99% then states that the file transfer was canceled by the sender. I haven't been able to formulate an search query that sheds any light on this issue. There seem to have been related bugs in the past, but there are indications that upgrades were to have fixed this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? File transfer problems
Hello, I am very new to ubuntu and the linux platform and I'm having a few problems with my pidgin. When I first installed pidgin it was version 2.7.3 from the repository. It worked extremely well except that the file transfer through msn was extremely slow ranging about 2-3 kb/s. After a few days of looking online I read that this was mainly because direct connections were not supported. But then I came across a pidgin developer post which said that the msn file transfer bug had been fixed in version 2.7.3 and later. In hope of fixing my file transfer I went to the pidgin website and installed the new version 2.7.9. The install was very smooth, I did exactly what was written on the page. Installed the package with Gdebi installer and then ran system update. Pidgin upgraded fine but now I can no longer recieve or send files. I dont even get the prompt to accept file and neither does the person im trying to send a file to. Also sound clips which worked before had stopped working. I thought maybe going back to the old version would fix it, so I uninstalled it with synaptic and reinstalled the old version through the repository. But the problem remains. Also after uninstalling pidgin seemed to know my login details on the new install even though I had uninstalled all pidgin packages through synaptic choosing the complete removal tool. If anyone can help me fix the file transfer sound clip problem Id be very grateful. Thank you Sohrab Am I dreaming? File transfer and Re: Ticket #3959
The file transfer isn't working for me anyway somehow for instance (icq-protocol). Always get that cairo error and then pidgin crashes. Tried almost everything. So better FIX this, before thinking about extending this basic feature. By the way, zipping/unzipping takes time? What do you want to transfer via AIM?? Gigabytes of data??? I mean, it would probably work, but therefor you should definitely use something else. File Transfer is not working
Hi everyone, I'm having trouble with the pidgin file transfer. If I have the File-Transfer Default-Proxy activated, I can't either send or receive files. If I delete the File-Transfer Default-Proxy, I can send File's, but receiving files is still not possible. Further Description: I accept the incoming File request from a contact. Pidgin creates a plain File with the exact name. The file is empty and has a size of 0 KB. I tried this on different IM-Platforms, last on a self hosted Openfire XMPP Server. I'm looking forward to your answers, Michael -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. ___ Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe? Problems With File Transfer
Generally the only protocol that I try to use the File Transfer feature is Yahoo (at least lately). Sometimes the transfer works and the file goes through, most of the time though it will not start. Here lately the person on the other end is also using Pidgin, although that isn't always the case (it's always been hit or miss on whether transfer will go through or not). File transfer error from Windows version 2.6.2 to Mac iChat client...

When someone sends you a file, Pidgin will suggest you to save it in the same directory as the last received file. Font Issue and MSN File Transfer Speed
Hey guys, I am new to the forum and I am hoping someone will be able to help me with my issue. The other day I changed the default font to a new font I downloaded which is working fine but now the font size differs from contact to contact.
