Pidgin 2.10.10 on linux, and I think 2.10.9 on windows.

I noticed today that when any msn account logged in, pidgin will sit
there and consume 200k-300k of bandwidth, even when idle. I disabled the
msn accounts, and the bandwidth consumption dropped to zero. This
started a few days or so ago (that I noticed) on all of my computers,
both linux and windows.

Anyone else seen this?

Please look at the recent postings to this mailing list and see if
your problem is consistent with the other problems resulting from

I didn't see them, otherwise I would have looked. I must have missed
them somehow. And I'm sorry I offended so many delicate sensibilities by
posting to what I thought was a peer to peer support mailing list.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, and the rest of you can
go screw yourselves. I'm removing myself from the list, y'all have a

I think, it is the same problem. Without the Application Id fix, pidgin
is sending again and again with high frequency the request for the
contact list (I saw this with --debug set). Pidgin should give up after
certain amount of retries.

Yes. I think the policy is to make it easy for users to get support,
and if you look at many of the questions, I suspect that the users would
not be able to cope with subscribing first. The instruction to mail the
list submission address is on the help screen.

This is also why you get indignant requests to have mail removed from
third party archives; people think they are mailing to a staffed contact
centre, where it will only be seen by a pidgin employee (how they think
the staff are paid, is a mystery).

Incidentally, the symptom reported this time was slightly different,
although it may be a slightly more technical report of the same problem..

I do not fully understand, why the people are posting to this list, but
do not read the postings in this list. Is the list policy set to allow
posting without subscribing?

It's boring to read again and again the same question which are already
fully answered.
