Backup your profile.
You don't know where that is? http://seamonkey.ilias.ca/profilefaq/

Or use something like MozBackup.

Re: Seamonkey 2.0 is JUNK .

2009-12-12 Thread Robert Kaiser

John Boyle wrote:

To Robert Kaiser: Then, you start, by explaining how, on earth, does one
migrate ones Addressbooks intact to SM2, in detail, PLEASE!???

First, it would probably be better to start a new thread for this, as it
becomes hard to find buried in that quite badly named thread it's in
right now.

That said, there are multiple ways:

1) The easiest solution is to let 2.0(.x) import your whole 1.x profile.
That should be offered automatically when no 2.0 profile is present yet
and your 1.x profile is correctly registered (should be the case when
1.x find it). If you have no useful/important data in your 2.0 profile
yet, you can try moving your complete 2.0 profile directories (Documents
and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey) out of the
way and then launching 2.0 (or even better 2.0.1, candidate builds are
available right now) again.

2) If you want to import all your mail data from a usable profile from
the old version into an existing new profile, you can use Tools
Import... from a mailnews or address book window, select Import
Everything and in the next step SeaMonkey 1.x, ..., one step further,
the profile you want to import from, and then you should get all this
data imported automatically.

3) You can open the address book window in 1.x, go to Tools Export...
and export your address books in LDIF format. From 2.0, you can use
Tools Import... in the address book window with the Address Books
option to import those into the new version.

4) The most manual variant, which you should only use if none of the
others applies or works correctly, is first creating empty new address
books for those in the new profile, and then replacing their on-disk
files in the new profile with copies of the files from the old profiles.
If you really need to resort to that option, please ask about it in a
new thread here and I'm sure someone will be able to help you with more
specific instructions, but you usually should not need this option.

I hope one of those variants can help you.

within this area, do you not think?

If I Am incorrect, please let me know.

Thanks for everyone's input and assistance on this and other topics on
 the list..

You'll find it more likely for a filter say for sorting to a folder for
an email address is to choose

From: Contains (not match all) and remove all information to the left of
 the @,

If a filter doesn't work click on edit and change the rules maybe switch
 to: Reply to or To

Or change match all the following to any of the following.

What specifically do you need to filter?

Phillip... thank you for the response.

I Am filtering emails from various sources into the corresponding
folders I set up. i.e. yoga, fax, lending. personal and clients to name
 a few.

I have set up filters by each category named above, then placing the
parameters rather it be subject, from, to, or body.. I use Match any of
the following and set to have the messages moved to the appropriate
 folder.

I Am finding that for messages already in folders, even in the main
folder, when I click on Tools - Run Filters on Folder nothing
happens, even if I open Message Filter and run individual filters, that
does not work to forward messages to the correct folder.

Any other suggestions or recommendations for this?

 TIA...
It works best if you first leave the messages in inbox. Then create the
filter to work on inbox. Then choose match any of ... , then select
desired folder. the filter should usually be set up to From:

The easiest way is right click,(control click), or click and holds on
the from and click on create filter.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Perhaps I'm just not understanding
what you're trying to say. Also, perhaps it's different between SM 1.1.X
 and SM 2.0.

In SM 1.1.X, you create message filters. They are created for the account,
not for a mailbox. You create them on the account and they run automatically
on messages downloaded to the Inbox from your mail source.

You can *also* run the filter(s) on any other mailbox you choose, but this
 must be done manually.

 Best Regards,
the account is the mailbox. each account is different mailbox.

No.

say you have two accounts jsmi...@jerryrig.com and jsm...@jerryrig.com.
each has a sperate mailbox (or account).

Each has a separate Inbox, but each account can have as many mailboxes as
you wish to create.

I think you're confusing Inbox with mailbox.

I thought that filters only were taken into account for incoming mail,
not for mail already received, but I could be wrong.

I'm speaking from experience using SM 1.1.X, so there may be a difference
with 2.0. In 1.1.X, filters are run automatically on incoming mail, but
you can run filters on individual mailboxes as suggested.

The only difference between the SM 1 and SM filtering is in SM you have
to Name them yourself. In SM 1 they were already pre-named

You set them up on the inbox although you can chose a sub directory. to
 filter on.

There is a completely different filter setting for each mailbox. one set
of filter rules does not apply across mailboxes

Huh? I was able to create a filter and run it on any mailbox.
I have two separate mailboxes (accounts with my ISP. and the filter
rules are not mutually shared. I can look at mailbox for my main
account, and there are hundreds of rules. On my other account which is
primarily to catch spam. I can count the visible filters on less than my
 hands and toes.

each account or mailbox has it own set of filters.

I think you're using the term mailbox to mean Account. When you set
up your Account with your ISP, you will have an Inbox where your e-mail
is deposited. You can also create other mailboxes into which you can
transfer/copy your e-mail messages, all within that same Account.

Do you see how they are different?

When you create message filters on the Account, they will be run on the
Inbox for that Account automatically. If you want to run the filters on
other mailboxes, you can do that manually.

I can Unblock the file in file properties but it still won't open. The

I just saved a tax file .pdf from the IRS web page and it got the same

electric company, which wouldn't be surprising.

Is there a way to tell SM2 to stop blocking access to these downloaded

It was the website corrupting the file. All fixed today.

And it doesn't matter if the file is blocked in File properties, it
opens in the Adobe Reader and full blown Acrobat.

I'm still taken aback by all the ongoing arguments for form over
function going on in the bug thread...the new small buttons are clearly
NOT very functional, and the user being able to actually USE the
interface should be the only point of discussion here - not how it
looks or that someone considers the previous implementation ugly has
zero to do with it.

And blind is not the same as visually (or otherwise) impaired - I
myself suffer from cyclic iritis, and while my disease is presently
controlled and not particularly impacted, others are not as fortunate
and while not blind may yet require large text or presentations in order
to read or use an interface on a screen.

SM 2.01 not opening home page with browser startup

Hello,
I just updated SM to 2.01 and so far, most of my add-ons seem to be working
fine. However I have one issue: when I start a browser it's supposed to load
a set of tabs as my home page. Even though the setting is correct in
preferences this does not happen; instead, just one tab is loaded, and it is
a blank page. What could cause this, and what can I do to get the proper
startup behavior?

Thanks in advance.

Chatzilla charset

2009-12-12 Thread Ray_Net
i am still with SM 1.1.14 ... i have lurked into #testday but here in
belgium, the #testday worked during the night :-).
However, i have reached #testday using my prefered irc-client (named
pirch) and also using chatzilla.

Pirch work only with iso-8859-1.
Chatzilla works with any charset, so we can choice between urf-8 (the
default) and iso-8859-1.

When a utf-8 client read an utf-8 post or an iso-8859-1 post using
accentuated characters like some we can see here:

http://tlt.its.psu.edu/suggestions/international/bylanguage/french.html
all characters are readed OK.

When a iso-8859-1 client read an utf-8 post or an iso-8859-1 post using
accentuated characters ... all characters from iso-8859-1 are OK - but -

The accentuated characters from utf-8 are garbage.

I started SM-Chatzilla with the default utf-8.
I sent accentuated chars into an iso-8859-1 guy. Garbage = ok
I received accentuated chars from an iso-8859-1 guy. Perfect = ok
I received accentuated chars from an utf-8 guy. Perfect = ok

I changed the charset to iso-8859-1 in Chatzilla - Global - Clicked

I sent accentuated chars into an iso-8859-1 guy. garbage = ok
I received accentuated chars from an iso-8859-1 guy. Perfect = ok
I received accentuated chars from an utf-8 guy. Garbage = NOT OK

I am now in a status where i write in utf-8 and read in iso-8859-1.

The only way to correct this status is to stop then start Chatzilla.

I have no idea about how to permit the developper of SM to test and
reproduce what i am talking about ...

In my preferences, the startup preference is for the browser to open the
group of tabs defined as the home page. If I click the Home button on the
toolbar these are all opened normally. But starting a new browser, or
opening a link from within another program, does not open that link, or the
home page tabs. I also noticed just now, not sure if this has anything to do
with it, that the text in the status bar showing what's under a link I mouse
over has disappeared. I do still see it in the mail and news window, though.

The fact that you keep bringing this up is embarassing to all of the

You have, for a very long time, harrassed this list with similar posts.
Folks have tried their best to assist you (archives will show), but you
continue to blast back with these posts.

*Please* if you'd like help with SeaMonkey, limit your posts to a

Your continued attacks on developers, other users that try to assist
you, and the world in general just isn't working. If you persist then:
 1) people will simply killfile you and ignore any further posts from you

 Please see:

As for your repeated attacks on Robert Kaiser; I realize he needs no
defense here but I'll say my 2 cents:
Robert/Kairo is a lynchpin for this project and repeatedly gives his
time and effort to SeaMonkey. My guess is, that were it not for Robert's
efforts, SeaMonkey would pretty much be dead by now [1].

SeaMonkey 2.x, with perhaps the problems with *some* 1.1.18 profile
migration, and the form manager issue, is in my opinion probably the
best thing that has ever happened to SeaMonkey. And yes Virginia, I
still have my original Netscape floppy along with my original Netscape
 license.

So give it a rest folks; work with the
people/developers/user-testers/others that brought SeaMonkey 2.x to
life. Help resolve issues, file bug reports as you find them, and
perhaps most of all remember that this is mozilla.support.seamonkey.

 [1]
Before anyone chimes in about icons etc., I too have had my difference
of opinions with Robert, but I'll tell you what; I sincerely appreciate
his continued efforts, work, and promotion of SeaMonkey as well of the
excellent efforts of all SeaMonkey volunteers.

Problems with migrating addressbooks and folders from 1.1.18 to 2.0

2009-12-12 Thread John Boyle
To Robert Kaiser, Leonidas Jones, NoOp, Mark Hansen: Clean slate, new
thread. However, it does have to start with the suggestions of Robert
Kaiser. First, I reinstalled 2.0, it seems the profile and the bookmarks
were still there from my first attempt, which did not allow me to
migrate everything that had to do with addressbooks or even Local
Folders.

1.Your followup suggestion to do something with the 2.0 profile, so that
I could start over, I am afraid I cannot figure out where the info is to
either delete or whatever, so that I could get a clean install and start
over again! That is one continuing problem that I think I will just have
to do manually, by typing the addresses all over again, into the 2.0
addressbook! 2.Then I discovered, even after I set up the newsgroup
for Mozilla support.seamonkey, that I could not use that one in ver. 2.0
to enter any messages! NOW, that one I bet, is because I did not
activate something in 2.0, and, may have to do with the fact that 1.1.18
is still my default browser, even though the desktop ICON always brings
up 2.0! How do I correct that, please?3. Another point is, the
folders where incoming mail and newsgroups should be directed to, is
there such a thing anymore as Local Folders? If so, how do I activate
it? :-\

all of the time, and I can no longer use search engines like Google or
Yahoo, because any link I click opens 3 tabs to realtor sites.

I haven't downloaded anything new other than Firefox, and the newest
version of SeaMonkey and Flash after YouTube quit working.

Anybody know of a good program to search and rid my computer of
hijackers? I treid Ad-Aware, but after searching for almost an hour, it
deleted Yahelite, and a bunch of other stuff that weren't even trojans.

The ads still pop up and nothing can seem to detect it.

Apply filter when: drop box.

Can anyone direct me to the help on this?

The reason is, I need to figure out the reason that when I click on Run
Filters on Folder nothing happens and I believe the answer may be
within this area, do you not think?

I use Match any of
the following and set to have the messages moved to the appropriate folder.

I Am finding that for messages already in folders, even in the main
folder, when I click on Tools -Run Filters on Folder nothing
happens, even if I open Message Filter and run individual filters, that
does not work to forward messages to the correct folder.

I think you're confusing Inbox with mailbox.

in one account/Mailbox I have only the standard 5 sub directories or
subfolders.

in the other not counting the five standard. Inbox, template, Drafts,
Trash and junk.

I have 61 others. I have filters rules for all.

accou...@isp.com below it is starts out with inbox the follow the rest.
the acco...@isp.com
starts out with inbox and the rest follows.

The filter rules are completely apart and separate between the two in-boxes

the account name(s) are the mailboxes. and inbox and the other are
directories of the mailbox

Installed it but the time is set up in military time. 24Hr clock.
would prefer 12:00 Clock. no preference setting to use 12HR clock.

I just installed it and when choosing the time it's a 24 hr clock but
the actual event time shows as a 12 hr clock and gives me both AM and PM.

That what I am running into. one is set one way the other another way.
Both should be the same and their should be a setting to choose one or
the other. I have two calendar widgets both Yahoo widgets one strictly
for yahoo calendar and one for Google calendar. both have settings for
12/24hr time. The yahoo calendar has option already set up for various
categories. One for Google you can create your own categories. both
colored. I may remove the lightning add-on. it rather crude at best.

what youtube movie. I just saw some Youtube movies after I updated to

As NoOp pointed out, you are asking in the wrong newsgroup. There is a
support newsgroup for Lightning on this server:

mozilla.support.calendar

You may get an answer there as how to fix it. I don't find it a big
problem, as I only see 24 hour time when settings an event, the actual
display is AM/PM, but maybe the folks there have an easy answer.

Really!? What then? This is in the extreme...I have had to give
up on my favorite browser! What could possibly be doing this?

Have you tested it by allowing cookies and seeing if the slowdown goes
away?

Lee

Yes, now I have, and no, it makes no difference. I've tried lots of
different things like using the default profile, safe mode, making a new
profile, played around with various cookie settings, nothing seems to help.
