Re: Extension on Dual Boot system

Last Sunday evening, I deliberately booted into my Win7 system and started up SeaMonkey to give it a chance to download any System and AV updates. Then I went looking, my SM was plain vanilla installation, so I went to addons.mozilla.org (or whatever the site is) and installed about a half dozen extensions like AdBlockPlus, BeeFree, Display mail route, Ghostery and KaiRo.at Mandelbrot (whatever this does???). The installations all went without a problem, so on Monday, when I booted into my Linux SeaMonkey, I was expecting to have to install the same extensions, but no, they were showing up there in my Linux SM already. At first I thought What the heck, but then I thought the Win7 SM extensions would have been installed in the plug-ins folder {or whatever} of my SM profile (which is, naturally, on a Win7 drive) and my Linux SM uses the same profile, and, it would seem, the same plug-ins folder {or whatever} of my SM profile (which is, naturally, on a Win7 drive because Linux can see Windows drives but Windows cannot see Linux mount points.). But isn't the code words used (whatever) for Windows going to be different to the code words used for Linux (whatever)?? Hi Daniel, I have installed WINxp and Ubuntu 10.04 and boot into the one or other (no WINE .. the Laptop hasn't enough resources). Under WIN I have all FX/TB/SM installed on C:, the profiles are located at D:; I separated the mail folders out of the profile dir, so I can use the mail stack from any of my profile definitions. (Good also to make the backup of the messages easier!). The extensions are loaded into the individual profiles as normal. Under Ubuntu I access the (D:) partition as /media/wData/ for the profiles. And --as you described-- you have direct access to the extensions and also to the mail folders. This is possible as long as you don't have extensions with specific code for WIN (like .DLL included) or Linux (I'm using 'Thunderbird Indicator 1.1 to get 'Notify OSD black bubbles' which will fail in the WIN, but not a problem). Some extensions may have data files they r/w and for that it can fail ... as long as they don't make provision for that. (With ReminderFox we do that after first file access we remember the WIN/Linux notation). Hope it helps, if you need more details about the installations, no problem .. Günter http://www.reminderfox.org http://www.reminderfox.org/documentation-german Gunter, thank you for confirming my situation.nice to know I'm not the only one to notice this situation. DOM inspector?
On or about 2/13/2011 I received an automatic update for the DOM inspector. Several days ago I needed to do a system restore to 2/13 and now I don't know if that DOM update is still installed or was wiped out. How do I check on the currency status of my DOM inspector? and How would I reinstall the update if needed? System is 64 bit WIN 7 ultimate. Please help us testing the Windows installers, Mac disk images and Linux packages, all available in 25 languages including US English. The packages are available in the linux-i686, mac, and win32 subdirectories of http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/nightly/2.0.12-candidates/build1/ Once again, the linux-x86_64 build is NOT OFFICIAL and NOT ENDORSED. It will be listed as contributed build even if it was technically created by our build system, and it will be treated in no other way than usual contributed builds. In other words, it's just an experiment. Please use the builds for any usage patterns you can think of, possibly also doing a https://litmus.mozilla.org/run_tests.cgi?test_run_id=7 smoketest run on them. I know that Litmus run isn't perfect, but it's the best we have right now. Localizers, please test the builds in your locale, any updates can be taken with further sign-offs (in the new tool) for 2.0.13 and future updates. If no problems come up in testing those builds, they will probably go live as the official 2.0.12 on February 8, in sync with Firefox and Thunderbird updates that will fix the same set of security issues. The list of bugs fixed in this update contains 29 public reports thus far, 27 security issues are currently hidden and only to be disclosed upon release of our updates. Bookmarks in 2.1b2
I recently installed a copy of the new beta - 2.1b2. Works nicely, but I've hit a small problem. I made a backup of my profile and mail before installing the beta, so I do have some options, but I let the beta use my exisiting profile. A couple of days ago, I had to fire up Seamonkey 2.1.11 to check whether the security settings for the mail client were listed in the same way. When I returned to the 2.1 beta, everything seemed ok - my email account was as it should be. However, when I started the browser, I hit a problem. No bookmarks were found. Looking through ~/.mozilla/seamonkey/.profile, I don't see what method is now being used to store bookmarks. The original bookmarks.html is still there, and readable, but the beta simple doesn't see it. Is there some way to make it re-import the bookmarks? Or is there some way to reset it so that it does a full check when started? I can restore the backup, but it is now a week or more old, so it will not be as complete as I would like. Creating a fresh profile would leave me with the problem of reistating all the usernam/password combinations that I had stored in my profile, so I'd also rather avoid that option. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=324366. It was dicsussed on this newsgroup just last week. I followed the newsgroup for years, starting with Netscape, but SM got so good, I rarely had a problem to fix; for the same reason, I rarely could help others. So, I dive in only when I have a problem. By the way, please put a blank space after the -- in your signature. Per RFC 3676, the line before the signature in a newsgroup message should be -- (dash-dash-space). Who knew? Seems like a non-visible character is an odd choice - must be some legacy reason behind it. Anyway, from the bug report I learned it's not a bug anymore, it's an unsupported feature because the service has been shut off. That explains why it used to work and now it doesn't. So, no more broken reports from here. I thought it was a good idea, but maybe SM is so good now, it's not needed. Flyguy, check out Help-about Seamonkey. In the Build Identify does it mention Firefox at all?? By including the word Firefox in the BI, sites that Browser sniff are fooled into thinking you are using FF not SeaMonkey, so the web site presents a page that SM can display. Yep, it's there Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.16) Gecko/20101123 Firefox/3.0 Lightning/1.0b1 SeaMonkey/2.0.11 Rather than trying to fix the web, the SM developers have decided to brake SM, IMHO, of course. I'm not disappointed I can't report broken websites anymore. I did it to help the developers, and since they've decided it doesn't have enough value to continue it, ending it was the best thing to do. SM really does a good job. Mostly, if the website is broken for SM, it's also broken for IE7, my secondary browser. Most of the other breaks turn out to be caused by my Minimum font size setting. I sometimes wish for a quick way to toggle that off/on. I could select the Zoom only text instead of full pages, but I need full page zoom more often than the minimum font toggle. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
