Re: Modern Theme in 2.6.1

2011-12-26 Thread Sailfish
My bloviated meandering follows what Ed Mullen graced us with on
12/26/2011 6:45 PM:

On my Win 7 machine SM 2.6.1 is using the Modern Theme.

On my XP laptop 2.6.1 is using the Modern Theme.

On my wife's XP system SM 2.6.1 tells me the Modern Theme is
incompatible with 2.6.1.

Huh?

The install.rdf files in the modern xpi are identical.

Is it able to be removed via the Add-ons screen? If so, it may have some
how been manually installed from the previous version 2.6.0. You could
try removing it and restarting to see if the intrinsic 2.6.1 theme is
there afterward.

Which of these security flaws are present in SM 2.6.1

2011-12-26 Thread Rostyslaw Lewyckyj

In their 12/22/2011 security bulletin,
@RISK: The Consensus Security Vulnerability Alert Week 52 2011
SANS reports the following vulnerabilities in Mozilla FF & TB releases.
Since SM code is so closely related to the Moz. FF & TB codes,
which, if any, of these vulnerabilities are present in SM 2.6.1
and when are they due to be removed?

*

(3) HIGH: Mozilla Firefox Multiple Security Vulnerabilities
Affected: Firefox 8.x

Description: Mozilla has released patches for multiple security
vulnerabilities affecting its Firefox web browser. The vulnerabilities
include unspecified memory corruptions, an unspecified crash caused by
faulty regular expression handling in the YARR library, and a memory
corruption vulnerability within Mozilla's SVG implementation that can
be triggered within the DOMAttrModified event handle. It is likely that
some of these vulnerabilities could be exploited in order to execute
code on a target's machine. To do so, an attacker would have to entice
a target to view a malicious web page.

SeaMonkey 2.6.1 Release -- New Features and Fixes

2011-12-26 Thread Justin Wood (Callek)
The SeaMonkey project is proud to present SeaMonkey 2.6.1: The new major
release of the all-in-one Internet suite is available for download now!
Building on the same Mozilla platform as the newest Firefox release, it
delivers the latest developments in web technologies such as HTML5,
hardware acceleration and improved JavaScript speed.

SeaMonkey 2.6.1 is available in 24 languages, for Windows, Mac OS X and
Linux.

NOTE: This release will only be offered via manual "Check For Updates"
or our website until sometime shortly after the Christmas Holiday. We
acknowledge how hectic this time of year is, and do not wish to disturb
you with updates until you are ready!

Most notably, this release features for the first time:

Added support for the HTML5 "context menu" feature (contextmenu
attribute)

Print Preview is now available in Composer
About SeaMonkey (about:) shows the update channel now
Added Type Inference, significantly improving JavaScript performance
Added support for querying Do Not Track status via JavaScript
Added support for font-stretch
Improved support for text-overflow
Improved standards support for HTML5, MathML, and CSS
Fixed several stability issues

For a more complete list of major changes in SeaMonkey 2.6.1, see the
What's New in SeaMonkey 2.6.1 section of the Release Notes, which also
contain a list of known issues and answers to frequently asked
questions. For a more general overview of the SeaMonkey project (and
screen shots!), visit www.seamonkey-project.org.

Given that you are using SeaMonkey to post here via NNTP:
Search Subject or Address - enter 2.6.1
and let us know what you find. After all that's what I'd do to answer
your question.

Which is what I did and found nothing announcing the availability of SM

Hence, you found your answer. Nope, it wasn't announced here or on the
dev group, only on RSS.

For the record, I found my problem with my attempt at announcing 2.6.1

I did an "Edit as new" for an old announcement, that included all the
proper newsgroups, however I also sent it from an account that is only
e-mail :/

And my SeaMonkey for some reason didn't warn me of that (I recall it
used to)...

I'll have to investigate in the future to try and figure out why it
didn't warn and get a bug on file, if one already isn't present. Eitehr
way, I'm re-sending in a short time from now.

enough.

Having less users have the update makes it less time-critical, and
less 'really weird' interactions with the core product.

I will be turning it back on within the next few days, and this
holiday coupled with Firefox's choice here is why I chose to do it. I
acknowledge that not everyone approves of the choice, but I felt it
the lesser of two evils. (the other evil being exposing all SeaMonkey
users to a potential major issue that Firefox is either not yet aware
of or not yet able to address as fast).

Fair enough. I have commented before on my view of
the Firefox "Frequent release" schedule, and reiterating
that point here, relevant though it clearly is, would
almost certainly accomplish nothing.

Given that you are using SeaMonkey to post here via NNTP:
Search Subject or Address - enter 2.6.1

Having less users have the update makes it less time-critical, and less 'really
weird' interactions with the core product.

I will be turning it back on within the next few days, and this holiday coupled
with Firefox's choice here is why I chose to do it. I acknowledge that not
everyone approves of the choice, but I felt it the lesser of two evils. (the
other evil being exposing all SeaMonkey users to a potential major issue that
Firefox is either not yet aware of or not yet able to address as fast).

Fair enough. I have commented before on my view of
the Firefox "Frequent release" schedule, and reiterating
that point here, relevant though it clearly is, would
almost certainly accomplish nothing.

With respect, I think that decision was flawed.
User have the option, via :

Edit/Prerences/Advanced/Software installation/Seamonkey/Automatically check for

to specifically indicate whether or not they are prepared to
be "[surprised] with an update during this busy holiday season

that I was not, but still wanted to be automatically informed that
the update is available. To offer users this degree of granularity,
and then to unilaterally trump it because the powers that be did
not want to "[surprise] users with an update [...] when they did
nothing other than running the browser" makes a mockery of the
granularity offered.

Ralph's answer with disable the ssl cache permanently. However, if you
simply want to clear the cach after visiting a site (bank account for

Tab behavior in mail is governed in the browser settings AFAIK.

Edit => Preferences => Browswer => Tabbed Browsing => Check the first

Cliff, I think there was a change in the way SM did things in version
2.1, so, if I were you, I'd update from your current V 2.0.14 to V 2.1
and then update from V 2.1 to V 2.4.1 or even to the just released V 2,6,1.

Install 2.1 into a different location to your current version, and it
will create a copy of your profile, then you can install V 2.4.1 (or
2.6.1) over the top of this V 2.x.1 (and then you can uninstall your V
2.0.14, but keep the profile - always good to have a back-up).

Report back here if you have any problems.

Let us know how you go DoctorBill.

AlrightI have 2.1, 2.4 and 2.6 downloaded on my memory stick.

I know where 1.1's profile files are - everything I want to keep is
there. I backed it up to a memory stick.

Are ALL the versions of SeaMonkey going to be installed on
C:\Documents and Settings\DoctorBill\Application
Data\Mozilla\Seamonkey\Profiles ?

I would like to be able to find them ALL (1.1, 2.0, 2.1, then 2.4 and
2.6) when the Feces hits the fan (as it were and if it does).

I realize that to all you expurts this probably seems silly and

The relevance is that in any support forum, it may be considered
beneficial that the indication that things work and/or don't work based

Google's let is snow and SeaMonkey

2011-12-26 Thread Desiree
How come Google's "let it snow" doesn't work on SeaMonkey unless I use User Agent extension to fake Chrome 18 as the user
agent? It works on Fx4.01 but not fully like it does on Iron 15. Seems it should work on SM without a need to fake User
Agent. Even with faking the user agent on SM it doesn't work fully like on Iron where the snow completely fills the screen
and I can then write a message with my mouse. On Fx 4 and SM 2.5, the snow doesn't ever full fill the screen. It has trouble
covering the images fully. Maybe it works right on the latest SM version which I haven't installed because User Agent
extension won't work on it.

That option is in about:config

1. Type about:config into the Location Bar (address bar) and press Enter.
2. Scroll down and look for the preference named "browser.cache.disk_cache_ssl"
The values have the following meanings
 • true -- Cache to disk content retrieved by SSL.
 • false -- Don't cache to disk content retrieved by SSL.
3. Double-click the preference to change the value back and forth between
true and false

Yes, for the most part.
