If the message arrives there via the JMC feature, it's purged on

have several incoming mail filters that redirect messages from unwelcome
senders to the Junk folder, marking them as read and as junk. The
filters work, but Junk doesn't purge them after a week.

Anyone else notice this?

Paul, I have my SeaMonkey set up to move Junk messages straight to
Trash, which then gets emptied when I close SM, so I've never noticed
your problem.

Thanks.

I have mine set this way to allow time for me to look for false
positives. Even after years of training, it occasionally makes mistakes
with new senders.

I can relate, Paul, as the first folder I check-out is Trash, looking
for any false positives as well! :-(

I've noticed that when typing into my address bar that it now takes
around 2-3 seconds before autocomplete populates anything. It used to
be instant. I thought maybe it was machine specific but it happens
both at home and on my work box. Some Google searches say it *could*
be a corrupted places.sqlite. But on two machines? Hm, not buying that
one. places.sqlite on my home box is only 51MB which I don't feel is
too huge. I have History set to 180 days. But then again, I've had it
set to 180 days for close to a decade. Anyone have any ideas?

Even whilst reading your post, before I got to your mentioning of
places.sqlite, I was thinking it could be the problem as it gets sooo
big now-a-days, that it could be remembering squillions of addresses, so
taking time to search through them.

Does anyone know if there is any way to limit the max size of
places.sqlite??

I use Foxit Reader. When it installs it asks whether or not you want to

Yes. It's somehow linked to this one:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=970456

but IDR how. All the bugs about the autocomplete are officially under
Thunderbird, and the list is extensive.

One of them is definitely

~~~ something something slow autocomplete something ~~~
but great minds DO NOT think alike when it comes to bug naming and tracking.
I think mine makes sense;
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=972690
but I got linked to 970456.
Anyway there is a bug about autocomplete being slow, or stalling.  Try
the search box on the Bug pages and maybe you can find it and join/vote.
FINALLY got my question answered (I asked it about two years ago here
and never got a valid answer).  The partial solution is in this link:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2234277
What's missing is that after you've updated the
seamonkey-mozilla-build.desktop file, you have to somehow force the mime
relationships to be rebuilt.  The OP of that thread said he rebooted
several times and it magically showed up, but that's not it.
Somehow you have to force the mime-relationships to be rebuilt. I
discovered it by accident when I uninstalled LibreOffice 4.2.5 so I
could install LibreOffice 4.3.0.  Once the installation was complete,
Seamonkey magically showed up as a choice in the System Settings
Default Applications tool.
I wonder if there is a command that could force the rebuild of those
relationships?  Also, maybe Daniel Folkenshteyn (sp?) could update his
Ubuntuzilla scripts to take care of this automatically?
Found out how to force the mime-relationships to be rebuilt:
I use the PrefBar extension, which has a User Agent menulist.
Occasionally, I update the user agents in that menulist.
The advantage of PrefBar is that your user agent reverts back to the
again.  This is good in case you forget to restore the default value.
For a Site-specific spoof test, I just right-click on about:config's
Preference Name and add a new string
general.useragent.override.(site.domain, for-example google.com), and a
spoof UA string value of something like Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel
Mac OS X 10.9; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0. Just remember it's
in there, and it needs manual updating every time SeaMonkey is upgraded.
I don't use PrefBar (your Add-ons Manager page, and get Add-ons. You
may also need xSidebar), but it may be a better option if you need to
spoof a lot.
