Thank you for the link. I will try it when I next boot up the Debian 7 system (which, at present, happens about once a month, for a couple of hours, due to what is involved). Regarding the proverb that you have included above, I believe that the originator is wrong; if people do nothing, and allow evil, then they are not good; they are complicit in the evil. My simplified (and, I believe, more accurate) version of that proverb, is Evil flourishes where apathy prevails . Unfortunately, the version 2.29 of Seamonkey at the above link, appears to be not a working version. I downloaded and installed it, then found that a british english dictionary is not available (spellchecking for outgoing email, is useful, but, does not prevent the sending of badly spelled messages in the absence of a spellchecking dictionary) for the version 2.29, but, also found that the mail component would not either create a Sent messages folder, or, copy sent messages to that folder (which it would not create). I have separate outgoing (IMAP) and incoming (SMTP) servers, but, in trying different combinations of settings, including the settings that I have been successfully using in iceape on Debian 6, I could not get Seamonkey 2.29 mail, working on Debian 7 amd64 LXDE. So, after having spent about an hour, trying unsuccessfully to get the mail facility set up in Seamonkey 2.29, I have had to give up, and write it off as unusable. -- Bret Busby Armadale West Australia .. Re: strange new freeze in SM 2.29 - and 2.29.1
David H. Durgee wrote: I am seeing some sort of a strange freeze in SM 2.29 and am wondering if I am the only one and what can be done about it. This impacts both the browser window and the mail/news window on my system and seems to happen after several hours of use. I notice the freeze has occurred when, for example, I click on a browser tab and although the window title changes to reflect the new tab there is no change in the window content displayed! I see similar behavior at this point in the mail/news window in that clicking on a group or folder changes the window title but not the window content displayed. This is definitely a SM problem, as I can alt-tab or click on another application and behavior is normal. The only solution I have found thus far once the freeze manifests itself is to alt-F4 close both mail/news and browser with save and restart SM. In the latest case I noticed something that suggests it might be a problem updating the window contents, as when I restarted the browser the content of the current tab displayed what the window title reflected as opposed to what was being displayed when I closed the browser for the restart. In case this is system/build dependent, I am running Linux Mint 17 Qiana x64 here and my user agent string is: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0 SeaMonkey/2.29 I am still seeing this freeze with 2.29.1 here. I am a bit surprised that no one else is seeing this problem. It is not frequent, but it is very annoying when it does occur. Is there anything I can do to obtain further diagnostics about this issue? As noted in the original report, it is as if the windows displaying SM are no longer being updated except for the window titles. I can click on a slider in the news groups and drag it and then a click on a folder shows another folder name in the title. I can drag the slider back to its original position and click on the highlighted folder and get the proper title on the window, so it appears that the drag and clicks are effective but the results are not displayed. I likewise can click on tabs in the browser window and the window title will change to reflect this, but the contents of the tab at the point of the freeze remains displayed.
