Seamonkey still crashes when compacting IMAP folders

2015-04-26 Thread Mason83
Hello,

For a long time (going back at least 9 months to SM 2.29)
Seamonkey crashes when compacting IMAP folders.

Earlier reports:

  Date: Tue, 16 Dec 2014 18:21:56 +0100
Subject: SM 2.31 still crashing when compacting IMAP folders
  Message-ID: msudnvj89owo9w3jnz2dnuu7-iodn...@mozilla.org

  Date: Sat, 04 Oct 2014 10:21:29 +0200
Subject: SM 2.29.1 crashes when compating some IMAP folders
  Message-ID: i_mdnr52dq-um7ljnz2dnuu7-uwdn...@mozilla.org

Are you aware of an open bug?
(I'll open one, please dup if necessary.)

Not only is this a crasher, but it leaves the mailbox in
a corrupt state.

Could it be Seamonkey only? Or is Thunderbird also affected?

Regards.

DoctorBill I have your solution take a look at the following program

KeyPass2 here is the link: http://keepass.info/

I use the program to keep all my passwords, you only have to remember
one password to get into Keypass. From Keypass you can launch the
website and the have it enter the username and password. The database
file can be copied to another PC to use the password from another PC.
There is also a Android App so you can use it from a cell phone. Check
it out I have been using it for years.

I forgot to mention that there is also a portable version that you can
run from a flash drive. In addition to Windows, KeePass 2.x runs fine
under Mono, i.e. Linux, Mac OS X, BSD, etc.

Each mail account has a sub-directory for it's mail tree. Give the sub-directories

After you have created a mail tree, with a sub-directory for each mail account, and

Although my crash signature is different.

If you are not sure if your crash has the same origin as bug 1066998
then try the workaround for compacting folders as presented at the top
of that bug page - if it works for you then most probably it's the same.
I suspect there may be multiple crash signatures possible here.

It looks like the bug is too obscure/difficult for the developers to
deal with at the moment. But reading from bug 1066998 this should be
automatically fixed when Thunderbird 38 is released with the new cache
system, which apparently is to blame for these crashes. This would
 translate to SeaMonkey 2.35.

In about:config, I saw browser.cache.use_new_backend
which comes with the following comment:

Preference for switching the cache backend, can be changed
freely at runtime
0 - use the old (Darin's) cache
1 - use the new cache back-end (cache v2)

The default is 0, and I set it to 1.

I was then able to compact my 8 IMAP accounts without crashing.

BTW, how is Thunderbird 38 going to fix the problem?
By switching to the new cache back-end?

Regards.

Contrary to assertions by Oracle, a new version of Java cannot be
installed correctly without first removing any old versions.

1. Remove all prior versions of Java.

2. Reboot.

3. Download the current version of Java from http://www.java.com/en/.

4. Install the new version of Java.

5. Test the installation at
http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp.

My preference is: http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/

Ragarding both KeyPass2 and Password Safe: Are their password databases
local to my PC? Or are they on some external servers?

For Password Safe the database is password-protected and located here
on my pc:

C:\Users\RZ\Documents\My Safes\pwsafe.psafe3
and when we start Password Safe there is a zone asking which database
to open with the above string filled in the zone, but we can browse to
use another one.

Creating a New Safe *Password Safe* allows users to store all passwords
in a single safe (password database), or to create multiple databases
for different purposes (e.g., one for work, one for personal use). Each
database is independent and can be moved and used on different systems,
as long as the same version of *Password Safe* is installed. Databases
are encrypted with an encryption key derived from the master password
(the master password, however, is *not* kept in the database in any form).

However, *Password Safe* cannot protect against physical damage or loss
to your hard disk, laptop or PC. Therefore, we strongly recommend that
you make regular copies of your password database 'off-line', that is,
to another PC or disk. This can be done manually, or by using a cloud
storage service such as DropBox https://www.dropbox.com/home,
SugarSync https://www.sugarsync.com/or JungleDisk
https://www.jungledisk.com/, to name a few.

This would
translate to SeaMonkey 2.35.

in my situation Adobe was set to ASK

But that doesn't mean they are working as designed. Most of my sound

 ps auxw | grep flash

next time your sound device isn't responding properly, then kill -9 the

Here it's usually Seamonkey or Chrome that hung up.

Yes. But this is my guess only, one of the developers would need to
confirm if that is really going to fix the problem for SeaMonkey.
