Seamonkey still crashes when compacting IMAP folders
Hello, For a long time (going back at least 9 months to SM 2.29) Seamonkey crashes when compacting IMAP folders. Earlier reports: Date: Tue, 16 Dec 2014 18:21:56 +0100 Subject: SM 2.31 still crashing when compacting IMAP folders Message-ID: msudnvj89owo9w3jnz2dnuu7-iodn...@mozilla.org Date: Sat, 04 Oct 2014 10:21:29 +0200 Subject: SM 2.29.1 crashes when compating some IMAP folders Message-ID: i_mdnr52dq-um7ljnz2dnuu7-uwdn...@mozilla.org Are you aware of an open bug? (I'll open one, please dup if necessary.) Not only is this a crasher, but it leaves the mailbox in a corrupt state. Could it be Seamonkey only? Or is Thunderbird also affected? If you are not sure if your crash has the same origin as bug 1066998 then try the workaround for compacting folders as presented at the top of that bug page - if it works for you then most probably it's the same. I suspect there may be multiple crash signatures possible here. It looks like the bug is too obscure/difficult for the developers to deal with at the moment. But reading from bug 1066998 this should be automatically fixed when Thunderbird 38 is released with the new cache system, which apparently is to blame for these crashes. This would translate to SeaMonkey 2.35. In about:config, I saw browser.cache.use_new_backend which comes with the following comment: Preference for switching the cache backend, can be changed freely at runtime 0 - use the old (Darin's) cache 1 - use the new cache back-end (cache v2) The default is 0, and I set it to 1. I was then able to compact my 8 IMAP accounts without crashing. BTW, how is Thunderbird 38 going to fix the problem? By switching to the new cache back-end? Or are they on some external servers? For Password Safe the database is password-protected and located here on my pc: C:\Users\RZ\Documents\My Safes\pwsafe.psafe3 and when we start Password Safe there is a zone asking which database to open with the above string filled in the zone, but we can browse to use another one. Creating a New Safe *Password Safe* allows users to store all passwords in a single safe (password database), or to create multiple databases for different purposes (e.g., one for work, one for personal use). Each database is independent and can be moved and used on different systems, as long as the same version of *Password Safe* is installed. Databases are encrypted with an encryption key derived from the master password (the master password, however, is *not* kept in the database in any form). However, *Password Safe* cannot protect against physical damage or loss to your hard disk, laptop or PC. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you make regular copies of your password database 'off-line', that is, to another PC or disk. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

in the ADD -ON section you can have 3 options Ask Always Never you can toggle any one of these options when SM needs to activate an ad on - it looks at these options in my situation Adobe was set to ASK David E. Most of my sound problems come from *flash* not properly releasing the device when finished. ps auxw | grep flash next time your sound device isn't responding properly, then kill -9 the PID of the flash process. Here it's usually Seamonkey or Chrome that hung up. HTH not working as designed indeed... although this week has been a good week for sound issues... here's my output: spence@hpG6 ~ $ ps auxw | grep flash spence2778 0.0 0.0 17000 2084 pts/0S+ 20:40 0:00 grep --colour=auto flash sean today however, i'm listening to music and a video in Seamonkey, when i also need to pause and listen to a video in Chromium that doesn't work I'm not sure that is even possible. -- Real Users never know what they want, but they always know when your program doesn't deliver it. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Yes. But this is my guess only, one of the developers would need to confirm if that is really going to fix the problem for SeaMonkey. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
