Comfort. I started on Netscape around 1995 and got used to it - this is
the logical progression.
FireFox user interface doesn't work for me, it is awkward and not
comfortable - too "modern" and lacking features I use. Chrome is a
serious privacy breach. I don't want Google to have access to everything
I do.
I like the way SM is set up. I also like E-mail and Web integrated. It
is what I know and after 20 years of use is very comfortable.

That said I agree SM is dated and there doesn't seem to be a big enough
team on it anymore to keep it up to date and current.
I had to admit that my dear Eudora e-mail client was dead a while back
and I know the time is near here as well. Waiting for this "2.48" for
now to see what happens. I'm not ready to switch yet.

  I read again (and *carefully*) your message, and I think that this
style will better fit your needs:

 -(Cut)-
treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(folderNameCol, biffState-NewMail,
isServer-true)
{
font-weight: bold !important;
color: red !important;
}

treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(newMessages-true)
{
font-weight: bold !important;

}
 -(Cut)-

  The first part will change colour of account names with new messages,
the second part will change colour of the names of each folder with new
unread messages...

I'm starting to get a lot of sites that no longer work.
* Some of Google maps causes blank pages when I click for more or to
open a map.
* 1&1 site builder has buttons I can't click and features that don't work.
*I an online dosbox game simulator crashes constantly and will freeze if
I hit any sound controls.
* A lot of more complex sites that have "buttons" that I must click just
don't seem to work.
* Some fancy sites crash and just stop working till I reload SM.

All these examples work just fine in the latest FireFox.

I have tried disabling all my plug ins with no luck. Not sure what to do
to trouble shoot.

As a related note I'm sometimes unable to get anything on line - acts
like the net is down, but other browsers work. Closing and re-opening
works.

I'm on Win7 64b if that matters.

Is this a sign that SeaMonkey is getting dated or perhaps my ancient
install (been upgrading since before V 1.0) needs a serious clean out?

I'm working on a new site and have found a couple of Javascript scripts
that fail every now and then. Besides, the cookies script (required for
Europe) is permanently displayed at the bottom of all pages no matter if
you click accepting the cookies. In my opinion SM is faulty and obsolete.

I'm curious to know why you people use SM instead of FF.

  No, it has nothing to do with user.js
As already wrote WaltS48, you need to use addon Stylish, or you can add
these lines to file userChrome.css in your seamonkey_profile/chrome/
folder (but I personally recommend rather use this addon - it has many
advantages, including the fact that you do not have to restart seamonkey
after each change - style changes take effect immediately)...

  Simply install the addon Stylish, go to about:addons page, select new
"User Styles" section, click to "Write New Style" button, and copy here
the lines from my original message (and save it). From now, you should
see the name of the folder with the new messages in red...

Not sure if this is what you are looking for - see:
https://s18.postimg.org/5tegmcvrt/highlight.png
but if so you can easily put into userChrome.css:

/* Make unread messages red and bold */
treechildren:-moz-tree-cell-text(unread) {
color: red !important;
font-style: Bold; font-size: 15px !important;
}
/* Folder with unread/new messages */
treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(hasUnreadMessages-true)
{
  color: red !important;
font-style: Bold; font-size: 15px !important;
}

and tweak accordingly.

These might be of some help:

Try the Theme Font & Size Changer extension from
.
  It changes the fonts and font-sizes for everything EXCEPT the body of
messages and the display of Web pages. However, it does change
everything else, including menu bars, for both the browser and

Hmm. Interesting. Was this video using Flash or HTML5 on yours?

It was using Adobe Flash--I have version 23.0.0.205 -- as an aside my
laptop will not play the HTML5 for some reason, maybe it is to old in tooth.

   You would try something like this:

  -(Cut)-
treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(folderNameCol, biffState-NewMail,
isServer-true) {
font-weight: bold !important;
color: red !important;
}
  -(Cut)-

   (Stylish addon style)

I assumed that was to be appended to my existing user.js .
I haven't done anything with user.js in several years.
It had no apparent effect.
Did "> (Stylish addon style) " mean something I didn't catch?
Thank you for your time.

Re: Due to SM 2.40 bug (View selection source) ... I need an old FireFox, but which one ?

Thanks for all answers.
No I downloaded the "normal" 32bits version from
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/46.0.1/win32/en-US/
In the directory it's 2 files:

 Firefox Setup 46.0.1.exe

 42M 03-May-2016 18:57

Firefox Setup Stub 46.0.1.exe

 236K 03-May-2016 18:57

Must I install first the first one then the second one or just the first
one ?

Just the first one.

What is that "Setup Stub" ?

"Firefox Setup 46.0.1.exe" contains all the Firefox files to install.
It is a "stand-alone" installer.

"Firefox Setup Stub 46.0.1.exe" will download the files to install.
It needs an active Internet connection to install Firefox.
