Yes, add the user multiple times with different nicknames to the same or
different address book. Always worked for me.

I have multiple address books and many of my friends are members of more than
one book. So, same e-mail address with different nicknames.

In the situation with Eudora that I described earlier in this thread,
having a nickname for another nickname means that a change of E-mail
address has to be made only once, in the entry where the nickname is for
that address.

An analogy in Windows would be to have a shortcut to a file and then
another shortcut to the first shortcut, etc, etc. Any change to the
file would appear for all the shortcuts. This analogy is not perfect
since you could change the file through any of the shortcuts while
changing an E-mail address in Eudora requires finding the nickname entry
that contains the actual E-mail address.

That would be annoying if I have to update the contact more than once.
Ugh. Oh well, thanks all. :)

I like this idea. Too bad there's no addon/extension to do this in SM. :(

SeaMonkey only uses a single word as a nickname and each card can only
have a single nickname.

Yeah, I was hoping there was a way around this like a trick or an addon.
I guess not. :(

Hmmm. In Eudora Lite 3.0.6 (released about 16 years ago), you can have
an address book entry with a nickname for a real E-mail address. Then,
you can add another entry with a nickname but for an existing different
nickname.

For example, my Eudora address book has the following:
Allen @ Yahoo = Allen a...@yahoo.com
Allen and Christi = Allen @ Yahoo, christi @ home
christi @ home = Christi x...@yahoo.com
where the terms before the = are nicknames and the terms after the =
are either other nicknames or actual E-mail addresses (with the
local-part of each address munged. Note that the second entry refers
both to preceding and following entries. Also note that @ is an allowed
character within a nickname.

Is this not a capability of Thunderbird and SeaMonkey's mail-news
component?
