You work too hard.  You can have as many versions of SM and as many 
profiles as you wish.  You can have "old' versions of SM and "new" 
versions.  When you run an old version, chose the old profile.  When you

And if you sometime decide you like the new better than the old, then 
delete the old.

Back up your profile.

2.33 to 2.49.5 should be no problem but probably best going via 2.40 because 
the permissions api changed in 2.39. Just start 2.40 once. Then install 
2.49.5. If you are on Windows and want to use the x64 deinstall 2.40 first and 
install 2.49.5 x64. 2.49.5 to 2.53.1 should go smooth then too.

I have been using Seamonkey for a very long, long time over 15 years. I 
want to install the newest version but I am concerned I will screw it up 
and lose my emails. I am still on_*version 2.33.*__*1 *_because my 
automatic updates fail and I don't know why.


Is there a step by step manual or written process I can find or buy 
before I attempt this upgrade? I am still on Windows 7, 64 bit.


Any help would be greatly appreciated and I am willing to pay for 
someone's time to help me with this upgrade. Its time I finally tackle 
this issue. I can't send to newsgroups either and I do not know why.

We have been advised that, if you are trying to install the x64 version
of 2.49.5, you must first remove the x32 version (only version) of 2.49.4.


Now that you have tried installing 2.49.5 x64, you must first uninstall
it before installing 2.49.5 x32.

Since something has to be uninstalled, I would uninstall BOTH 2.49.4 x32
and 2.49.5 x64.  Then reinstall 2.49.5 x64, which will use you old
profile.  If things are strange, however, restore your profile from the
saved version.  I installed 2.49.5 x64 and did not have to do anything
with my profile from 2.49.4 x32.

We have been advised that, if you are trying to install the x64 version
of 2.49.5, you must first remove the x32 version (only version) of 2.49.4.



In addition, updating Seamonkey does not currently work - you have to 
install the new version instead.  What I don't understand here is those 
symptoms you report with 2.49.4, I'm still using that version without 
any problems.  Is any particular website triggering this?
