Once someone writes code to do so. The actual backend for building and
querying the index do exist in SeaMonkey 2.0, but there's no UI to use
it (and building the index is turned off). Even an add-on should be able
to make use of it, so feel free to experiment with building one if you can!

Thank you that is very helpful.
So it sounds like the hooks are there, just not enough manpower to
implement it and no definitive plans to do so yet.

As for me codding/experimenting. I'm a hardware designer. Last time I
let a software person work on my hardware I had a smoked laptop and JTAG
adapter. You don't even what to know what happens if you try to unleash
a hardware person on software ;-)

Rule #16387 of engineering. Never let a hardware developer write code,
especially if they think they can.

I don't see anything like that yet in SM2.x. Are there plans to pull those
search capabilities into a future version of SM? When? Are there good e-mail
search enhancements plug ins out for SM 2.x that I should look at?

One of the biggest things keeping my from finally ditching Eudora as my
primary e-mail source for SM is the amazing search capabilities in Eudora
verses the lacking search abilities in SM and Thunderbird 2.x (I have no
experience with Thunderbird 3.x). I was holding out for Eudora 8.x but
three years into the project they are still don't have a 1.0 release. Given
this I'm wondering if Seamonkey will have any relief in sight.

I haven't used the Advanced options available, if you click the button next to
the regular search box, if you have tried it, what is not available that you are
looking for?

The Advanced options tab is very very limited and very very slow.
Those features have not changed since SM1.x days and are similar to
thunderbird 2.x. Thunderbird 3 touted a totally redesigned and improved
search capability. I have not yet been able to try them.

I am looking for more complex search with more control over multiple
keywords, folders searched, relevance, areas of e-mail to search etc.
Eudora had all this ability, seamonkey does not. when your looking
though over 10 years of e-mail from several addresses and companies the
existing tools are not complex enough for me right now.

Looking here
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/features/#tabs-search
and other places I have looked makes it look like Thunderbird has some
more advanced features they rolled in.
