In the SeaMonkey prefs, I found that the helper app for this file type was set to Use VLC Web plugin (in SeaMonkey). I changed it to Use VLC.asf (default) and reloaded the URL. This launched the freestanding player, and after about 30 seconds (as advertised at the NASA site), the stream began playing. However, after several minutes VLC popped up an error message saying: Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'mms://a1446.l1856959445.c18569.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/1446/18569/v0001/reflector:59445'. Check the log for details. Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'mms://a645.l1856932644.c18569.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/645/18569/v0001/reflector:32644'. Check the log for details. Since the URL was still parked in the SM location bar, I just closed VLC and went back and hit Enter to reload it. Didn't help -- VLC immediately generated the same error message. Must be a problem at the source. And so far, the site loads and runs fine in FF 11, IE 9 32bit, SlimBrowser 6.00.081 et al. I suggest waiting a short time for the site queue to connect you, and if nothing happens inside of say one minute max, it may well be that your local system is poorly configured or your ISP is locking that site out of the DNS. There's also the probability that the site itself is very busy server wise, as concurrent connections are somewhat few. For example: the wmv on this site: http://www.ifactorystream.eu/wmtest.html Played fine in Chromium. But in FF, SM, and Opera I only got a black window. I then reinstalled an mplayer package (again linux), reloaded FF and SM, and now the video plays just fine in FF, SM, and Opera.
