Seriously? You are apparently one of those noobs, blaming others for
stupid mistakes they make without realizing what they are doing.

Still need a specification, or do you have it now?

Why did you download it (whatever IT may be) in the first place when you
now want to delete IT.
What harm could IT do, when you have only downloaded it?

Me thinks you have no idea what you are talking about and believing a
clearly fake story.

I know Avira for a long time (and did use it also):
I believe he must have got it from a fake source - malware disguising as Avira.

This is not unusual nowadays, so always check your download sources!

Just my 2cc, Wolfgang

P.S: Having said that I also must note that nowadays "Windows Defender"
delivered with Windows 10 (or the "Security Essentials" for older
versions of MS Windows) is usually sufficient to protect your
computer as long as you trust MS somehow. Otherwise consider
switching away to a user friendly Linux distribution. From a
  trusted source, of course.

I wouldn't want to leave malware sitting around on my computer; as
long as it's on the disk there's the possibility it'll be run..

> Me thinks you have no idea what you are talking about

Sounds like a good policy to me. Download whatever, wait a week or
three, submit to virustotal _and only if clean_ then install & run
whatever.

> and believing a clearly fake story.

That the OPs' friend downloaded ransomware from Avira is doubtful..
that they downloaded something that claimed to be from Avira seems
plausible enough.

My experience with Avira has been the same as yours, Wolfgang. Sadly, I
think his source was a fake one, although it's been a long time since
I've used it.
