[Solved] Re: mailbox problems (ongoing)

Follow-up item...

In the process of shuffling between the truncated mailbox and backup
recoveries, I copied everything to separate folders, then re-indexed the
inbox. When I copied everything back into the inbox (and re-indexing),
things are all behaving correctly.

Although I have a handful of folders in my inbox, I'm doubtful that
those are contributing to the problem. Among other things, I've seen
zero problems with messages being deleted -- only messages in the inbox
whose send dates don't have October as the sending month.

I know that there are some (both Seamonkey and Thunderbird) that
advocate against using inbox folders, although I've done that for years,
on multiple accounts, and I've never had problems with doing so.

Although I'm curious as to why things are going missing in the way that
I've described, I'm content to know how to fix things, if they go wrong
again.

I noted before, it's not permanent storage.

I just had this happen again.

I again recovered from backups (and knowing what to do, it went quickly).

However, when I completed my work, I went to the properties of the
folder and clicked "Repair folder" to rebuild the index, and I had the
same thing happen, yet again -- all messages whose send dates are not
October (of whatever year) have disappeared.

I can recover from backups again, easily enough, but to me, I'm
wondering if routine maintenance of compressing folders is causing this
to happen.

I think I've seen this kind of thing happen before, where re-indexing
causes messages to disappear.

What can I do to keep this from happening again?
