But there is also the possibility that you have not been clear enough. *eg*

This belongs to eternal? 2 fails for 1 succeed? Or do you mean 2 other
newssevers are working correct and eternal fails?

But clearly you have problems with eternal despite of seemingly correct
settings. Here is what i would do in this case.

First identify the account which belongs to eternal by searching in the
prefs.js for eternal. In my case this would be mail.server.server4. Then
remove the account for eternal with Edit-Mail Newsgroups Account
Settings-Remove Account.

Close SM and delete all traces of eternal in the profile. Especially the
folder News/news.eternal-september.org and the files
News/news.eternal-september.org.msf and
News/newsrc-news.eternal-september.org. Look into prefs.js, if all
references to server? are gone.

Start SM, open the Password Manager, select 'Manage Stored Passwords'
and delete the entries for eternal if existent.

Then create a new account for eternal.

That replaces occurrences of 'SV' or 'Sv' with 'Re'. I am using the

Checked and it's there. I understand that there is no such preference
in about:config before it's created in user.js (or prefs.js)?

Not all Prefs are existing under about:config. But they are if there is
a deviation from the default value. I hope that 'deviation' is right for

Sorry for that. As it was both a question and possible feature request

Mhm. I see crosspostings very often in the groups of news.mozilla.org

Thanks.

Among other reasons, the fact that your posts are always

Regarding courteous, if there is a possibility to tease people while

would be hard for me not to do so.

Re: SM 2.00 / 2.01 mail client drag and drop bug

2010-01-16 Thread Hartmut Figge
User:

Does anyone know if the SM 2.00 / 2.01 mail client drag and drop bug has been
reported and will be fixed anytime soon? Quite often when an e-mail is dragged
from the top right header pane to the folder pane, the drag and drop
operational
fails. When this occurs, the drag and drop has to be repeated TWICE, i.e. only
on the 3rd time will the drag and drop actually work. It appears that when a
mail is dragged for the FIRST TIME, there is only a very short period before
the
drop will fail, so to make it work the first time, the mail has to be quickly
dropped into a folder as soon as possible.

I'm used to use the right-mouse-context menu if i wish to copy/move
mails or copy postings. No problems. Now i have tried it several times
your way, also without problems.

Let's wait, what others have to say. At the moment it looks to me like a
problem with your machine. ;)

Maybe an extension. If so, safe-mode would show.

I'm now on 2.02,and here's the problem.
After installing an extension

Which one? Which version? Or does this happen withe every extension?

when I restart Seamonkey, the tab bar is not displayed, despite
disabling 'Hide tab bar when only one is open'. I also can't create
new tabs, nor open any website. I again restart Seamonkey, and then
it works fine.

Weird, but extensions do sometimes weird things, especially when
overriding the compatibility. Or one extension may interfere with
another extension.

Or, if I've got both the browser and mail client open, I close the
browser window and then click a link in an email, again I get a new
window minus tab bar with the website open, but can't open new tabs.

Try disabling the new extension with the Add-on Manager.

Would be tedious with the information given. OK, let's forget it and

I discovered recently that SM2 has now also the feature to restore
windows/tabs on normal restarts or after chrashes (like firefox).
That's very nice because I usually have many windows and tabs open and it is
always much work to restore everything by hand on such occasions.

A nice feature, especially if you are using trunk. ;)

But this feature has also an unexpected behaviour (bug? ;-), the menubar
disappears on every restored window except the first one und I don't see any
possibility to get it back. FWIW I have this on the Linux version.

Hm. I'm using only tabs and not new windows, so i haven't seen this.
Have you looked into bugzilla if there is a related bug?

Yep, after any extension install.

Nice. :)

Do you have a file named extension.log in your profile?. If so, it could
contain information about the problem.

In case your profile is screwed up you should create a new one, switch

Never mind, I finally found the culprit myself.

:)

It was an old extension MonkeyMenu which provides a lot of additional
toolbar buttons for Seamonkey. Actually this was the only installed
extension and I used it only to get a button to clear the URL input line.

It is not unusual that strange effects originate from an extension.

This old thing is no longer maintained and I had already patched the version
compatibility to get it installed under SM 2.0.x. OTOH it worked and I did
not suspect it to have such strange side effects.

On trunk, if you have such an extension which you have fixed by yourself
that can happen with each new build. *g*

Well, i am writing this because you could look into MonkeyMenu,
examine what's going wrong, fix it and offer a version .j1 for those,
who like this extension. :)

Can you advise how using safe mode would make a difference in
isolating this problem? I do not have any add-ons or extensions
installed with SM 2 whatsoever.

Did you mention this fact already? ;)

I have always used SM 1.X and 2.X in its default original
configuration without installing additional components.

Safe-mode will not only test for broken extensions but also uses a new
profile. In short, one of the first step to examine oddities should
always be safe-mode.

But certainly you can ignore me. And i am now tired. Bye.

No XUL.mfl in my profile anymore and i haven't noticed a noticeable
 delay at startup. :)

You must have a very very fast machine then, as even I with a dual-core
machine notice my builds being slower in startup and more sluggish in
usage when I set those options.

Just tested. After a reboot the first start of SM2.1 lasts 9 seconds
without XUL.mfasl and 7 seconds with XUL.mfasl. After quitting the next
starts lasts about 2 seconds regardless of XUL.mfasl.

My machine is a Core 2 Duo E6750 with 4GB RAM. I am on Linux, therefore
the filename is XUL.mfasl and not XUL.mfl, but that shouldn't matter.
What could matter is, that i am using only a few extensions.
