Did it work both from X and from the text console?

Yes, this would be good. If it does not work from the console, please try
the procedure explained in http://en.opensuse.org/S2ram to find the best
options.

Ok, there is not much useful information for whitelisting in there :-(

So the procedure lined out in http://en.opensuse.org/S2ram will probably
get it going on the console, too. Unfortunately i have no idea how we could
whitelist this machine based on those DMI strings :-(

The WIFI issue is out of scope of s2ram, this is something that the wrappers
like pm-utils or the network system (NetworkManager etc.) must solve.

Since all other nx5000 variants (there are lots of different ways to write
"HP COMPAQ NX5000" in DMI strings ;-) are listed with "-p -m" (including the
one that i am using right now), i added yours with the same parameters.
I will retry mine with "-a 2", ISTR that this did not work some time ago,
so i'll need to investigate that.

Anyway, this machine is added in current CVS.

I for myself only recently found out that this one, although

This is a kernel bug, and i seem to remember that recent upstream kernels
did get fixes for that kind of problem, but i'm not exactly sure which ones
and if all these problems should be fixed now. Probably it would be a good
idea to retry with a recent vanilla kernel and report to LKML if it still
fails.

Well, using the console options will make sure that you can also suspend from
the console :-)

I have added it like this:

/* Gergely Csepany <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> */
{ "MICRO-STAR INT'L CO.,LTD.",  "MS-1057",  "", "",
S3_BIOS|S3_MODE },

(yes, i deliberately misspelt your name, since UTF-8 in code often causes
 problems for people using not-utf-8-clean editors)

I actually found out, that i have a 0657AVU sitting on my desk :-)
It works fine with "-a 3" on 32bit, but on 64bit it needs "-a 1 -m".
So, just to make sure, i'd like you to try the following:

echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/acpi_video_flags
s2ram -f -a 1 -m

and test if that works for you, too. I really hope it does, since
the last thing i'd like to do is make the whitelist architecture
dependent :-)

Thanks,

I don't know what framework is used by debian, but you just need to change
the script that calls s2ram.

Yes, that works for me in both text console and X.

The only oddity is that, on resume, the letters "inu" appear on the
screen for a few seconds, but I guess the world can live with that.

Yes, that's expected. The reason is, that the POSTing of the card (which
turns the light back on) happens in kernel space. The card is afterwards
in "mode 3", aka. plain VGA mode. Then the low level resume code writes
some debug characters into the VGA buffer (the yellow "inu" that you are
seeing). Then the resume returns to userspace, and in userspace we reset
the VESA mode we had before suspend. This then probably restores the
framebuffer and the "inu" is gone.
Before, we would POST and restore the VESA mode in the kernel, and the
VESA restore was done immediately after POST, so you did not see those
debugging characters, but that does not work on 64bit for some yet unknown
to me reason.
Functionally, both methods _should_ be the same...

(and just for those wondering about "inu", it is actually "Linu", and
each character is written to the VGA buffer at a different stage of resume.
The "L" is actually written before POSTing the card, and the POST probably
just clears the buffer, so you never see it, and end up with "inu" :-)

Thanks for testing :-)

That's true, I just tried both to confirm:

1. switching on a text console (Alt+Ctrl+2):
s2ram -f works fine, wake-up as well.

2. I a X-Term window on GNOME desktop the same
s2ram -f woks.

Some additional info:
Power consumption is :
idle desktop84 W
s2ram   13 W(CPU-fan also stops)
after wake-up   79 W

The reduced power after wake-up is due to the fact, that my
PCI-TV-Card does not work any more (Hauppauge PVR150), but all other
things resume correctly, like:
harddisk
USB (tested with usbmsd device, mouse)
network (onboard NVIDIA)

So for me it is (almost) perfect.
Remark: the 'stand-by' and 'suspend' optins supplied by the Ubuntu
dektop in the shutdown menue are useless. Wake-up is performed by 1
short push on the power-button of the PC/Power Supply.

Ingo

Ok, so i added this one to the Whitelist.

Ok, so this is a driver issue with the pvr150 and should be reported
to the driver authors. Maybe just unloading the driver before suspend
and reloading it after resume helps.

It's hard to imagine how the stand-by option can not work, since you
need no additional workaround. Maybe you just need to enable it somewhere.
I have no idea how to do that on ubuntu, though, maybe it is just a bug
that you should report.

Thanks for testing!

Ok, which type of framebuffer are you using?

> But if I use -a1, it resumes grate!

The framebuffer is also restored correctly if you try it from the
text console? Or does only X restore it correctly? If this is the
case, could you try "s2ram -f -a1 -m"?

I guess you are using a 64bit distribution?

Yes, but does it also work on the text console? (i doubt it, and i'd guess
that you need to add "-f -p -m" to the s2ram options. Look at
http://en.opensuse.org/S2ram to find out how to get the best options for
your machine.

I'm not sure if Mandriva has already switched to pm-utils, or if they
are still using the old powersaved, so i cannot really tell you where
to configure this. Best ask on a Mandriva related list.

It work. See below:
-
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ s2ram -f -p -m
Switching from vt7 to vt1
Calling get_mode
Calling do_post
Calling INT 0x15 (F000:F859)
 EAX is 10005F00
Leaving interrupt call.
Calling INT 0x10 (C000:0014)
 EAX is 3
Leaving interrupt call.
Calling set_vbe_mode
switching back to vt7

Yes that's right. Powersave doesn't work properly. I decided to rewrite HAL
config file in /usr/lib64/hal/scripts/linux like
hal-system-power-hibernate-linux and hal-system-power-suspend-linux. I now
use s2utils. All s2utils work fine.

[Suspend-devel] s2ram: add tecra8100 to whitelist

This machine can be identified by:
sys_vendor   = "TOSHIBA"
sys_product  = "TECRA8100"
sys_version  = "PT810C-11C52"
bios_version = "Version 2.50"

it only works properly with -a 2 or adding acpi_sleep=s3_mode (same thing)
to grub's menu

I'm not subscribed to the list, so drop me a line in case something is

[Suspend-devel] It doesn't work :(

2007-07-19 Thread Daniel Lombraña González

Hi,

I'm on Ubuntu Feisty trying your software. There is one official package for
us and it's which I'm using. After trying everything on your web page
(s2ram) because my laptop is not recognize I can say that my nvidia GeForce
7400 is not working with s2ram (s2disk too). My laptop is identified by your
application as follows:

This machine can be identified by:
   sys_vendor   = "Sony Corporation"
   sys_product  = "VGN-SZ2M_B"
   sys_version  = "J001TPXH"
   bios_version = "R0083N0"

This laptop has two graphics cards: one intel and one nvidia. I have tried
to blacklisted the intel_agp and added the option NvAGP 1 to xorg.conf and
nothing happens except that I get a black TFT without text. When switch to
console (CTRL+ALT+F1) and the to X I can see the GDM login screen, but I
cannot type anythin. Additionally if I try to reboot the X with CTRL+ALT+DEL
everything hangs. I can say that just when I came from the suspend mode The
Num. Lock responds.

I don't know which are the next steps that I can done,

Thanks for your efforts,

Daniel

PD: The version of the package is 0.3~cvs20060928-6ubuntu3
