[Biofuel] compost test update
WOW! i just stirred my compost bucket today, and i must say...it smells like DIRT, and after i got done mixing it it got HOT! apparently i did it right, but i had to move it to a 20L trash bin a couple of weeks ago because i ran out of cardboard cartons. [Biofuel] compost test
i think my compost has been a marginal success by experienced standards, and a fantastic success by my own. it does in fact get warm (not hot, but hey its still a baby) and even though it got rained on, i pitched in a big basket of dead leaves, and it warmed up again in a few hours. its sort of a humid warm, like a barrow of lawn clippings in the sun, but i dont see any major problems other than the fact that it is such a small container (about 2ft. square and 1.5ft high). I think your paper box will decompose too. Perhaps a plasic box? Plop your leftovers in there too, eh? Just not meat and cheese or you'll meet new neighbours (raccoons). as far as the box composting, thats quite all right, i was kind of using the compost as a way to get rid of the box, yet avoid the dumpster, and there are a few pets in my home who contribute regularly as well, plus my insanely small pumpkin patch (3 plants), and my brand new carmencita (red castor) plants (also 3).
