It's rough Stuart :( Bidpay is really good for ccard payments if buyer does not mind using them. I don't know what to do myself, the payment I got WAS a bank account transfer and it still didn't do me any good. But you are correct, much more difficult to reverse a bank transfer.

[SWCollect] Fw: Help us evaluate eBay and receive $50 and an eBay pen for your efforts

2003-08-14 Thread ceforman
BWA-HA-HA-HA!

Take a look at this thing I just got, supposedly from eBay. I actually
filled part of it out, until I got to the question where they asked if I'd
be willing to use my real bank and credit card information when
participating in the survey. The instant I said no, they told me I didn't
fit the profile for the type of person they were looking for. Heh, no D! I
bet they weren't even really going to send me the pen! B-)

Dear eBay Member,

You have been selected to participate in a very important eBay online study,
which is being conducted by NetRaker Corporation on eBay's behalf.

The study involves completing 8 tasks on the eBay web site, including
buying and selling tasks, and answering questions about your experiences as
you go along. The estimated time to complete the study is between 45 and 120
minutes. In appreciation for your time and input, $50 and 2 eBay pens will
be sent to you within ten business days of completing the study.

During the study, you will be asked to purchase 2 items on eBay, and to
list an eBay pen for auction, even if you have never sold anything on eBay
before. Again, the pens will be sent to you within ten business days of
completing the study. One is to ship to the winning eBay bidder if the pen
successfully sold, and the other is for you to keep.

Since buying, paying, and selling will take place on the live eBay Web site
during the study, you should be prepared to use your eBay userid and
password to log into the site when prompted. If you have never sold items on
eBay, you will also be required to enter your credit card and bank account
information in order to list the eBay pen for sale. It will be useful to
have a check handy while completing the study, since the bank check routing
number will be required when listing an item for the first time.

Individual responses will be used for research purposes only and will remain
strictly confidential. The information you provide will be used in
accordance with the eBay Privacy Policy, which can be found at the following
URL: http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-priv.html.

Surely there is some recourse for the seller, yes?

No there is not. They have a "seller protection" plan but it only covers physical items that were sent with a minimum of delivery confirmation and in some cases need signature confirmation. NO VIRTUAL ITEMS OR SERVICES ARE COVERED. Not only that, if item was not delivered seller has no recourse. Items do get lost in the mail, if you offer insurance (which I always do) but the buyer does not want it they can then reverse the transaction if the item does not arrive. Bottom line, the only time a seller is "safe" from reversal is when an item is DELIVERED WITH SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION, ANY OTHER TRANSACTION COULD BE REVERSED. So never send out anything without insurance and sig confirmation if you want to be covered. Hell who knows what else they would require even if you DID all this :(

I went ahead and paid the assholes the $88. They basically stole it from me at gunpoint, I delivered the "goods" and had proof of it in ICQ records but paypal reversed it anyway and left me a negative $88 balance. They then pulled out the gun and told me if I did not "take care" of the negative $88 balance they would send a collection agency after me and ruin my credit rating, plus charge me "recovery fees" along with the $88. Fuck them, I will use alternatives whenever possible. Am afraid to file anything else, they have my personal info and accounts, they could do anything they want to me.

I love Humongous entertainment! Almost all of the sound and music for their
games was done by The 'Fatman and Team Fat' (the same group that gave us the
music for Wing Commander 1 +2, Ultima Underworld, and 7th Guest).

I doubt that anyone but Jim will get this (unless you're a Humongous fan as
well), but it's been an hour since I got this email, and I can't stop humming
'Welcome to the Zoo'!
To get an idea of the great fun of these games, say these lyrics as fast as you
can! :)

"S wipe of the windshield so you can see,
The elephant the monkey and the chimpanzze,
Canaries, Takairees, the bears are all hairy,
The cheetahs, cicatas, gorillas and gators,
The emu and the lama very similar to the dromedary,
the turtles and the tortises, the dolphins and the porpises,
Lice, mice, geese, moose--Welcome to the Zoo!"

(Is it weird that I'm secretly proud to have that memorized?)

Putt Putt and Freddi Fish are OK, but I vastly prefer Pajama Sam and Spy
Fox. The Spy Fox games almost seem more geared towards adults than children.

Also check out "Moop and Dreadly and the Treasure of Bing Bong Island", by
Hulabee Entertainment, the company that Ron Gilbert started after he left

They become trickier on all accounts (literally): I remember back when I
signed up, there was something about them charging $1 to your credit
card and when you received your credit card bill, you had to enter a
code given in the PayPal position to activate your account.

Back then that dollar was put into your PayPal account balance, now they
apparently keep it.

Neat, huh? 1000 sign-ups = $1000.

As I
mentioned in a previous post, I am planning on selling a bunch of stuff on Ebay.
In the process, I was trying to decide whether or not to upgrade my Paypal

doing so, I would lose some buyers, and I think this is a legitimate concern.
However, your story has given me pause. I have heard a whole bunch more of these

payments except for from a bank account, where the buyer would have much greater
difficulty in disputing the debit.

I hope
