I've attended some post pandemic downsized conferences at small hotels. They provide meeting rooms free with a group booking. Preferential rated and competitive catering for some meals. Any type of conference is their bread and butter, and there is a lot of competition, they need to fill the rooms. Also they have free wifi for zoom purposesJanice Sent from my Galaxy Original message From: Richard Cuff Date: 2024-01-08 8:30 p.m. (GMT-05:00) To: Discussion list for the Winter SWL Fest Subject: Re: [Swlfest] THE WINTER SWL FEST IS MOVING DATES ! That's a very good suggestion, Ed. Schools, also, might be suitable venues. I remember our initial NASWA Philly-area chapter meeting was in the North Penn High School cafeteria, where I first met Bob Brown, Bill Oliver, Bob Montgomery, and others from the Philly area.Hams on the list might be able to suggest some venues as well. I've spoken to the Marple-Newton ARC and one of the Philly ARCs that Saul Broudy belongs to -- I think both of them met in schools. Of course, those were evening activities. Some volunteer fire companies also rent out halls at a reasonable price -- I can think of several up here in the Lehigh Valley that do. There are some fraternal organizations up this way that also rent out halls. If such a place is suitable for a wedding reception it would be appropriate for us!RCOn Mon, Jan 8, 2024 at 8:22 PM Ed wrote: Rich and John, You may have already considered this idea, but some churches have decent event facilities that they sometimes rent out for much less than money than conventional conference venues charge. Since the SWLFest will be over on Saturday night (before Sunday, when the church will need their space back) this might be a good, low-cost option. If the church is very near a low-cost hotel and eateries, that would be ideal. Perhaps some folks on this email list know of a church like this in one of the geographic areas you mentioned, and which might be interested in doing this with us. The bottom line, obviously, is that with a likely smaller attendance than past SWLFests, we need a lower-cost venue (very near affordable lodging and dining) to keep ticket costs affordable. -Ed Cummings. Public transit access is also a variable in the mix. Once we have a sense of how many would be willing to participate in an in-person event, and what that event would look like, we'll then look at relevant hotels. What time slots are left? I can do a forum.if you like.Janice Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. I sure hope this isn’t a sign of some sort. This is the first time we’ve had to run this notice a third time. On popular demand, we extended the extra half day to this year from last. But we still have some open slots for forum presentations. If you’ve been holding back, now is the time. If you’ve always wanted to do this but never have, now is the time. John --- Once again, we invite one and all to be a part of the Winter SWL Fest! Edition 2019 will take place on February 28 - March 2 at the Doubletree Guest Suites in fashionable Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. This will be the 32nd such annual gathering and due to popular demand we have kept the extra half day, opening the event on Thursday afternoon and continuing through all of Friday and Saturday. Details and background info, as well as regular updates, are at . One of the centerpieces of the Fest weekend is our line-up of informative and entertaining forums. How do we get them? These excellent sessions are put together and presented by you and people just like you—people with a deep and abiding interest in radio and a willingness to share their experiences, knowledge and know how. So, how about it? Have you a topic that you think Fest participants will find interesting and would be willing to present? Tell us about it. As usual, your role will be to lead a one hour session forum. That means preparing about a half-hour presentation that leaves plenty of time for audience questions and interaction. It can be anything from a serious (or comic) lecture (or both) to a multimedia extravaganza. Your choice! And as a gesture of appreciation (and perhaps some measure of small compensation for your efforts), the Fest will comp your registration fee if your proposal is accepted by the Organizing Committee (which consists of Rich Cuff, yours truly and that Magic 8 Ball we found in Rich’s attic when looking for old Fest printed programs and giveaways. Hey… it worked last year!) We are seeking your help in fashioning a balanced and diverse line-up of topics and speakers. Make your suggestion/proposal to John Figliozzi at If you have any questions, we'll be happy to discuss them with you. And even if you've never led a forum before, don't hesitate. We've learned that people tend to unfairly and inaccurately minimize their own abilities. We know you'll be great...but you have to let us in on what you're thinking!
