you don't want to get shut out; there is no limit to the number of Zoom
participants.Start your process at the Winter SWL Fest

access the group reservation link for the hotel and also register for either
the in-person or the Zoom event. We apologize if you're seeing this announcement
in multiple places; we wanted to get the news out there as quickly as possible

I've attended some post pandemic downsized conferences at small hotels. They
provide meeting rooms free with a group booking. Preferential rated and
competitive catering for some meals. Any type of conference is their bread and
butter, and there is a lot of competition, they need to fill the rooms. Also
they have free wifi for zoom purposesJanice Sent from my Galaxy

DATES ! That's a very good suggestion, Ed.  Schools, also, might be
suitable venues.  I remember our initial NASWA Philly-area chapter meeting was
in the North Penn High School cafeteria, where I first met Bob Brown, Bill
Oliver, Bob Montgomery, and others from the Philly area.Hams on the list might
be able to suggest some venues as well.  I've spoken to the Marple-Newton ARC
and one of the Philly ARCs that Saul Broudy belongs to -- I think both of them
met in schools.  Of course, those were evening activities. Some volunteer fire
companies also rent out halls at a reasonable price -- I can think of several
up here in the Lehigh Valley that do.  There are some fraternal organizations
up this way that also rent out halls. If such a place is suitable for a wedding
reception it would be appropriate for us!RCOn Mon, Jan 8, 2024 at 8:22 PM Ed

Rich and John,
You may have already considered this idea, but some churches have decent
event facilities that they sometimes rent out for much less than money
than conventional conference venues charge.
Since the SWLFest will be over on Saturday night (before Sunday, when the
church will need their space back) this might be a good, low-cost
option.  If the church is very near a low-cost hotel and eateries,
that would be ideal.
Perhaps some folks on this email list know of a church like this in one
of the geographic areas you mentioned, and which might be interested in
doing this with us.
The bottom line, obviously, is that with a likely smaller attendance than
past SWLFests, we need a lower-cost venue (very near affordable lodging
and dining) to keep ticket costs affordable.

Hi Marc - We don't have a
specific location picked yet -- We expect it will be somewhere in the
northern Philadelphia suburbs, anywhere from Plymouth Meeting (to the
west, where it was for its most recent venue) to the northern suburbs
(e.g. Lansdale / Kulpsville) to the northeastern suburbs (e.g.
Bensalem).  Public transit access is also a variable in the
mix.
Once we have a sense of how many would be willing to participate in an
in-person event, and what that event would look like, we'll then look at
relevant hotels.
Watch this space for more details as we flesh things out.  Hosting a
hybrid Zoom / live event will be a new challenge for us.

Philly's Amtrak station is adjacent to Center City
Philadelphia.  Not a cheap neighborhood by any means.

Commuter rail from that location does exist to areas where we have
held the Fest in the past, though not next door to the hotels we've
used.  Some Festers in years past took the commuter rail to the
nearest station and either took a taxi or finagled a ride with
friends.

Sad indeed.  We can honor the memory of our late
friends in the SWLfest community by getting newer (and perhaps younger)
acquaintances to come to future SWLfests.  The SWLfest community
isn't sustainable unless we do this.
Over the past several years I've brought new people to every
SWLfest.  We can all try to do the same, and we'll be richer for
it.  Plus, our friends will appreciate our welcoming them into this
amazing community.

the 2020 Winter SWL Fest (First Notice!) One celebration is over
(Thanksgiving), so it’s time to turn our attention tothe next great
celebration.  No, not Hanukah.  No, not Christmas. The 33rd Annual Winter SWL
Fest!  Once again, we invite one and all to be a part of the Winter SWL
FestFebruary 27 - 29, 2020 at the Doubletree Guest Suites in fashionable
Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania.   Also again, due to popular demand, we have
kept the extra half day, opening the event on Thursday afternoon and continuing
through all of Friday and Saturday. Details and background info, as well as
regular updates, are and will be at .One of the centerpieces
of the Fest weekend is our line-up of informative and entertaining forums.  How
do we get them?  These excellent sessions are put together and presented by you
and people just like you—those inour wonderful obsession  with a deep and
abiding interest in radio and a willingness to share their experiences,
knowledge and know how.So, how about it?  Have you a topic that you think Fest
participants  will find interesting and would be willing to present?  Tell us
about it. Ifyou’ve already contacted us, chances are we have your e-mail on
file. However, chances are also that we don’t.  (I turned 66 this year, so don’t
you dare trust my memory!) Even if you have run something by us in the year
since Fest 32, please re-contact and remind us at this time just to make sure.
(Chip Arey and Mark Fahey… this doesn’t apply to you.)As usual, your role will
be to lead a one hour session forum.  That means  preparing about a half-hour
presentation that leaves plenty of time  for audience questions and
interaction.  It can be anything from a serious (or comic) lecture (or both) to
a multimedia extravaganza.Your choice! And as a gesture of appreciation (and
perhaps some measure of small  compensation for your efforts), the Fest will
comp your registration  fee if your proposal is accepted by the Organizing
Committee (which consists of Rich Cuff, yours truly and Geoff Peterson, the now
sadly outof work sidekick to Craig Ferguson on CBS’s Late Late Show. (It really
is a shame how he was just abandoned entirely by Craig when he departedthe
show.  If you can believe it, Geoff is just a skeleton of his former self.)  We

them with you. And even if you've never led a forum before, don't hesitate.

I sure hope this isn’t a sign of some sort.  This is the first time we’ve had
to run this notice a third time.  On popular demand, we extended the extra half
day to this year from last.  But we still have some open slots for forum

wanted to do this but never have, now is the time.
