[GTALUG] GPU advice needed

2024-03-30 Thread gs via talk
I don't think a $150 price premium is worth it for negligible
performance and cooling gains due to slight core/memory clock differences,

I consider Memory Express to have better customer service compared to CC
but anything is better than Amazon.

Re: [GTALUG] small laptops (recommendation?)

Would one of the older 12" thinkpads from their X line fit the bill?
Someone else posted the link to the bauer systems spreadsheet that I usually
keep an eye on in another thread, they have a few good options.

Re: [GTALUG] Ubuntu Studio ver 22.04 Desktop (KDE) does not seem to allow for images spanning multiple screens

2022-08-18 Thread gs via talk
Unfortunately there isn't a way to do this built into kde.

There is a 3rd party solution at:

Re: [GTALUG] Ubuntu review on Distrowatch

2022-05-03 Thread gs via talk
If you're a gamer with relatively new hardware, I think it would be beneficial
to be on a distro closer to the bleeding edge to take advantage of the
performance improvements that come with newer drivers and kernels even at the
cost of potential instability.

That's the main reason I'm on an arch-based distro but since he said he'd
rather not go down that path, Fedora seems like the next best choice. The
proton-ge dev uses Fedora as his main platform and has several Fedora-specific
fixes.

Re: [GTALUG] Ubuntu review on Distrowatch

2022-05-02 Thread gs via talk
I think Fedora is on its way to becoming the replacement for Ubuntu as the
default recommended desktop distro based on the opinions of various linux
podcasts, youtubers and linux reddit communities.

I'm happy with Manjaro but if I were choosing a new distro to move to, it would
be Fedora.

Re: [GTALUG] Do people have opinions about the Framework modular laptop

I've had my eye on it since the reviewers first got their hands on it. So far
the reception has been overwhelmingly positive but finding opinions you can
trust can be difficult. I tend to trust Cory, Leo and Linus.
