Hey guys, OK, well i got office 365, and am a little discouraged. Does this program really take that long to install? It gave me asetup file, i ran it, and went out for 8 hours. I have a window here that says microsoft office minimize button. When i tab around it says nothing. When i hit the mouse keys it goes ding ding ding ding, ding, ding, ding. When i do insert s 1 of my options it says is microsoft office is installing, click here for status. I do a tab to the single left mouse button and depress the enter key, nothing, then do the same here for the right mouse. How do i click here for status? I didn't think it should take this long. Should i reboot and start over? ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. FW: [win10] Please help circulate throughout the blindness community: An open letter to Microsoft and others concerning universal app accessibility
From: Joseph Lee [mailto:joseph.lee22...@gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, 29 October 2015 4:21 PM To: wi...@groups.io Subject: [win10] Please help circulate throughout the blindness community: An open letter to Microsoft and others concerning universal app accessibility Hi, Below is the text of an open letter written by yours truly concerning accessibility of universal app ecosystem. Please help me in circulating this letter to members of the blindness community, as question of accessibility of such apps for screen reader users will become important as years go by and hope to start a dialogue regarding this important matter. Thank you. An open letter to Microsoft and Windows 10 universal app developers and users concerning accessibility of universal apps To leaders at Microsoft specializing in accessibility, customer and developer relations, Windows 10, universal app architecture and ecosystem and others, fellow developers of screen readers, Win32, WinRT and universal apps, users of Windows 10, screen readers, Windows 10 observers including Paul Thurrott, Mary Jo Folley and others: My name is Joseph S. Lee, a blind college student from Los Angeles, a translation and code contributor to an open-source screen reader for Microsoft Windows and one of millions of blind and visually impaired users of Microsoft Windows operating system. First, a sincere thanks goes to Microsoft for your continued commitment to accessibility and starting a new era of Windows through release of Windows 10 in July 2015. Thanks also goes to millions of app developers for Microsoft Windows operating system for making your apps accessible for blind people, providing opportunities for blind users of your software to be productive in their workplace and use your apps in unexpected places. One of the promises of Windows 10 is universality. although Windows 10 has opened up many possibilities for unification between devices, software ecosystem and so on, there is one major issue that many in the Windows 10 culture may have not grasped or just beginning to grasp: accessibility of universal apps, or as I see it, lack of such accessibility for people with disabilities, specifically blind and visually impaired users using screen readers. By writing this open letter to the parties addressed above, I hope to start a dialogue or perhaps let the general public know the impact that lack of accessibility of universal app platform could have on lives of millions of current and potential users of Windows 10, and in extension, universal apps from Windows store. According to a recent fact sheet from World Health Organization (WHO), as of August 2014, there are about 285 million blind people around the world, with nine out of ten blind people living in low income regions (footnote 1). Even in developed nations such as United States, South Korea (where I'm originally from), parts of Europe and others, many blind and visually impaired users are classified as poor or low income, or in some cases, unemployed. Because of this, coupled with trends in computing and other factors, blind and visually impaired people are some of the most affected by information blackout, considering that access to information has become a must in 21st century. One route taken by blind people to gain access to information is through a computer and a piece of software called a screen reader. A screen reader is a program that identifies what is on screen and presents this information to users via speech or braille. Technically, recent trends in screen reader ecosystem has focused on understanding and tracking events fired by various controls using a specific accessibility layer such as Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA) or UI Automation (UIA), and it has become a requirement for screen readers to include support for accessibility API's from the beginning. A good example of mechanics of a screen reader is when toasts appear in Windows 10 (sometimes called Action Center notifications). When such notifications appear, the screen reader will gather necessary information about the toast (knowing that it was a UIA object firing an "alert" event) which has just fired an event. Once the screen reader gathers this information (which includes text of the notification), it will speak the notification so the user would be informed as to which app has fired this event and press Windows+V to go to and interact with the toast notification. Another common use case of screen reading is web browsing. Because web page presentation is hierarchical in nature, screen reader vendors had to implement a way to give screen reader users an experience similar to reading a document from top to bottom. One such screen reader uses code injection to obtain just the needed information from web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Edge and others, and will construct a "linear" representation of this web document (footnote 2). This gets interesting when the
Has Window-Eyes been updated so the mouse stops at the bottom of the screen?
Hi. Ever since Window-Eyes 9, I've had a problem reading information with the mouse. Specificly, if I moved the mouse to the bottom of the window, then hit the mouse down key, the mouse would go beyond this boundary, and read information that I don't think is visible to the screen. If the mouse was in this spot, and I tried to copy a file, WE would not work, and I'd have to hit the hot key to restart it. I was wondering if this issue has been fixed. Last time I checked, in Window-Eyes 9.2, the problem was still there, but I thought an update would solve the problem. I was using Window-Eyes in Windows 10, but due to other issues I had to revert back to Windows 8.1. Because of these issues with Window-Eyes, I've had to use a different screen reader. I'd be tempted to use WE 8.4, but I don't know how well it works with Outlook 2016. Any help would be appreciated on this. Re: laptops and window-eyes
Just be sure that it has a working num-pad so that you can control WindowEyes. Whether or not it's got separate keys, or uses the letters with a modifier key, to make the numpad work, it needs to do more than type numbers; otherwise, the WE controls to move the mouse pointer around to review the screen won't work. If you have to add an extra device that hangs off the laptop, it rather defeats the purpose of the convenience of a laptop. My Dell, which is about 3 or 4 years old now, has a full keyboard with it's own num-pad like a regular keyboard would have for a desktop computer. It's nice and easy to use. I got an HP before that didn't have the real num-pad, and I had to send it back. TTFN, Marilyn At 09:20 AM 10/30/2015, you wrote: Any suggestions for a laptop which works well with window-eyes? Quick question in IE navigation with Mouse with WE 9.2
I just got around to installing my WE 9.2 upgrade yesterday. On my work laptop, I am still using IE 8 until later in the year when I'll get IE 11. Having IE 8 was great in that I never lost mouse mavigation support, while the rest of you were using newer versions of IE. Now that I'm using WE 9.2, I noticed that, if I hover my pointer over links on webpages, they are typically reading as the full URL, not the link name. I've also heard "Java script" a lot when I hover over what I think may be buttons. I'm curious if this is the same experience for those of you on newer versions of IE and just the new way that mouse navigation interacts on webpages. Re: macrium reflect disk cloning
bad advice. useing a ssd for your backup drive would wear the drive out very fast because each cell, i guess there called can only be written to so many times before a hole is burned through the cell and can not be used again. the drive does move data out of a cell that is wearing out and marks them bad so they can not be used again. but eventually your drive space would shrink to the point that you would not have enough space for your backups. -Original Message- From: via Talk Sent: Friday, October 30, 2015 5:00 AM To: Josh K Cc: Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: macrium reflect disk cloning If you are already on windows 10, you might consider backing up and restoring the image to your ssd instead. Just for a friendly reminder - though you may already know all of this - be sure to turn off all disk defragmenting software you have, or any other excessive disk writing software. Search the net, if you want more info. SSD's are rather sensitive to writing cycles, and if you do not turn off things like defragmenters or wipers, your newly enjoyment could soon enough end in wreckage. Just wanted to remind you, since I managed to damage a brand new SSD in very short time, myself. RE: sounds volume
Hi, Try lowering the volume of dectalk. Alt-control-left arrow until you get to volume, then alt-control-down arrow. Eloquence is a slightly softer synthesizer than Eloquence.
