Re: Help Needed to Restore Sub-folders in a Folder to theDefaultLayout

2017-06-27 Thread peter Chin via Talk

Hello Tom,

Thanks for trying to help. I am facing two problems now.

1. I tried your suggestions but, unfortunately, I couldn't make any changes.
The check boxes remain checked and the unchecked boxes remain unchecked.

2. I am not quite sure exactly what I should uncheck to get rid of the
extraneous info. When I cursor up or down in my list view (which I like) I
hear things like "Group" or "a-h_ or "i-p". What is it that I should try to
uncheck?

Hope you have some other ideas for me to try. Thanks for being so patient.

Remember, if you press Alt_V and arrow down the list, you will be told which
item is checked. You must press the Enter key to check an item, and only one
item can be checked at a time. If you press O, only one of these items can
be checked at once, and you must press the Enter key to do so. If you press
Alt+V and then H, you can choose the details you wish displayed by arrowing
down the list and pressing the Spacebar to check as many as you like then
tab to the OK button and press Enter. I just remembered that one may be able
to make some adjustments on what is announced on the screen with the Windows
Enhanced app of Window-Eyes. I haven't done this for a while, so I'm not
sure how much it can help, but I believe it did help me.

Hello List,

Thanks to all of you who have tried to help me. I got sighted help and
managed to sort out most of my problems. I no longer get unnecessary date
announcements. However, when I cursor around in the folder, I still get
announcements of group headings and I can find no way to silence them. When
I do alt-v+o I find I can't check or uncheck any of the items there. Anymore
suggestions, please?

Try hitting Alt-V and then the letter O. You should be able to make
additional changes there. I do this for Windows 7.

Thanks for your reply. I had already tried to do what you suggested but I
found that I couldn't check or uncheck any of the menu items. By the way,
the "None" item was already checked as well as the "Date Created" and the
"Date modified" but I couldn't make any changes. Any other suggestions,

Hi, Peter.

It sounds like your user folders are grouped by date. While in that folder
view, press Alt-V for view and down arrow to the group by menu option. Press
enter and a sub menu should open, giving you options like name, date, size,
and maybe some other options. I'll bet the date option is checked. All you
have to do is keep down arrowing to the none option and press Enter.

That should straighten things out.

Hello List,

I tried to send this message to the list but it didn't appear to have
reached it so I am sending it again.

I would like some help from anyone who is still using Windows 8.1 and
Window-Eyes.
I was fooling around in one of my folders in my User folder and somehow I

changed the way the subfolders are readout by my Window-Eyes 9.5.4. I have

managed to get the supfolders back into list view as I like it but now

Window-Eyes reads extraneous info such as "earlier this year" or "Last

week". How do I stop W-E from reading that info?

I am using Windows 8.1 with the free version of W-E.

 Help would be much appreciated.

Re: Reenabling the Thunderbird App

2017-06-27 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
I haven't used the TB app in ages. But if I remember correctly, when
using the app the set files are not supposed to be associated. They are
loaded by the app. So if you associate them they will be loading twice.
If the app is shown in the App manager when TB is open it should be
working correctly. And if the set files are in the Window-Eyes control
panel title bar when in TB but not associated they're still loaded.

Regards,
Tom

Re: Getting keyboard settings to stick once and for all

2017-06-27 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk

Jeff

,

Thanks for your kind advice, it is really appreciated, but you wont
believe this

.
About a year and a half ago, I was having this same problem, and at the
time, I discovered that it seemed to go haywire whenever I switched from
any app back to Winamp. When I say app, I'm talking about the more
modern use of the word, for programs, rather than WE scripts. It just so
happened that the author of the Winamp script/app placed a line
directing the turning off of the keyboard voice. I don't have any idea
why this should be the case, but nevertheless he did.

About a year and a half ago, as I mentioned above, Rod Hutton offered to
try figuring this out by checking out the script, and that is where he
discovered the offending line. He corrected it for our purposes, and
after installing the script, everything began to work like a charm.

As I was telling Rod, I can't believe I had forgotten that issue, and
yet, I think I came ever so close to remembering this at about 3:00 this
morning, but didn't totally put it together. Either too early, or
getting too old or something I guess .

Anyway, those solutions should definitely work under normal conditions,
but when the issue comes from a totally unsuspected source the way it
did, only luck and a bit of genius can get to the bottom of something
like this I'm afraid.

But sincerely, thanks for your efforts, they were definitely appreciated.

Take care,

Larry

It should not be necessary to do this more than once, but I found it

Jeff, Sorry about the rather delayed response.

As for the layout, I am using the default. The only setting I am
interested in making on a global level is the speak characters setting,
and this setting will not stick, no matter how I go about saving it.

I know that I succeeded, all be it with a little help back when I
started using this PC, but after the hard drive crash, it has been, so
far at least, absolutely impossible to save this setting.

I have saved all three ways, namely, ctrl+s, by tabbing to the option in
the settings dialog box, and using the save option in the file menu, all
to no avail.

Now here goes my paranoia, hopefully there isn't possibly some sabotage
by the powers that be in order to make the Office version just that much
tougher to use over time. In other words, an attempt at acceleration of
the inevitable . OK, I think I'm kidding, but anything is
possible online these days.

But anyway, if you or anybody else can help with this little yet big
annoyance, it would really be very much appreciated.

I find with Jaws it does not always read the progress status all the time.
We was very spoilt with window eyes that just did it for us.

Thank you Net bat for the info. I went into the jaws control panel but was
unable to get the progress indicator to work. It is set to give progress
every 5 seconds. Even though it is set to do so it won't work.
Never had this problem with win-eyes. Thanks Rick

RE: Progress indicator still does not work!

2017-06-27 Thread Dennis Long via Talk
NVDA is no where close to jaws in my opinion.

So if you don't use a screen reader for work how stable is NVDA for
general internet and e-mail use? Because I don't receive a lot of e-mails,
I don't share with the list many of the issues most of you seem to have (ie
multiple folders and address b.ooks). I use Thunderbird - and IE & Firefox
for web browsing. I am planning on downloading (and
learning) Windows-10 before trying to learn another screen reader.
