RE: Is it trure that window eyes won't work with windows 10 1803?
If Window-Eyes finally dies with the release of the next Windows10 update, that could put the final nails in the casket for me. I'll have to lick my wounds and find ways to dry my free flowing tears. That aside, I better work a bit more quickly on mastering my Android tablet; the nails in the casket will just about do it for me with Windows and its associated screen readers. No, no Windows10 for me; no, I didn't take the offer to migrate to Jaws even though I can use Jaws. And, no, NVDA WILL NOT cut it for what I have to do particularly with respect to gainful employment. Farewell! Back to the sidelines I go, peeping out of my pidgin holes and watching the goings-on! RE: Talk Digest, Vol 1069, Issue 2
Afternoon All, I was a WindowEyes user before We, when it' predecessor was VocalEyes. I miss WE and the team who created it and the super support staff. My keychain has a GW Micro fob on it and it always will. Though everyone has to make their own decisions about their screen reader, can I suggest that folks with concerns about Windows 10 or about the direction that many browsers are headed, do a bit of preventative self-care. I have access to both JAWS and NVDA and switch back and forth to keep up my skills so I can teach both. NVDA and its community of users is remarkable. No, it is not just the same as WE, but things are close enough in the general use that transition is quite easy. The suggested support cost when you download is $30.00. however, that is not required to download and use the program for as long as you want. The documentation which is free on the development web site, will give you a good start. Don't assume that the synthesizer you hear when you first run NVDA is the only option. This is another good reason to read up before you start. The support comes largely from other users but developers monitor the list to help out with the tuff problems. True, there is no phone support but in the last six months I have not felt that loss. So if you install and practice now, when the day comes that WE no longer work, you will have a good fallback to keep you going. No, this note was not paid for by NVDA but check it out at: NVDA is developed by NV Access in collaboration with the community. Another issue concerning the functioning of WE
While I am naturally concerned about the overall functionality of WE with the coming upgrade, I have one that I hope doesn't actually effect certain people like myself. As it stands, I am using WE for Office, and for some reason, it so happens that every time I go through one of these upgrades, WE goes into demo mode, making it necessary for me to revalidate WE. The problem for me this time, I'm afraid, is that I have at last run out of new validations, and need to know what I can do to have them restored. I was under the impression from the beginning that it wasn't necessary to have any more validation for WEFO other than to have a version starting with Office 2010 and above. So, what gives here. I downloaded another copy a couple of weeks ago in the hopes that if I were to uninstall, then reinstall WEFO, then my problem would be solved, but I'm really not at all sure that that would actually do the trick. Does anyone have any better ideas, or maybe someone can tell me how to prevent WEFO from going into demo mode in the first place. I haven't heard of any other users of WEFO having this particular issue, so have no idea as to how to prevent this from happening. Any suggestions would definitely be appreciated, Larry ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared.
