RE: Window Eyes, "Windows 10 and Quicken Deluxe 2016

2016-01-19 Thread Les Kriegler via Talk
How well does Quicken 2016 work with Window-Eyes? If you are using it, what
tasks are you able to perform successfully? Intuit has a deplorable
reputationfor accessibility with any screen reader, andI'd be surprised if
2016 was any different.

Strange problem running Windows 10, Quicken Deluxe 2016 and Window Eyes.
Quicken will not open if WE is running. Close Window Eyes and Quicken will
open. Then open WE and they work together. Or,if WE and ZT are both running
Quicken will open. This is happening on two computers. Has anyone else
experienced this? I have reported this to WE support.

RE: WE on a Microsoft Surface

2015-12-19 Thread Les Kriegler via Talk
Okay, I'll try and answer all of your questions; let me know if I forget
anything. I purchased my Surface a little over a year ago, so you'll have
to check current prices. I have a Surface Pro Three, intel I7 processor, 8
GB RAM and a 250 GB SSD drive now running Windows 10.
It does not come with a keyboard, but you can purchase a keyboard cover;
last I knew, that was $129. I use the Lobgitech k810 which is a Bluetooth
keyboard. The keys are spaced nicely and it's easy to type on. I did buy
the keyboard cover and have used it when I need to charge the other
keyboard, or if for some reason, I don't get response from the keyboard
which is rare.
There is one USB port, but you can get a USB hub to expand available ports.
Depending on what system you get, you will likely spend anywhere from $500
to $2000 which is the absolute top of the line system. I think that covers
everything.

WE runs fine on my Surface. While it doesn't have the ports you get on
traditional laptops or desktops, software applications run fine. Of course,
it helps to have enough memory and processor speed. I run Office 2013 on my
Surface, and it runs quite quickly and effectively under Windows 10 with 8

1. Using the Start Menu in Windows 10

5. What is a Window-Eyes app?

Quicken is just a personal finance software and not an accounting package.
So recommend quickbooks. But if you can also take a look at peachtree and

Hi Les,
One way of determining whether a quiet machine has shut down is to press
the open button on the CD drive. The door will only open if the machine
is running. This technique can also be useful if there is a lot of
background noise.

Windows 10 Sounds

2015-10-25 Thread Les Kriegler via Talk
Hi,

I just installed Windows 10. When I shut down the computer, I used to hear
a sound from Windows indicating the system was shutting down. I went into
the Sounds aplet and couldn't locate a specific sound for shut down, only
for closing a program. Does such a sound exist and if so, where is it?
Thanks.

Charlie,
Office 365 is a subscription service. Until last Tuesday you could install
the Office 2013 client and use Window-eyes with it.
Now you can use the Office 2016 client.
So in short, you would have received the same experience with 365 as you had
with the Office 2013 client as it is the same thing.

Perhaps when you had your 365 subscription you didn't install the client.

WindowEyes and Windows 10 Tutorial

2015-08-01 Thread Les Kriegler via Talk
Would someone please post the link to the tutorial on Window-Eyes and
Windows 10? Thanks.

Les
Subject: RE: downloading windows 10

Pam,

That is correct. If you have Window-Eyes 9.2 installed prior to running the
Windows 10 upgrade, then Window-Eyes will be available once the upgrade
completes. If you are updating from Windows 7 you will need to re-apply the
9.2 upgrade after Windows 10 is installed so that the correct video driver
is copied over. If using Windows 8 or newer then there isn't anything else
you need to do.

I hope this helps.

I think they said they are rolling it out little by little. Now, I'd like
to clarify something. Several days ago, people at AI squared said you can
start the upgrade to windows ten with window eyes running. Then, there will

be two things that won't speak, then window eyes will speak again. This
doesn't sound like you have to uninstall window eyes at all. So please,

So, how do you go about starting the update? I haven't got an e-mail
stating it's ready for me to install, and yes, I did reserve a copy back in
the days.

The icon says I'll be notified, in the system tray, but I see links like get

started, let's go, reboot now, continue, etc.

Is it just that they are rolling it out little by little, or by now, should
I have access to it?

If so, then someone needs to give me the exact steps to start it installing.
I know the whole thing about removing W E first, etc. That's no issue. I
have NVDA as a backup, as well as jaws, so it's not the end of the world for

me. Plus, there's always Narrator, so I'm not in a pickle.

I'm quite savvy with my technology, so if you can just give me the steps, I
know beyond a doubt I can figure it out.

Chris.

Hello All

I'm sorry I got the key combination wrong. You press the FN key (which is
second in from the bottom left) with the right control key. It's a bit
tricky to get but it does work.

hmmm, that must be something incoded in to his keyboard because right
alt+right ctrl doesn't do anything here on my system. shift plus f10
has always worked though.

Hi Chris,

I use the Logitech Bluetooth k810 and really love the keyboard. However,
it
doesn't have an applications key.

I find newer Logitech keyboards do not have an applications key.
The last couple of Microsoft keyboards I purchased have both a numlock and
an applications key.
Can't speak on any other brand keyboards.

Same thing here:
My new Dell came with a keyboard but it did not have a num lock key, I
purchassed another and it came without an Applications Key.
I finally Purchassed a third keyboard that has both but the fellow at Best
Buy had a hard time finding one with both the num lock and applications
keys.
My guess is software should be designed around this newkeyboard layout
senario since I don't know if it is possible to influence the hardware
manufactures to comply with an individual software product in lieu of 99.99
percent of their base client requirements.
That or perhaps AI Squared could sell a compatible keyboard and even make a
buck for coffee.
I don't know the best solution but it seems the large manufacturers are
getting away from the applications key and the num lock keys.
By the way, the girl from Dell had no clue as to what I ment when I called
them about getting a keyboard with both and sent me to a webPage where
keyboards were detailed but even there I couldn't figure out which ones
came
with what I needed to work with WindowEyes and that is why I ended up over
at Best Buy and their sales person also had a hard time finding one but, at
least, he did find one, at least for now.
It is quite frustrating to drop hundreds for a computer only to find out
you
need to hard scrounge additional hardware if you want to use WindowEyes and
there was not anything on the WindowEyes site as to which keyboards were
compatible with their software - at least I didn't find anything at the
time.
I guess in some cases a modified f10 key will work in place of the
Applications Key but as far as I know no num lock key can be a killer me
thinks.

Note I want to take the time here to bring up a useful tool. If you are use
to office 2003 or earlier or if you would just rather use a menu system
check out a plug in for office called classic menu for office. You can just
press alt+q twice and get a full menu system. The only difference is the
whole menu system is a vertical menu no horizontal menus.

Hi,
Thanks to all those who answered my enquiry on how to navigate the Office
2013 ribbon.

Before purchasing the programme, I shall use the info provided and practice
on the W7 Wordpad ribbon. No doubt the menu items will be a little
different but the concepts should be similar.

Cheers
Neville.

WE and Quicken Deluxe 2015

2015-03-20 Thread Les Kriegler via Talk
Hi,

I just purchased Quicken 2015 Deluxe and am trying it out with WE 9.1. In
the Check Register, when I tab from field to field, WE reports the existence
of edit fields and reads the contents of some of the fields in existing
transactions, but not all of them. I can memorize the order of the fields
if necessary, but I'm wondering if thewre is a way to get WE to read the
field labels as I tab through them? Anyone using Quicken who may have
other suggestions for maximum access? Thanks.

Les
