you probably have lots of answers by now, though since this is what I
do, I'll outline it for you.

Find the first file you wish to delete, hold down the control key, go to
the next file you wish to delete, press space bar, go to the next file
you wish to delete, tap the space bar, (remember during all this the
control key is held down), and so forth until you have hit space bar on
all the files you wish to remove.

Now, after letting up on control, hit delete.

If you wish to truly delete all those files and don't wish them in
recycle bin, hit control delete.

You should get a prompt which is a wee bit different than "moving to
recycle bin." :)

Hope this helps, though late. Was on a cruise and still catching up on mail.

A silly stuff with Jaws: Routing the mouse to the PC works haphazardly for
the most part. Sometimes, for better results, routing PC to Jaws "somewhat
works" better. Anyhow, here are the keystrokes:

1. Route Jaws to PC; Insert+dash using the Numpad keys. The "dash" is the
top-right key on the Numpad.

2. Routing PC to Jaws: Insert-Plus; theat's the "plus" key on the Numpad.
It is below the "dash" key and is larger in size.

Of course, for of these to work, the NumLock MUST BE turned off.

I still hate Jaws and its silly keystrokes such as Insert-Alt-M for example.
I prefer Window-Eyes forever, but, I am working ever so farther away from
Windows and more deeply into the Android world. My goal, to toss Windows
Anything down the drain soon enough! A showstopper presently is NOT BEING
ABLE to GENERATE ASCII characters using the keyboard with my Android toys.
There are at least two other issues, but I'll leave it at the one cited
herein.

As another responder told you, Vinux is no longer being developed. If you
are a total beginner I suggest you look at "Slint" which is a branch of
Slackware Linux and is very accessible with a screen reader. Do a Google
search for the download which is about a 4 plus gigabyte download but a very
all inclusive installation and easy to install. The maintainer of "Slint" is
a very helpful person and I understand there is a very helpful user mail
list. But, as I said earlier, the Orca screen reader is not as far advanced
as WindowEyes was in Windows. If you like tinkering then you will like
Linux.

I have a link for the Slint mail list but am not sure is it is correct.

Good luck.

Unless you change the modifier key to be CapsLock, the so-called JAWS key
is

the Insert key.
A few keystrokes to note, among the hundreds that are available:
Insert-1: have the keys announce their function instead of perform their
action.
Insert-T: Read title bar.
Insert-B: Read the current active window, like ctrl-shift-W in
Window-Eyes.

Insert-up-arrow: Read current line, like Insert-Center in Window-Eyes.
Insert-down-arrow: Read to end.
Insert-Tab: Get information about how you use the current contorl.
Insert-H: Some help for the currently-running program.
Insert-J: Open the JAWS control panel.
Insert-F4: Unload JAWS.
The numeric pad is not treated differently from the cursor keys and the
six-pack that are to the left of it.
Last spring Raoul Gallegos produced an 8-part podcast series about
transitioning from Window-Eyes to JAWS. Someone else can tell you what the
current URL is. Copy the files to your NLS talking book player and start
interacting with JAWS. It may not all make sense, but eventually you will
be

productive.

In the folder there is a Jaws folder and there you will find a folder

I think it is better to use nvda when copying it on the new computer so

Hello again! Another question.
If insert-f4 unloads Jaws so there is no voice, how can I get the voice to
speak again? In W-E it was so easy to bring the voice back. Thanks in

Unless you change the modifier key to be CapsLock, the so-called JAWS key is
the Insert key.
A few keystrokes to note, among the hundreds that are available:
Insert-1: have the keys announce their function instead of perform their
action.
Insert-T: Read title bar.
Insert-B: Read the current active window, like ctrl-shift-W in Window-Eyes.
It may not all make sense, but eventually you will be
productive.

question. My booklets talk about the Jaws key but don't tell me what it is.
Also, is there a keystroke for reading a document top to bottom? It was
necessary for me to give up my dear window-eyes which was the only screen
reader I ever used. I am using windows 10 and Jaws is 17 plus. Quite a
challenge. Thanks in advance.

hi,
i am using window eyes latest, last year version before it shut down,
with focus 14 braille display. i am not the newest focus so it works
with window eyes, but when i look at the braille options under hotkeys
i think, it listed all hotkeys for this model of braille display such
as down arrow, up arrow, tab, shift tab and so on. i cannot find the
key command for me to press lets say alt+f on the braille keyboard.
not just alt f, i mean, is there any way for me to set the hotkey or
something for system keys such as applications, ctrl, alt, windows
key, shift and so on?
i mean i can combine those keys to perfrom various keystrokes such as
if i want to press ctrl plus g on one application called goldwave to
bring up the go to time i think, so i can press the ctrl emmulator key
on my braille display, maybe dot 1 plus space bar or something, then
press g.
in other words, layer keystrokes in braille display. is it possible?

In my situation, W-E became useless for me. There were too many Windows 10

And, 400 keystrokes to boot to get a simple task done; here's an example of
such task:

With Window-Eyes, selecting a long passage or even a short one involves a
press of the F8 key. When the desired text has been selected, press F8
again and choose between copying the selected text with all formatting
retained, or simply copying to the Clipboard with Alt-C.

Now, let's do the same task using Jaws:

1. Start with a press of Control-Windows-K to set a place marker
2. Next, select all the text you wish to copy and pray that it selects
everything without a hitch
3. Now, with your preferred text selected, press Insert-Space, then M
4. One gets to know that the entire text has been selected
5. Now, press Control-C to Copy the selected text to the Clipboard.

'Ouch, why is a simple task so complicated? Ask Jaws and good luck if you
get an answer!

Sincerely,
Olusegun

I copied this from another list.Hi everyone,
Below is an update on screen reader compatibility notice and a schedule
of events regarding Version 1803:
A few weeks ago I sent out a preliminary notice regarding compatible
screen readers with Windows 10 Version 1803. The below notice replaces
the preliminary one and should be considered official compatibility
notice from this forum cluster:
Windows 10 Version 1803 compatible screen readers: any screen reader
supporting Version 1703 or later will work, although you may need to
install releases optimized for 1803. The following are known compatible
screen readers:
• Narrator : yes.
• NonVisual Desktop Access: 2018.1.1 or later.
• JAWS for Windows: 18.0.4350 or later, 2018.1802.78 or later.
• ZoomText: 11.5 or later.
• Any screen reader declaring support for Version 1703 (Creators Update)
or later (except Window-Eyes).
Note: Window-Eyes is no longer supported as a compatible screen reader
from this forum cluster as the product was discontinued.
Also, based on latest information available, the tentative schedule of
events regarding Version 1803 (on this forum cluster) is as follows:
• Around April 3, 2018 or whenever it happens: Version 1803 build will
be sent to release preview Insiders. From that day on, the entire forum
cluster will enter Version 1803 era.
• Around April 10, 2018: Version 1803 makes public debut.
• April 11, 2018 or at most 24 hours after public release: critical
standby begins. This is a 72-hour period where all activity on the Win10
forum will be suspended except for Version 1803 upgrade reports and
impressions. This is also the period when Microsoft staff and screen
reader vendor reps will get temporary moderator privileges so they can
pass on critical information for screen reader users (please show them
respect during that time).
• Between 1803 release date and 60 days after: countdown for Version
1709 is in effect. During this time cumulative update notices for both
1709 and 1803 will be sent to the forum cluster.
• June 30, 2018 or end of 60 day countdown, whichever happens earlier:
cumulative update announcements for 1709 will cease. The next KB alert
for 1709 will be on April 2019 once it exits consumer support.
• December 2018: cumulative update for 1803 will cease.
• October 2019: last KB alert for 1803 as it exits consumer support.
The above schedule is subject to change – depends on when Version 1803
will hit the air.
Cheers,
Joseph

virus is giving the most bang for your buck these days and working well with

question about window-eyes

2018-02-19 Thread Norene Trappa via Talk
I am using the latest version of window-eyes, windows 10, and text cloner pro
for the OCR program. Window-eyes talks to itself whenever I’m away from the
computer. It might speak the date, time, or it will grab the subject line from
other e-mails. At times it will stop speaking in the middle of an e-mail and
it is necessary to start over again. I use wifi which is in the apartment
building. Any ideas as to what’s going on? Thanks.

Yes. I got a couple stands. One is a little tripod with a spring loaded
slide clamp to hold the phone. The other is a laminated cardboard box
that was originally designed for folks needing to scan documents while
traveling on business. It folds up flat and when you expand it magnets
hold it together. So you sit the phone on top with the camera looking
through a peep whole and put what you want to scan in the box. There's
two models. One with a little set of LED lights inside and the other
without. It can use a battery or AC power. And it wasn't expensive. 29
or 39 bucks. something like that.
I can't remember the name of it. But I'll look around to see if I kept
any notes on it.
I don't use either much because I don't have the need to scan books or
long documents. But they work good.

Tom

Actually I seldom use the field of view report. It was fine when I first
got the app. But once I got used to reasonable placement of the phone
for the picture I stopped using it. Then again, I'm usually not using it
for critical reading where I need the absolute best. In that situation I
would use it. So it's not totally necessary. Just my opinion.

Ok here is how you use knfb reader this is just an example.
Imagine you are a student in college. You have some paper handouts that
you got from class that you cannot read, you also have a print textbook.
So how do you read it? First you unlock your android phone or your
iPhone. Then you go into the knnfb reader app. And then you hold the
phone a foot above the page. And then you press the field of view report
button first making sure you are pointing the camera on the bottom of the
phone down towards the page. Then you hit field of view report button you
double tap it on the phone’s touch screen. You hear your phone say
outloud with its screen reader:

All four corners of the page are visible.

Then holding the phone as steady as you can, you double tap the take
picture button. The phone snaps a photo of the page, does OCR on the
text, and reads the text out loud to you. And you can scan whole entire
books very very fast with just the 8mp camera on your smartphone.

And it's a fabulous OCR which is how it started. I have it on my iPhone
and can read just about anything imaginable. Think beyond a document
reader. I've read food boxes, cans, button labels and serial numbers on
gadgets, etc. It also works pretty good when you have to read your
computer screen or any other kind of display.
There's also a free one from Microsoft called seeing AI. It's useful but
doesn't compare to KNFB when it comes right down to it.

search and told them WE was going away, and I needed JAWS in the job search,
so my counselor was able to justify the expense. Now, I've just got to see
if they can get the registration in my name, as, right now, it's registered
to the Rehab agency, since that was what was on the P.O.

Now, I've got both on here, and can switch at will between Window-Eyes,
JAWS, NVDA or Narrator.

It's good to have choice, but, that is what choice is all about.

After all, NVDA isn't made by God. As I said, if you never use Jaws, you

free offer.

Hi:

Let's face it. The Window-eyes ship is sinking and VFO is offering
us a lifeboat, albeit for a limited time, so unless you want to go
down with the ship, or try to swim through the ocean, you'd better
grab a spot in one of the available lifeboats, (I.E. JAWS, NVDA, etc.
Not that i don't use Window-eyes myself, but I am using NVDA more and
more and when I get my JAWS license, I will probably use Window-eyes
less and less. She was a good ship, but she's gone now. Thanks to
that big iceberg, the VFO takeover.

To be clear, then, as Vic replied, use the Insert-arrows to navigate tables.
This is because there Is no need to go out of and into table mode in the
newest versions of Window-Eyes.

Yet, there is still the ability to navigate to them and within them.
Keep in mind, however, that for tables within Adobe Acrobat Reader, you must
still go into and out of tables, while internal navigation is identical.

Thank you for being a valued member of the GW Micro and Window-Eyes
family.
We regret to announce that sales of Window-Eyes have ended in the United
States and Canada. Users outside of the United States and Canada should
contact their local distributor for options. We are committed to our
customers and will honor existing product purchases and software
maintenance agreements, and we will continue to provide technical support
to end users that have purchased Window-Eyes or a support package.

All users who are currently using Window-Eyes can continue to use the
software indefinitely; however, as the Windows(r) operating system and/or
applications change over time, Window-Eyes may not function adequately for
your needs.

We understand how important a screen reader is to you and are offering
JAWS(r) for Windows 18 as a replacement. We are committed to providing a
smooth transition and will honor existing Window-Eyes product purchases
and software maintenance agreements (SMA), as follows.
. End users that paid for and are current with Window-Eyes 9.x will be
converted to JAWS 18 at no charge.
. If you are using an earlier version of Window-Eyes, you can purchase an
upgrade to JAWS 18.
. If you are using the free version of Window-Eyes you can continue to use
it. While there is not an upgrade path from the free version, if you are
interested in purchasing JAWS, please contact our sales team at
800-444-4443.
. Existing Window-Eyes SMAs will be rolled into the JAWS SMA program for
end users that migrate to JAWS.
Learn more about the migration options and pricing by visiting
http://www.gwmicro.com/window-eyes/migrate.

To make this process as easy as possible, we ask you to complete a simple
web form that will go directly to our sales team, who will then contact

information if necessary.

Requests for upgrades must be submitted at

Hi Everyone,

I hope this message finds you all well. As the subject says, I will be
leaving Ai Squared. After serving with this team for nearly 12 years, my
final day will be Friday, October 28. I have decided to take a job with
Interactive Accessibility. While I won't be part of Ai Squared any more, I
want you all to know that it has been an honor to serve our customers. I
plan to continue to stay active in the assistive technology community, and I
don't plan to be a stranger.

As one of my favorite Bible verses says, "In their hearts humans plan their
course, but the Lord establishes their steps" (Proverbs 16:9). I am looking
forward to the new challenges and people that God has in store for me.

Hi everyone,
It has been a pleasure and a privilege to be part of the Window-Eyes
community for the past 7 years. So, it is with a heavy heart that I share
this news. Today is my last day working for Ai Squared. I was made a job
offer that was too good to refuse. As much as I love my current job, this
was the best decision for my family. Next month, I will start my new job as
a Senior Accessibility Specialist for JP Morgan Chase. This position will
give me the opportunity to help Chase further their mission to build
inclusive digital experiences for all of their customers. If you would like
to stay in touch, feel free to follow me on Twitter. I don't tweet often,
but when I do, I usually distribute information on digital accessibility and
assistive technology. My handle is mr_marcsolomon. As a final thought,
please continue to educate others about the importance of accessibility and
do what you can to help make this world a better place.

Cheers,
Marc

I am retiring.

My career in the Assistive Technology industry started in the late 80's,
working for Computer Aids Corp. for a couple years, where I met Doug
Geoffray. Then I partnered with Doug to launch GW Micro in 1990 which
operated for 24 years, followed by our merging into Ai Squared in 2014. So
now, after almost 28 years in the AT industry, it's time for me to take a
break. I will be retired from Ai Squared after this week. No worries - the
rest of the Fort Wayne office and staff will continue as normal - whatever
normal means .

I'm not very active on this list but I look at many of the posts and I know
many of your names even if we rarely talk on the phone or meet in person. I
will continue to support Ai Squared and if the opportunity presents itself
who knows - I might come back for a few special projects from time to time.
Thank you very much for your support and friendship.

One thing I understand - this industry is very different from all others.
The people I know not only want to stay active, employed or stay in business
but they also want to make the world a better place by providing quality
products and services. You should all be proud of whatever contribution you
personally make.

Thank you all again for your friendship and loyalty over the many years.

Take care,

I will add "sound schemes," where windows offers many sounds which
can be used to clue you in as to what your computer is doing, e.g.
opening / closing any file, and I'm not talking about just the sound
schemes which Microsoft provides which are not complete in
themselves, but other sounds which windows provides events for, which
Microsoft does not have any default sound in the "names" schemes
directories under "media." You provide the sounds for the events, but
it is tricky setting up unless you've done it a hundred times as I
have, and so, depending on my mood for the day, I can use, for
example, the old "musica," scheme, or the "devenci," scheme, or "my
old friend," which I call it for most other times.
It would not be a hard tutorial to make, and have considered it
myself to help my friends who always ask me, but Mark it is a good
suggestion since window-eyes provides 6 events in it's own scheme,
which have to be integrated into all the schemes I have, or do create. :)

Hi,
Try upgrading to Adobe Reader DC.

Window-eyes 9.2 supports DC.

Two nights ago I wrote here that my Windows 7 system was stable with only an
occasional crash with IE 11. Just to make a liar out of me, my system locked
up pretty completely last night when I was loading a document into Adobe
Reader XI. Even if I restarted Window-Eyes, as indicated by the opening
sound, Eloquence wouldn't restart. I tried starting NvDA 2015-3 also, and
finally heard a few words out of NVDA as the system was closing down as part
of a restart.
I have set up sounds that give a high-pitched click when a process starts,
and a click an octave lower when a process closes. When the crash occured
during the loading of the PDF document, a process started, stopped after a
few seconds, and another or the same one started and stopped again. I really
don't know what ran. It could have been Security Essentials, but this
doesn't normally get in the way. There was no evidence that a new Windows
update had been installed. No Window-Eyes errors were generated.
After the restart, I was able to read the same PDF with the same program
without incident. Go figure.

Hello All:

One more 9.2 issue. I'm having problems reading what is on the desktop as I
arrow up, down, left and right. When I go to the desktop, Window-Eyes says
'No Selected Item'. When I arrow, I hear nothing. I've tried re-installing
the Windows Explorer set files with no luck. Any ideas? I'm running
Window-Eyes 9.2 on an HP Pavilion running Windows 8.1 with all updates.

Hi,
It seems that AVG is back to removing wecom.exe.
We are currently working with AVG to have them whitelist this file once
again.

I used to use AVG tune-up a while ago before it created more issues than it
solved.

Hello everyone, I have downloaded AVG tune-up, but I am having a problem
with it. Every time I start it, or when it starts automatically to analyse
something, Window-Eyes crashes, and I can't restart it. I can't even do
anything on the keyboard when this happens. The only way I can get it to
work is by shutting down Window-Eyes, starting Tune-up, and restarting
Window-Eyes. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Hi,

I have had much stopping on the computer here and there. There was a
shortcut on the desktop for IE, and when that was removed there has been no

Greetings

I am trying to keep track of situations and one that appears to be happening
about half the time is launching URLs from the Qube.

I press control+Windows Key+up or down arrow keys to read the tweets in my
home buffer. When there is a link to call up a web page I will press
control+Windows Key+B. Right now I have IE 11 set as my default browser.

Roughly half the time the dialogue Window-Eyes has stopped working will pop
up. This is after IE is launched. No error report is generated.

Hi,

I use the newest version of Window-Eyes, Windows 7, and IE 11. Speech has
stopped many times on this computer, everywhere and any time, and it was
frustrating. After deleting a shortcut for IE on the desktop, so far there
has been no problem. I hope it stays that way. SMILE!

Hi,

I always press enter twice after f8 asks if I want to use plain text to make
sure it gets to the clipboard, and it works well.

This is what works for me. When I use the F8 feature, I locate the
beginning of what I want to copy and using my left/right arrow keys make
sure I'm on the first caractor of the first sentense. and then use the
down-darrow keys to get to the end of what I want to copy and make sure I'm
at the end of the line. Then I'll go back and hit the F8 key again to copy
to the clipboard. I may be asked if I want to copy plane text or text with
formatting. I find when I don't use this method that I get poorer results.

So far, I have found the F8 method of copying something to be Hit and
Miss. Or I get a parchal copy of something, or I copy something I
never intended to copy.

I keep thinking it is me who is doing something incorrectly, but
since I seem to end up with questionable results more than even a
Bone Head like me should suffer, I have to start thinking something
is not quite right with the F8 method.

I am thinking it may have something to do with when the Web Site page
changes, because there is now an Ad that popped up, or some other
Animation has started moving around, just maybe this sort of Web
movement messes with the new method of copying text.

Just a guess on my part, since I am still not convinced I am always
using the feature as it was meant to be used.

Sometimes it works as it should and other times nothing even happens.
