RE: strange question

2016-03-18 Thread Roger Behm via Talk
Hi Linda,

If what I saw you are running windows 8.0, please take advantage of the free
windows 10 and do it as soon as possible.

I had windows 8.0 and upgraded for free to windows 8.1 which was an
improvement, but now I have upgraded to windows 10, since it is far better
than windows 8 or 8.1.

you will have mmuch fewer issues with windows 10.

windows 8 sucked big time!

When I turn on the computer and Window-Eyes announces itself, it says
something that sounds like "percepta drive tray window." What does this
mean?

HP Pavilion laptop, Windows 8, most recent version of WE.

RE: Get Window-Eyes 9.4 for the best Windows Experience

2016-03-08 Thread Roger Behm via Talk
Hi window-eyes users,

I had no problem in downloading and installing the 9.4 update through
Microsoft versionh of window-eyes.

In my retail version of window-eyes I just went to the gwmicro web page
entered my retail serial number and it generated my update and I downloaded
it to a usb thumb drive and then installed it on my different windows 7 pro,
8.1 pro, and 10 pro macjhines.

I'm not sure about that. It's worked on all the machines I've tested. Maybe
clear your temp files, reboot, and try again.

Thanks,

RE: Update Warning

2016-02-25 Thread Roger Behm via Talk
Hi Andy,

You are right, updating to windows 10 pro, which I would suggest only doing
if you must, can cost more in software not running under windows 10 or
peripherals not having drivers for windows 2010.

I am still using very successfully windows XP pro on four of my desktops,
keeping my AVG internet security up to date and using firefox when necessary
for browsing.

I love I like using outlook express and outlook 2003, which doesn't have all
the issues that windows live, thunderbird or other some what accessible
email clients are being used under windows 7 and higher.

I also have windows 7 pro on 5 other desktops in my home, with office
either 2010 or 2013, so I can see what works on windows 7 pro.

I also have 1 laptop with windows 8.1 and 1 laptop with windows 10 pro, so I
am up-to-date and can support my customers who are running those operating
systems and see what peripherals and software work under windows 7, 8, and
10.
I also received office 2016 from my wife's job for $10.00, but have not
installed it yet, since I don't see any advantage in using it right now, to
tell you the truth, I am still using very successfully office 2003 on my XP
machines with the patch that opens up office 2007 and higher file tuypes.

My thinking is, if it still works for what you want to do, why upgrade
unless your work place demands it or you like being a test monkey!

Eventually like all , you will be forced by Microsoft to be at windows 10,
but that is years away and for now windows XP pro and Windows 7 pro are
just great!

Regards,

Roger Behm

The main concern for me is that I have an older computer with older
peripherals. I'm sure my computer can run Windows 10, but I fear that there
may not be Windows 10 drivers for my peripherals, meaning that I will have
to spend money to replace them, so this isn't necessarily a painless or free

deal for me.

I just can't figure out why so many are afraid of Windows 10. You can
update to windows 10 for free until July 17 of this year. After that,
it will cost $100.00. Windows 10 is much faster and more secure that
Windows 7 and easier to use and faster than windows 8 and 8.1.

RE: Eudora to Thunderbird Conversion?

2015-12-21 Thread Roger Behm via Talk
HI Matt,

Becky is a very screen friendly email program, not to complicated and stores
your attachments in a separate folder like Eudora.

It costs I believe $40 for a license copy, but you can try it for 30 days
free to see if you like it.

It works on windows 7 and I would assume on windows 8.x and windows 10.

Hi, Matt,

The beauty of Eurdora, besides its elegant simplicity, is that
your attachments are in a folder that can be accessed
independently from Eurodora itself. All you have to do with that
folder is move it have of the Eudora folder itself.

RE: Latest Upgrade

2015-12-17 Thread Roger Behm via Talk
HI Folks,

I got my windows 7 computers updated this morning early around 5:30 am
central time and had no problems upgrading my licensed copies, except for
one desktop, which lost speech and I turned on NVDA and just re-started the
computer and starting upgrading again and things went just fine that time.

That is a good thing to have the free NVDA as a backup screen reader.

I did yesterday upgrade with no issues my free window-eyes copies on my
different windows 7, 8, and 10 computers.

MicroSoft has of course much bigger and better servers to be able to grab
the window-eyes 9.31 upgrade.

Just give it time, like Linda states in her email.

Hi all,

There is a lot of traffic on this list about upgrading to the latest
WE version. I tried again this morning, and lost the speech
completely. The download was stopped because WE stopped working, and
Windows was going to try to fix the problem.

I'm going to hold off until either the site is less busy or the bugs
are fixed, since so many here seem to be having problems.

I encourage you all to relax, and wait. I'm almost sorry I started
the thread, not thinking about the server being overloaded.

Blessings,

RE: Regarding CD

2015-12-17 Thread Roger Behm via Talk
HI folks,

here is what Aaron stated in his announcement about 9.31.

If you already own Window-Eyes 9.2, you will be able to download Window-Eyes
9.3 absolutely free! It will not count against your SMA. Window-Eyes 9.3
will be available for you to download, but SMA customers will not receive an
installation DVD. You may order a DVD by contacting Ai Squared.

AS we paid for the 9.2 of WE, should we get a CD?
I thought that each time a major upgrade was released, we got a CD.
