I am disappointed that industry insiders seemed unable or unwilling to investigate what has been going on. Such investigations are expensive, but the NFB used to be very good at exposing unethical and dishonest behaviour. Those occasional lifting the lids on bad agency practices were what made the Braille Monitor credible. Maybe such an investigation article is pending - they take time to research and prepare. There wil be tax records, and I guess that all companies have some public disclosure requirements. But professionals in areas of accounting and tax law would need to do the work, and it doesn't come cheap. Vaughan. I have had n.o issues with the latest WE on my Windows-8 machine. While no one should be have to upgrade, I can't help but wonder perhaps WE and a newer version of Windows would be more compatible. Dear Vaughan, anyone who has followed the history of Jaws would realize that its owners and developers have little compassion or concern for you and me. The disappointing factor for me is the way in which so many of those who developed and promoted WE have, as far as I can see, sold their souls for 30 pieces. The fact that none of these has had the guts to blow the whistle says much about the cultural decline which has occurred in GWMicro during the last 5-or-so years. They do not care about us, and they never will. Best regards, Robert On 1/29/2017 7:45 PM, Vaughan Dodd via Talk wrote: The latest Podcast from Blind Bargains discusses this topic. Re: Circling and Circling Round and Round
Dave, Thank you for your thoughtful email. As you will see from my signature I have moved much of my personal computing to the Apple platform. However, for my job I still use Windows and several of the screen readers/magnifiers on that platform. The evolution of computing for individuals continues and the support of Window Eyes is just part of a larger phenomenon, exemplified by cheaper adaptive solutions for the blind and vision-impaired. If Microsoft follows Apple and improves Narrator to the point where it competes favorably with the expensive screen readers we have used for the last 25 years or so, it won’t be just WE that fades away. The economic model of the thousand dollar screen reader will be untenable. Hi There! I certainly do agree that the negativity should end, and yes, I do understand that folks have the right to say and write what they wish, but try using some common sense when you do write. Until I here the official word from AiSquared that W.E. is no longer inproduction I will not believe Window-Eyes is dead. And yes, they are still selling the SMAs and that doesn't sound as though they are dead in any way shape or form. Have A Good 1! de .> SJW stands for social justice warrior. I do believe the negativity needs to end here, because it's not helping anyone. Until I hear further, Window-eyes, as a program at least, is still valid, it works well and in most cases, at least for my use case, does what it's supposed to. If a program receives a patch update, despite people's assertions that the program is "dead", that means in my book that the program is still in active development. I am a paying customer here just like anyone else. i purchased my copy of Window-eyes using the LTO program back in 2011, and if/when my SMA count comes up for renewal, i'll purchase an upgrade. People can certainly say what they want, if people want to think Window-eyes is dead it's on them. Has anyone looked in your about box for this latest version of Window-eyes?
