RE: Disgussion of problems with keyboards.
Hi, Again, F8 doesn't work when composing an email. You would use the standard shift-control-arrow keys. The F8 feature only works when browse mode is enabled. Browse mode is enabled in these situations: 1. When browsing the internet using Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome. 2. When reading an email in Outlook, Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail. Browse mode is not enabled when composing an email or replying to an email. A handy way to find out if Browse mode is enabled is to use the speak summary hot key, control-shift-s. If Browse mode is on, you'll hear page summary information such as the number of links, tables etc. If there are no such elements you'll hear no elements. with wlm you do not need to use f8. you can highlight copy and paste with the normal windows commands because browse mode is off. go to the beginning of the text and hold the shift key while arrowing down the screen to the last line you want to move. control x to cut to clipboard. arrow to where you want it to be and paste the text with control v. -Original Message- From: Dave Basden via Talk Sent: Wednesday, April 29, 2015 10:38 AM To: Pamela Dominguez ; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: Disgussion of problems with keyboards. This is true in any email composition window because none of them use browse mode. F8 is only used in browse mode which is only active when viewing messages and only if the email client supports it. Hi, This is correct. When you are writing an email, you are not in browse mode, the f8 key will not work. You'd use normal selection method. When reading an email you are in browse mode. RE: Disgussion of problems with keyboards.
I do not believe that the support person advocated that an external keyboard was a permanent solution, but only for assistance in trouble shooting your problem. There are many of us that have HP laptops that do not exhibit the problem that you are having. It would be nearly impossible for AI Squared to replicate your unique situation in their labs. Hence, I believe that they are asking for your assistance to help diagnose and fix your particular issue. Good evening all, As all of you know after reading a few messages about the problem that I’m having with my laptop computer , I’m still not able to use my keyboards laptop delete key, nor am I able to use my F8 key too begin the selection process. Perhaps I’m wrong too suggest this, but I think that there might be a conflict problem between the window eyes program, and keyboards on HP laptops. I did have a discussion with a tek support person about this issue. I first tried disabling the insert key layout, and then setting the keyboard too laptop key layout, and had no success with any of these suggestions. It was suggested, that I try hooking up an external keyboard to the laptop, and seeing if the two problems disappear. The thing here is, why should we be asked too do that when it means having to have to carry an extra peace of hardware just to be able too use a delete key, when there is a delete key that is already on a persons laptop computer.. This is something I believe, that needs to be looked into so that future problems like this don’t have too happen for those of us that use and want too use laptops. This is not meant too be interpreted as a chritizism towards the developers and programmers of windoweyes, but I think that this issue needs too be addressed. ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared.
