[Talk-us] Stillwater, OK build and address import

2016-02-10 Thread Mike Henson
Talk US,
I reached out a year ago to the City of Stillwater, OK asking about
official bicycle routes and seeing if I could have access to their building
outlines and address data. Last week, The City of Stillwater asked me to do
a presentation "introduction to OSM" for their bicycle/ped/ADA work. I
presented OSM to them and all seamed impressed with OSM. I asked the them
if I could get the building outlines and address information. Well, they
emailed me the shape files today.

I have opened the data in JOSM and it is looking good. I have NOT uploaded
any data yet. I also do not think an automated import is wise because I
have already mapped many buildings and addresses. I would rather do smaller
neighborhood imports with JOSM that I can manually check before uploading.
I also plan to start a wiki page for this information. I also am reaching
out to the import mailing list.

Re: [Talk-us] Someone please check Beaver Lake, AR

2015-11-06 Thread Mike Henson
Thank you for your input, I did add/move the Beaver Lake tags to the
multipolygon relation and removed the Beaver Lake tags from the "outer"
ways.

Is there a standard way to identify and remove ways that are duplicates

Examples I found in a Pennsylvania extract (just a few of many cases):

Thank you, I can once again upload change sets this morning. Last night
(about 11 hours ago) I logged into osm.org and revoked all Authorized
Applications.

I am sure about the editor issues but I have a suggestion for JOSM. I
wonder if what you are experiencing is garbage collection of the Java JVM.
Sometimes it helps to return to the JOSM session and be patient. I am
guessing that Java fights to regain some memory to work again.

One of the things that I have done to protect against the interruptions or
other failure issues is timed backups. Menu Edit Preferences Map
looking grid/Map Settings or the third button down. Click on the File
Backup tab. Click on the Auto save enable box and enter the seconds
between saves. I lowered my tolerance to 15 seconds. The laid on power
 strip button several times. ;-)

[Talk-us] Can not upload a change set‏

2014-11-16 Thread Mike Henson
Last night I was editing Stillwater, OK with JOSM and everything was
working great. I was uploading change sets with out issue. My wife
pulled me away from the computer for a while. I came back made some
edits and tried to upload them. JOSM timed out and locked up while
trying to upload the change. It was late, so I just turned of the
computer and went to bed. This morning, I can not upload any change
sets via OSMAND and Potlach 2. They just spin with out giving an
error. I tried other computers and other internet connections.

1) Am I the only one having this issue? If so can someone help me?
2) Is the OSM server down and I missed a email/note somewhere?
3) In the history tab on OSM I see other change sets with in the last hour.

Re: [Talk-us] New I.D Feature

wiki says to use abbreviated. see
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:addr:state#For_countries_using_hamlet.2C_subdistrict.2C_district.2C_province.2C_state

I almost had a panic attack because I use abbreviated state in all my
addresses.

 Any help would be appreciated.

[Talk-us] Bicycle Routes

2014-10-23 Thread Mike Henson
How can I tag unofficial bicycle routes in my community?
For example, the City of Stillwater has documented with actual signs on the
road these routes (http://stillwater.org/document_center/Bike_Routes.pdf)
I have tagged these as lcn=yes and named them all Stillwater Bicycle
Routes in a relation.

There is a bicycle club that has created other routes that do not have
actual signage on the roads. see http://www.reddirtpedalers.org/local-routes
For Club routes, I could tag them as reddirtpedalers routes (i.e.
Reddirtpedalers Couch Park Loop)
http://www.reddirtpedalers.org/local-routes/13-couch-park-loop

For the Club routes:
Should I use lcn=proposed? (this is not valid, because they are not being
proposed and most of them are outside city limits. the county does not have
any routes)
Should I use lcn=unofficial?
Should I use lcn=club?
Should the name include unofficial OR bicycle = undesignated?

Also, using Stava data, I can see other used roads that are not bicycle
routes, but they are widely used. see
http://labs.strava.com/routing-errors/#250/13/-97.06824/36.12651
Lakeview Road north west of Stillwater going out to Lake McMurtry is a nice
blacktop road without a lot of traffic, If I was riding a bicycle, I would
use this road.
Should I tag these commonly used bicycle routes?

I assume official = signage on the road.
