Re: [OSM-talk] [Fwd: Re: Coordination for Haiti Mapping]
I agree with Jean-Guilhem (osm-haiti). At the field level its important that the international community doesnt forget Haiti after the emergency period. Its the same at OSM level : its important to maintain the effort. A great job has been done within a few day. More job is needed to perfect it and, most of all, explain and help field actors to use OSM data. I think that it would be nice that Haiti rebuilding effort be supported by a osm-haiti. Which should not prevent an osm-crisis to be created as well, as a framework for future crisis, and an open complement to CrisisMappers. Hi, Jean-Guilhem Cailton wrote: > Note to administrator : would it be possible to raise the size limit for > this crisis situation? Maybe it is also prudent to recognise that while there is a crisis in Haiti, there is mapping as usual in many other regions of the world - some of it in regions that might become the next victim of a natural disaster. While most of us want to help where we can, OSM as a whole must not grind to a halt because there is a crisis in Haiti. There are tens of thousands of active OSMers around the world, and 400 of them are active in Haiti. Every Haiti message on this mailing list reaches a very high number of people who are not interested, and it is their right to be not interested - they are doing good work elsewhere. I think it is time for an osm-haiti mailing list - or if every OSMer helping in Haiti is already on crisismappers, then that's ok too, we can then simply stop crossposting and forwarding everything here. Note to administrator : would it be possible to raise the size limit for this crisis situation ? If there is any more up-to-date needs for mapping than the general requests on the wiki; 2.) If there are any plans to develop a more comprehensive ticketing system than what is suggested on the wiki (essentially monitoring CrisisMappers); and 3.) What is the best way to avoid duplicating efforts? I am aware of two other groups that may be mapping this weekend and would like to find a way to coordinate among groups.
