That said, what I really find annoying is that there's no way to get to

on the iPhone it is working well (including changing map background,
what didn't work in the Openlayers version), but you are caught inside
the mobile view, you can't change to classic view, and in the mobile
version there is no search box to look for streetnames or PoIs and
there a no links to further information.

In summary when on mobile there is
* no attribution
* no links to help, wiki, mapkey, community blogs etc.
* no search

Or they are very well hidden ;-)

I thought that given the title of this thread and the ongoing work on
the main page there was very high probability that the people doing
the redesign would read it here. You are right though that there
should be a ticket for this in trac as well, so here it is:

I'm not sure if Saman is on this list actually. I doubt he's paying much
attention to trac either, though he may see the tickets through the
rails-dev list.

This isn't really redesign anyway - all the things you mention are
features that have always been missing from the mobile view AFAIK.

Don't know either. I now sent him a copy via email (with the hint to
eventually ignore it). These issues have been introduced at some time
in the last year IIRR, because not so very long ago you received the
desktop version also on cell phones (which wasn't the optimum, but
hadn't the issues like missing attribution or missing search and
links).

The small screen view goes back much further than that - back to before
March 2010 for sure.

It's possible the side bar was visible until Nov 2011 but that's just
based on the changelog saying something about making the map fill the
screen as I didn't look at the code at all.

[OSM-talk] Is osm.org broken on mobile phones for you?

2013-01-22 Thread Pavel Melnikov
Hello everyone.
I've just noticed that osm.org stopped working correctly on Android's Opera
Mobile. I cannot pan the map with finger anymore (meaning I cannot pan it
at all), nor can I zoom in and out with double-tap and two-finger gesture.
It used to work perfectly some time ago, giving osm.org an advantage over
some competitor's maps, that weren't so mobile friendly.
Does anyone experience this? If yes, is it a bug in OpenLayers, or in osm?

Best wishes,
Pavel

Well it won't be OpenLayers as we don't use that anymore.

It would help to know exactly when it started failing - if it was last
Friday then it is an issue with Leaflet 0.5 and if it was a few days
before that then it is probably linked to Saman's redesign work.

Panning works on Dophin browser for Android, but the layout is messed up. I
saw Leaflets tweet yesterday about new zoom buttons. Maybe they are
changing the version.

It's leaflet not openlayers that is the mapping library, it might be related to
this bug https://github.com/Leaflet/Leaflet/issues/1182#issuecomment-12500553
that was mostly fixed in the new version of leaflet, if this map
http://www.mycoursewalk.com/mobile_course_walk/course_view/752 works for you,
then the it's osm.org's issue and they need to update leaflet, if that doesn't
work then it's a leaflet bug and it would be very much appreciated if you
opened an issue there.

We're already updated to leaflet 0.5 thanks.

Please don't encourage people to go reporting things upstream - they
should report problems where they find them and if our developers think
the problem is upstream they can pass it on.

In this case the problem appears to stem from the redesign, not leaflet.

On the default Browser on Android v4, I can pan the map and use pinch to
zoom.
The main problem is the the layer switcher and the zoom buttons are not
visible. It seems the buttons are still there, as they briefly appears
if I tap in the right place.

Also, it looks like some of the map tiles are not lined up correctly.

It seems to work fine in Firefox on Android.
