For a possible OSM-table: Who is willing to be there for a day? I'm willing to take on saturday or sunday but not both. We should also try to revive some or our promotional materials by then... Re: [OSM-talk-be] FOSDEM 2015
The only requierement is to be enthusiastic about OSM. Most people at FOSDEM already know about it and some like to come and tell about their experiences with it or to ask how to use it on a specific platform. There are some Germans who are interested in participating as well. This means they can bring a poster, which Frederik Ramm may provide. 3 years ago he created a map of Brussels. That would look totally different by now, thanks to the UrbIS import. I must say, last year I went to our corner and there was noone there, a few papers on the table. although I understand, everyone is busy. Me to... but it was still kind of disappointing. It was chaos nevertheless , I remember the sweat/rain flavored odor by having too many people in the same room. The amount of people just sitting there with the laptops(on their lap) on their knees was staggering, in that process taking up valuable walking space. If I were to create a plan to promote OSM, I would be standing at that outside entrance, handing out flyers and trying to make conversations. So, is this an OSM Belgium or a general OSM organisation? In the latter case, it might be better to organise stuff on the wiki or the forums, so others can follow without having to subscribe to the Belgian mailing list. The conference is aimed at developers, but maybe they want to do some mapping in between to relax a bit :-) The past years there was quite a bit of interest. OSM was present on FOSDEM for the past few years, but last year it was a one man show. It only makes sense to have a stand if we can man it with 3 persons all the time. Unfortunately I won't be able to be present full time myself. Hello, There is a joint proposal for a geospatial devroom (OSGeo, Locationtech and OSM people), we may want to wait if we have it or not (will be announced 1/10) before filing a request for a stand. You should actually also check with OSM france (Gael Musquet). AFAIK hey were planning to have a stand also. Last year was a bit embarrasing that we arrived and did not know there was an OSM-stand at all... nobody communicated anything to the belgian mappers. With much respect said, but the OSM-stand last year was not very good, maybe because Gael had to do everything by himself. If you ask me we should try and do things ourselves or at least collaborate very closely. FOSDEM is in Belgium after all... Also, OSM is not a tech project, we should promote our community at FOSDEM and not just software-tools.
