I thought of creating a multipolygon with the external border and this way as the internal border, is this the right way? The reason is exactly that, it's a way without a tag, e.g. you're not telling what it is. By the looks of this, it's mean as an area. So the very least it should have a area=yes tag on it to valdate. But what is it really ? What is this suppose to represent and why does it have to be a mulipolygon ? If I understand well this is the playground of a school, I thought of a multipolygon because I looked at how other buildings with a hole were mapped. But as I don't understand yet when to use a multipolygon I may be wrong! It is a big group of questions, I hope this is the right way to interact with the mailing list. It looks like the outside is drawn twice, of which the one sharing the walls with the houses seems to come from Urbis. Simple way: you may tag the interior with the same name of the school. Not sure about adding leisure=playground inside. Harder way: Relation:multipolygon with roles outer and inner for each wall. In that case, the tags are put in the relation and the walls can have no tags. Thank you, I didn't notice. Should I remove the import from urbis or the manual map, I presume the latter. Re: [OSM-talk-be] Some questions from a beginner
André suggested to use leisure=playground for the 'speelplaats' of a school. To me leisure=playground stands for speeltuin/plaine de jeux. The inside of a school where children play during their breaks is something else, unless it's open to the public to come and let their children play there all the time. Normally it should be enough to simply not tag it at all. If it's the inner part of a multipolygon, it already serves its purpose to make a 'hole' in the building. If you like you can add surface=paved, I guess. Re: [OSM-talk-be] AGIV
Re: [OSM-talk-be] AGIV
Rinse and repeat voor alle varianten. Dat soort dingen proberen te doen in Potlatch of ID is eigenlijk onbegonnen werk. Jo ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be

In ieder geval bedankt. And I can go to either solution for the playground, what is the preferred way? You should remove the manual map. It's less precise and it even crosses the Urbis houses. On 2013-10-18 09:05, Jo wrote : André suggested to use leisure=playground for the 'speelplaats' of a school. I agree but I found no better and it seemed obvious that it's private. A little more digging and I found that it should be landuse=recreation ground access=private surface=... To be checked, of course. I could have sent the school a cc: of this but you can't do that with a stupid SMS like contact form, can you. [OSM-talk] Deleting data
I've recently had two instances of people deleting data that I had entered. Their rationale? You only map what's on the ground. Their authority to do so? Armchair mapping. This is wrong, and it's got to stop. Nobody should be deleting data that somebody else entered unless they have actually BEEN to the place, failed to see any trace of the mapped entity, and are an expert at identifying the mapped entity. This should be the case no matter the entity: whether fire hydrants, buildings, intersections, park benches, railroads, canals, whatever. This, of course, has to be tempered against the TIGER data, which is flawed. So I think the rule of thumb should be: delete, but if somebody else reverts, then you have no authority to start an edit war unless you've been there and they haven't. Or if you have any doubt, send them a message via OSM: Can I delete this? Apparently some people object to seeing things in their editor which they can't see on the aerial photograph. I counsel tolerance, humility, and in the case of JOSM, liberal use of the Filter to hide data that bothers you (I almost always edit with border=administrative hidden. I don't see them on the ground, but I don't suggest that we should delete them). We need to make sure that the Wikipedia deletionism doesn't take hold within OSM. Because, if I have to spend time defending the data I've already entered, that will take away from my effort to enter new data. In case you think I'm blowing smoke out my butt (who the hell blows smoke out their butt??), I've entered about 90% of the lakes in NY that are there, and about 50% of the rivers and streams that I have looked for (so far). I've aligned the TIGER data in about 7 counties. It's a huge amount of work that nobody else is doing, and it would be a shame if I had to stop people from deleting what I've already done. I stand firm against deletionism! -- --my blog is athttp://blog.russnelson.com Crynwr supports open source software 521 Pleasant Valley Rd. | +1 315-600-8815 Potsdam, NY 13676-3213 | Sheepdog ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
Re: [talk-au] Park benches
Hi Arthur, the way amenities appear on the map depends on their location with other features too. Some items cannot be seen from a far distance, and sometimes you need to zoom in to see the items you added, however, not all items are displayed at the same time. Tony. [talk-au] Openstreetmap Quality Issues
There used to be a view that Openstreetmap could produce higher quality maps through local knowledge so we could eliminate the sort of comical routing errors that would have people driving into rivers. Unfortunately the culture seems to have become that any accurate local mapping should be replaced with unthinking tracing over the top of obsolete satellite imagery. Twice I have updated this intersection http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/-37.10566/144.33590 to reflect the major changes that happened after the freeway was completed. Twice those changes have been removed by mappers tracing over the top of the old satellite imagery. Oh well at least its the same as google maps now! regards Neil -- http://smap.com.au/ ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au

I did that after the first revert. However it didn't help :). I think it important to try to develop a culture that existing map data should not be changed unless you know you are improving it. If the map shows a road network that differs from the Satellite in a way that may be due to design then either you should contact the previous mapper before changing it or you should get on your bike and head out to the site to verify that the satellite imagery is in fact correct. [Talk-it] JOSM: risoluzione conflitti

Magari i contrari dell'anno scorso han cambiato idea... My 2 cents, Stefano ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

-- Elena ``of Valhalla'' ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Kevin Kofler ___ Talk-at mailing list Talk-at@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-at

Re: [Talk-at] Forum statt Mailingliste
